 “Are you better off?” is arguably one of President Reagan’s most famous quotes. President Reagan and President Carter had two opposing views in regards of government regulation in the and taxes. Therefore, this quote was meant to make the American people question President Carter’s leadership skills. In addition, this quote makes me believe that President Reagan didn’t think that Carter administration contributed positively to the American people.  Text: http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/?pid= 36520 Analysis from Speech  This speech was given by President Reagan to honor President Carter at the opening of his predecessor’s presidential center. The tone of this speech is light hearted and very friendly. Throughout the speech, President Reagan mentions how honored he is to be attending and speaking at the event as well as the deep respect he has for the former president. These two factors make it clear that even though Reagan and Carter didn’t agree on any issue, there was still a deep mutual respect. Works Cited
