No. 1 Samoana sat out the first round of the J-V playoffs, and will play on Monday, May 1 against Faga’itua. All eight teams in the varsity division made the playoffs, as well as all five teams in the J-V competition. VARSITY DOLPHINS 3, VIKINGS 2 Faga’itua scored first, but it was the defending champions that scored last to win the game thanks to a goal from Joshua Tabui with five minutes to spare in the game. The Vikings scored three minutes into the match when Raemos Fano beat his defender at the edge of the box, and slotted the ball past SPA’s goalie. Harvey Manu equalized for the Dolphins late in the first half, and both teams went into the break tied, 1-1. In the second period, Faga’itua went one up on the Dolphins with Alex Paletaleo scoring on a rebound off of a blocked shot. Again, Manu equalized on a direct free kick from the edge of the box that just went over the hands of Faga’itua’s goalie, and into the back of the net. Tabui then scored the game-winner on a rolling shot that crawled into the far post with five minutes left in the game.

(AP Photo/Darron Cummings, File) Published: 05/01 & 06/01/17 After sweeping Indiana in the opening round, the Cavs will have waited a full week before Monday’s Game 1 tips off at Quicken Loans Arena, where Cleveland is 15-1 against conference opponents over the past three postseasons. The down time gave James and his teammates a chance to recharge, heal some nagging bumps and bruises and prepare for a Toronto team that not only added Serge Ibaka (acquired from Orlando in February) and P.J. Tucker (acquired from Phoenix at the trade deadline) this season, but is looking for revenge after having its season ended by Cleveland in 2016. These Raptors don’t want that to happen again. “We’ve got some fighters and scrappers,” coach Dwane Casey said after Toronto elimi- nated Milwaukee in six games. “The guys are going to com- pete. We make it hard on our- selves sometime, but at the end of the day we’re going to go down swinging.” They submitted last year in Game 6 at home, when James scored 33 points with 11 rebounds, six assists and three blocks in Cleveland’s 113-87 win. “He canceled Christmas,” Casey said earlier this season. “One of these days ... one of these days.” For the Raptors to knock off the Cavs, whose shaky defense still showed some signifi- cant holes against the Pacers, Toronto stars DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry will have to be at their best. “The two-headed monster,” Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue said. DeRozan averaged 23.5 points per game in the opening round against the Bucks, and may need to bump that into the 30s for the Raptors to have a chance. Dear Abby by Abigail Van Buren FRIEND SUFFERING SEIZURES PLANS TO ELUDE DRIVING RESTRICTIONS DEAR ABBY: I’m acquainted with a woman who has been experiencing seizures for several years and, because of the seizures, has been restricted from driving. She drove her son to school a couple of years ago (he had missed the bus) and ran into a brick mailbox, totaling her car. She now wants to be able to drive and has said she will not tell her doctor about recent seizures. Isn’t this potentially dangerous? -- RESTRICTED DRIVING IN KENTUCKY DEAR RESTRICTED DRIVING: Of course it’s dangerous! It is also irresponsible and indefensible. Periodically, we hear in the media about tragedies that happened because someone had a seizure and drove into a restaurant, a shop window, etc. For someone with an illness that could endanger the lives of passengers, pedestrians and other innocent people to get behind the wheel of a vehicle is selfish and unconscionable. Encourage her to talk to her doctor about adjusting or changing her medication. And remind her that if she were to cause another accident, and it was discovered that she was driving in spite of being restricted, that she could not only kill people, she could also be prosecuted criminally and civilly. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• DEAR ABBY: Whenever I give my longtime friend a gift, her immediate reaction is to tell me, “Oh, no.” Then she immediately offers to give me money for the gift. When I give someone a gift, it is because I like that person and am excited to give them something I think they would like. When she tells me I shouldn’t have done it and keeps asking how much money she owes me, I feel very hurt. Now her daughter, whom I consider like my family, has learned it from her mom and does the same thing when I give her a gift. Abby, why do they react that way? I always give from my heart. -- GIFT GIVER IN TEXAS DEAR GIFT GIVER: I suspect your friend learned this behavior the way her daughter has -- from her mother. You might ask your friend to explain why she does this when you give her a gift, because her reaction is peculiar. (Could it be she feels unworthy?) Because you know that receiving gifts makes her uncomfortable, my advice is to quit giving her things. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• DEAR ABBY: I have a girlfriend. We have been dating for almost two months. We both love each other so much and think we are the perfect match. But she is going to high school and I’m a year younger, which puts me in eighth grade. We live close to each other, so we see each other on the weekends. She has been accepted to an amazingly good school, but it’s in downtown. What should we do? Should we keep our relationship or leave it if we won’t be able to see each other as often? -- TEENS IN LOVE DEAR TEENS: If I TOLD you to break up because in a few months you and this girl won’t be able to see each other as often, would you do it? I don’t think so! What I do suggest is that the two of you let this play out. Enjoy each other for now, and in the fall, if your feelings -- or hers -- change, discuss it then. samoa news, Monday May 01, 2017 Page B11 Page B12 samoa news, Monday May 01, 2017 Justin Bour has 6 RBIs to help Marlins beat Pirates 10-3 MIAMI (AP) — The Miami month, improved his batting Marlins took a look at a collage average from .184 to .222. of Ichiro Suzuki’s career and He had an RBI double in the began to swing the bat better. second, an RBI single in the Suzuki was given a Plexi- fourth, a two-run single in the glas mosaic of photographs fifth and a two-run homer in showing each of his first 3,000 Miami’s six-run seventh. hits during a pregame cere- “There’s that patch where mony Sunday, and the Marlins you feel like, maybe I won’t get promptly shook an offensive a hit for the rest of the season,” slump to beat the Pittsburgh Bour said. “You’ve got to con- Pirates 10-3. Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli sat out with a sore right foot and will be re-evaluated Monday. As insurance, before the game the Pirates selected the contract of catcher John Bormann from Class A Bra- denton, and OF Danny Ortiz was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis. Bormann, who was pre- paring for a game in Port Char- lotte when he learned of the pro- motion at 9 a.m. Sunday, made his major league debut when he struck out as a pinch hitter in the ninth.
