ABOUT THE COURSE This course is intended to inspire students & learners with global issues and the who cover them? This course engages learners, foster curiosity, and encourages critical thinking. Never before has the need for Literacy been more urgent. As communities and viewers are bombarded with a constant stream of , , rumours, half baked views, and imbalanced coverage — that often pose as credible journalism — it is becoming more and more difficult to distinguish fact from fiction, views versus news. While the elevated faith in the erodes, the training and studies in journalism too have suffered. Journalism is one of the most impactful careers globally and continues to play a solid part globally, be it in political upheavals, lifestyle changes, social development or health crisis. This one week course will help learners develop their foundational & analytical thinking skills to enable them to better interpret the world and processes of journalism, news-gathering processes and compiling a news report through hands-on projects, peer-to-peer feedback, and issue exploration and report news in a multimedia world and generally become better writers and better informed about the world in which we live. The course will discuss the key elements of journalism from the viewpoint of the news audience. The language of instruction is English. The course will challenge and nudge you to address various cases. With the exponential growth of digital media, journalism careers are on upswing and employability and media entrepreneurial opportunities are growing.

The final Capstone project will guide you through the journalistic portfolio process, where you will conceptualise, report and complete a professional-quality news report. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to; Describe key details and moments from reporting on past and present public health crises Summarize news articles by explaining the evolution of key ideas and themes Analyze how stories are researched and how they are reported across different news outlets Create original artwork amplifying the stories of individuals and communities To succeed in this course you will need be curious, write and discuss issues and be updated on current affairs not just in India but on a global level.

COURSE FORMAT Most videos will be lectures with instructor talking. Each lecture will be illustrated with PowerPoint slides, news capsules, and stories from around the world, case studies and news analysis, discussions, quiz and meet the session during the week. There would also be a simulated version of a typical editorial meeting. This will be supported by readings, videos. The learning week will have one quiz that will appear as stand-alone homework. All resources beyond lectures will be available online to students at no charge. Most of these will be in PDF, slides and reference video form archives of the University managing this course.

ESSENTIAL FOR THE COURSE Course requirements: As such there are no pre-requisite requirements. However, there will be certain reading materials and assignments. System requirements: PC, laptop or mobile device and broadband connectivity.
