Spectacular Second Week! 8:11Pm by Rabbi D בס”ד Summer 2021 Issue #2 july 2, 2021 Parshas פנחס Spectacular Second Week! 8:11pm By Rabbi D. Yankelewitz Torah B’Simcha פנחס When The Torah tells the story of how Rav Moshe Feinstein asks, why did we have to the daughters of Tzelafchad came to Moshe compare their love of The Land to that of Yosef, Rabbeinu asking for a share in The Land, it was it not enough praise for them to say that they lists their lineage - who they came from, “The themselves loved The Land? daughters of Tzelafchad, the son of Cheyfer, Rav Moshe answers that it teaches us that what the son of Gil’ad, the son of Machir, the son of we learn to do from generations past through Menashe, from the families of Menashe the son our teachers is more valued than what we figure of Yosef.” Why was it necessary to list all their out ourselves. Therefore, we should gravitate lineage all the way to Yosef? Rashi tells us this to our teachers, Rebbis and Rabbonim for they teaches us that just as Yosef loved The Land (and pass on to us the closeness to Hashem and the asked to be buried there), so did these ‘daughters’. need to do Mitzvos. 2021 MENU JULY JUNE/JULY FIRSTNextSUMMER 2021 Week’s HALF monday tuesday wednesday thursday friDay 23 Franks/Buns 24 25 Bagels 718.868.2300 x 233 SC P French Bread Pizza Fries Tuna [email protected] Cole Slaw Salad Cream Cheese Pickles Fresh Fruit Sliced Tomatoes www.simchadaycamp.commonday tuesday wednesdayJello thursday WatermelonfriDay 28 29 30 Chicken Nuggets 1 2 Parve cholent 5 6 Grilled Cheese 7 8 Pizza10’S Bagels- 30’S 9 Baked Ziti RicePajAMa NO Israeli Salad Day Salad potato kugel Corn Cole Slaw CAMP Onion Rings Fries salad Pickles Chocolate Pudding Fresh Fruit Canned Pineapple50’S and up overnightJello watermelon 5 6 7 8 9 Mac N Cheese Burger/Buns French Bread Pizza Bagels Tomato Tuna NO Plain Mac Fries Pickles Cream Cheese CAMP Corn Salad Taters Sliced Tomatoes Canned Peaches Jello Fresh Fruit Watermelon 12 13 14 15 16 Parve cholent Baked Ziti Grilled Cheese Potato Knish Pizza Bagels Plain Ziti Israeli Salad Tuna Salad potato kugel Corn Onion Rings Salad Fries salad Chocolate Pudding Canned Fruit Mix Jello Fresh Fruit watermelon 19 Fish Sticks Spaghetti Corn Chocolate Pudding LIVE REPORT! Bang! What was that?! That was Week 2 of SDC flying by in all its glory! Homework, tests and report cards are a distant memory. Our pumped campers enjoyed the geshmak and fest week so much that they don’t even want to go home each night! We had to make late nights to keep all that pumping ruach going. More swimming, extra activities, and a delectable supper was consumed by the 20’s, 40’s, 50’s, and CIT’s. The 20’s went on an adventurous treasure hunt, scouring the campus for hidden clues. They even had a quadruple hamburger eating contest at dinner. The winner was disqualified when we found out that he hid half of his burger under his plate. The 40’s thrilling excursion to Launch had them jumping for joy. Flips, bounces, and tons of high flying excitement left them all popping up and down with smiles on their faces! Red day and hat day were a blast, with campers wearing the most unique or most red paraphernalia that they could scrounge up! The boys who were best decked out got to participate in Rabbi Hildy’s mishuga’as at lunch! From human battle ship to a crazy game of almost musical chairs to an original flip the dice to get to the next area of the room! It was bonkers! Who ever knew that eating could be so entertaining! And let’s not forget the nail biting Red string hunt in the MID’s! It had the whole division tied up in knots! Our super impressive SDC Sports Leagues began this week throughout camp, from the 20’s to the CIT’s. Trump is aiming for a chance at redemption and a first place finish. As long as Russia doesn’t fix the ballots, they have it in the bag. Each team has their own incredibly devoted Captains to help guide them and lead them to victory. The Senior Division teams love leagues so much that they have a second non baseball league as well. On Thursday, SDC’s world famous Carnival was back! The 40 foot slide was jammed with excited campers climbing the steep mountainous journey to the top and swooshing down to the bottom…. Only to be rocketed back into the air in grand style! The Bungee Trampolines were a huge hit as was the dodgeball pit and snow cone machines! We are all so super pumped about our upcoming 50’s - CIT’s amazing 2 day overnight! We will be reporting on the whole Six Flags experience, both the park and waterpark