Adjacent Historic Train Shed Structure Hoboken Terminal and Rail Yards Phase I Redevelopment Plan 14 Understanding Community Concerns and Priorities Hoboken Terminal and Rail Yards Phase I Redevelopment Plan 15 Focus Group Feedback on NJ Transit Phase I Proposals Some of the Focus Group Concerns We Heard Urban Design • Concerns about planning process conducted in two stages (Phase I and Full site) • “Out of scale” development • Building Height – Concerns about taller building vs. mediummedium scale massing recommended in the Hoboken Master Plan • Concerns about building shadows on street • Not focused on pedestrians • Need to provide “open feeling” – entryway to the City • Need “Great architecture” • Retail on Hudson Place Parking and Transportation • Concerns about additional traffic and parking • Bus depot is not attractive • Concerns about pedestrian safety • Need better integration of pedestrian and bicycle modes Infrastructure and Sustainable Design • Concerns about capacity of city infrastructure to accommodate new development • Focus on Sustainable Design Are There Any Others That We Missed? Hoboken Terminal and Rail Yards Phase I Redevelopment Plan 16 Focus Groups Feedback on NJ Transit Phase I Proposals Potential Areas of Agreement Regarding NJ Transit Phase I Proposals Better Intermodal connections • Subway (PATH) + Heavy Rail + Light Rail + Bus + Ferry + Paratransit + Walking/Biking • Provide redundant interconnectivity and improved pedestrian and bicycle facilities • Rationalize bus terminal circulation and improve pedestrian connectivity from the platforms to connecting modes and surrounding areas Pedestrian/bicyclist Oriented Design • Implement a complete streets design • Encourage walking via wide sidewalks and generally improve the pedestrian experience • Create new bike lanes, bike storage/racks and shower facilities • Consider exclusive pedestrian pathways and bridges Shared Parking + Car Sharing • Shared parking between residential, retail and office components • Advocate a car share program throughout the development • Reduced minimum parking requirements Sustainable Building Design • LEED Buildings (LEED Gold proposed in Phase I). • Green Roofs Are There Any Others That We Missed?