as well. We will fill you in on next week’s MID’s Adventureland bonanza as well. Don't forget that Green Day is on Tuesday! Looking forward to a Geshmakalicious week 3! Simcha Reporter Holey Vamoley!!!! The first full week of SDC 2021 is officially in the books. And what a week it was!! It has been so awesome seeing all the chevra who are back from last year, as well as all our new CIT's who have joined in for the fun. I'm really enjoying getting to know all of you-can't wait to get to know all of you better! Our leagues got started this week-it's been off the heezy. We got to witness a double overtime basketball thriller-literally one of the best ball games I have EVER seen!! Shout out to MoMo Hersh for hitting some wild 3's before eventually succumbing to Sholom Yovitz's team. We also had an incredible extra innings baseball game. Thank you to all the CIT's who helped out with the carnival. So very appreciated. Lastly, thank you to all the CIT's for being such a great group of guys! YOU are the ones who everyone in camp looks up to! Keep on being your rockin' selves! Have a great Shabbos!! The Way to the Tree of Life Jewish practice entails fulfilling many laws. Our diet is limited, our days to work are defined, and every aspect of life has governing directives. Is observance of all the laws easy? Is a perfectly righteous life close to our heart and near to our limbs? A righteous life seems to be an impossible goal! However, in the Torah, our great teacher Moshe, Moses, declared that perfect fulfillment of all religious law is very near and easy for each of us. Every word of the Torah rings true in every generation. Lesson one explores how the Tanya resolved these questions. It will shine a light on the infinite strength that is latent in each Jewish soul. When that unending holy desire emerges, observance becomes easy. Lesson One: The Infinite Strength of the Jewish Soul The title page of the Tanya states: A Collection of Teachings ספר PART ONE לקוטי אמרים חלק ראשון Titled הנקרא בשם The Book of the Beinonim ספר של בינונים Compiled from sacred books and Heavenly מלוקט מפי ספרים ומפי סופרים קדושי עליון נ״ע teachers, whose souls are in paradise; based מיוסד על פסוק כי קרוב אליך הדבר מאד בפיך ובלבבך לעשותו upon the verse, “For this matter is very near to לבאר היטב איך הוא קרוב מאד בדרך ארוכה וקצרה ”;you, it is in your mouth and heart to fulfill it בעזה״י and explaining clearly how, in both a long and short way, it is exceedingly near, with the aid of the Holy One, blessed be He. "1 of "393 The Way to the Tree of Life From the outset of his work therefore Rav Shneur Zalman made plain that the Tanya is a guide for those he called “beinonim.” Beinonim, derived from the Hebrew bein, which means “between,” are individuals who are in the middle, neither paragons of virtue, tzadikim, nor sinners, rishoim.

CONSUMER Daf HaKashrusEDITION A PUBLICATION OF OU KOSHER WWW.OUKOSHER.ORG ISSUE 15 | YOMIM NORAIM 5778 ALMOST KOSHER IS NOT REALLY KOSHER! Reprinted with permission from the OU’s Jewish Action Summer 2017 Edition, with slight Rabbi Eli Gersten modifications. The title of the original article was “What Could be Wrong With”? RC Recorder of OU Psak and Policy IS IT ACCEPTABLE TO EAT OUT AT A VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN-FRIENDLY INDIAN RESTAURANT IF THE HASHGACHAH (CERTIFYING RABBI OR AGENCY) IS UNRELIABLE? In some circles, it has become increasingly common, and even acceptable, to eat out at Indian restaurants that are vegetarian or vegan-friendly even though the hashgachah may be unreliable. The thinking goes something like this: Indian restaurants don’t serve meat or fish, and I can order foods that don’t contain dairy, so there is very little that can go wrong. Indian restaurants are “almost” kosher. So long as there is a rabbi vouching that it is kosher, though he might have lax standards, isn’t it good enough? This reminds me of the time I received a call from an out-of-town vaad ha’kashrus that was contemplating giving certification to a local Indian restaurant. The restaurant was owned and managed by non-Jews, and there were a number of halachic questions the vaad was unable to resolve. The rabbis decided to speak with Rabbi Yisroel Belsky, zt”l, who was an OU senior posek at the time. Small Jewish communities often lack the resources to support a kosher restaurant. To contend with this challenge, a vaad might try to find an existing (uncertified) restaurant in the neighborhood that is willing to make the necessary changes to become kosher.

  • Mattos Chassidus on the Massei ~ Mattos Chassidus on the Parsha +
LIGHTS OF OUR RIGHTEOUS TZADDIKIM בעזרת ה ' יתבר A Tzaddik, or righteous person , makes everyone else appear righteous before Hashem by advocating for them and finding their merits. Kedushas Levi, Parshas Noach (Bereishis 7:1) MATTOS ~ MASSEI _ CHASSIDUS ON THE PARSHA + Dvar Torah – Mattos Keep Your Word The Torah states (30:3), “If a man takes a vow or swears an oath to G -d to establish a prohibition upon himself, he shall not violate his word; he shall fulfill whatever comes out of his mouth.” In relation to this passuk , the Midrash quotes from Tehillim (144:4), “Our days are like a fleeting shadow.” What is the connection? This can be explained, says Rav Levi Yitzchok, according to a Gemara ( Nedarim 10b), which states, “It is forbidden to say, ‘ Lashem korban , for G-d − an offering.’ Instead a person must say, ‘ Korban Lashem , an offering for G -d.’ Why? Because he may die before he says the word korban , and then he will have said the holy Name in vain.” In this light, we can understand the Midrash. The Torah states that a person makes “a vow to G-d.” This i s the exact language that must be used, mentioning the vow first. Why? Because “our days are like a fleeting shadow,” and there is always the possibility that he may die before he finishes his vow and he will have uttered the Name in vain. n Story The wood chopper had come to Ryczywohl from the nearby village in which he lived, hoping to find some kind of employment.

Hasidic Judaism - Wikipedia, the freevisited encyclopedi ona 1/6/2015 Page 1 of 19 Hasidic Judaism From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Sephardic pronunciation: [ħasiˈdut]; Ashkenazic , תודיסח :Hasidic Judaism (from the Hebrew pronunciation: [χaˈsidus]), meaning "piety" (or "loving-kindness"), is a branch of Orthodox Judaism that promotes spirituality through the popularization and internalization of Jewish mysticism as the fundamental aspect of the faith. It was founded in 18th-century Eastern Europe by Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov as a reaction against overly legalistic Judaism. His example began the characteristic veneration of leadership in Hasidism as embodiments and intercessors of Divinity for the followers. [1] Contrary to this, Hasidic teachings cherished the sincerity and concealed holiness of the unlettered common folk, and their equality with the scholarly elite. The emphasis on the Immanent Divine presence in everything gave new value to prayer and deeds of kindness, alongside rabbinical supremacy of study, and replaced historical mystical (kabbalistic) and ethical (musar) asceticism and admonishment with Simcha, encouragement, and daily fervor.[2] Hasidism comprises part of contemporary Haredi Judaism, alongside the previous Talmudic Lithuanian-Yeshiva approach and the Sephardi and Mizrahi traditions. Its charismatic mysticism has inspired non-Orthodox Neo-Hasidic thinkers and influenced wider modern Jewish denominations, while its scholarly thought has interested contemporary academic study. Each Hasidic Jews praying in the Hasidic dynasty follows its own principles; thus, Hasidic Judaism is not one movement but a synagogue on Yom Kippur, by collection of separate groups with some commonality. There are approximately 30 larger Hasidic Maurycy Gottlieb groups, and several hundred smaller groups. Though there is no one version of Hasidism, individual Hasidic groups often share with each other underlying philosophy, worship practices, dress (borrowed from local cultures), and songs (borrowed from local cultures).

  • Torah Online - Rabbi Tuvia Bolton
Torah Online - Rabbi Tuvia Bolton This week’s Torah portion begins with a bizarre tragedy: On the day that the Jews inaugurated the first ‘House of G-d’ ever, the Tabernacle in the desert, Aaron’s two eldest sons, Nadav and Avihu, became so infatuated with the holiness that they rushed in to the Holy of Holies and were killed by flames that entered their nostrils. This is certainly very interesting and even shocking but seemingly it’s not very relevant to us today, which is the purpose of the Torah. The word ‘Torah’ means ‘teaching’ and every idea in it must be relevant to not only our daily lives but to the very essence of our beings. What is this story doing in the Torah? Today there is no Holy of Holies and people don’t get burnt because of rushing in there. What is the lesson here for us? To understand this here are two stories about Rabbi Moshe Feinstein who passed away almost exactly 25 years ago (13th of Adar 5746) The Torah is G-d's law. It teaches us how to sanctify every detail of the world. But it takes an unusual talent to know what the law is in every situation and such a person was Rabbi Moshe Feinstein.
