Notes

Players may be nominated for representative cricket in Essex or Cambridgeshire if they are considered ready to perform at such a level. However, playing at this level relies on commitment as well as talent. If you feel you would like to be considered or if you feel you or your parents cannot make this commitment, please speak to your manager.

Highest batting average min. 5 innings/Lowest min. 10 overs. Please note that a more accurate picture of performance can be gained the more overs bowled or the more innings batted. A low minimum has been chosen to involve as many players as possible in the statistics. Overall batting and bowling awards are made by managers in consultation with coaches and others. There are no definitive criteria.

Club caps awarded to any established Academy player taking 5 in one match (including 5 stumpings and/or catches by a wicket keeper), scoring a century, playing at County level or being a first choice selection for the senior SWCC teams or village teams with whom SWCC have a formal arrangement. From 2009 Club caps will be awarded to girls for taking 3 wicket/catches, scoring 50 in a match and for County or adult selection.

Players’ Player may be awarded on the basis of Player of the Match nominations or a vote amongst other squad members.

Academy records have been compiled since 2003. There may well be superior performances before that – just let us know.

The Alfred Adams Batting Award. Alfred Adams scored 279 not out by batting all day against Bishop’s Stortford for SWCC on the Common on 11 July 1837. At the time it was the highest recorded individual score in the country. Fiona Harris was the first woman to play competitively for SWCC in 2002. She still plays for SWCC when she can. John Smith first played for SWCC in 1946 and retired in 1963 at the age of 35. He now lives in Chelmsford. He is the tallest of the team in many of the clubhouse photos of the 1950s and 60s.

Academician of the Year is awarded to the academy player who has made the strongest commitment to his or her own development and to the work of the Academy and Club. It may be related to the “Clubman of the Year” award for each age group.

Jack Petchey Awards are given for outstanding personal achievement. Winners receive a certificate, a medallion and £200 to be spent on the club.

We currently do not issue individual medals or trophies, preferring to issue certificates. This maximises involvement and keeps costs low. However, sponsors for individual trophies shown on the previous page are always welcome.

Nick Patterson, Nick Charge, Alan Williams Managers Dave Hancock Coach Captain Will Clark Vice-Captain Josh Charge / James Patterson Review of season The season will be remembered for the unremitting rain summed up by the County Cup Final. The team had won through to the final having received byes in both the quarter and semi-finals. Despite our best efforts to play, the rain defeated us and we were then defeated by St Giles on the toss of a coin over the phone! The Development Squad won all their games once more. Our teams finished 1st and 3rd in the same CYCA league and won the WEDCB North League.

Manager Peter Hill Coach Steve Atherton Captain Spencer Hill Review of season: A sad start without Josh Bysouth and then if only for the rain…..the u14s played only 5 CYCA League matches and I friendly and won them all quite convincingly. The u14s are CYCA u14C champions. Challenges and targets need to be set for 2013 to prepare for Match Play in 2014. I was really impressed by all the boys’ attitude to both training and playing, whenever that was possible! Credit is due to Steve Atherton and his colleagues Nick Patterson and Andrew Leeman, in dealing with the necessary points in turning boys that play cricket into young cricketers that perform as a team. Many of them have also made a successful transition to adult cricket. We missed Josh this year but will install a bench in his honour on the bank overlooking the Anglo American Playing Fields.

Manager Glyn & Michele Thomas Coach Kevin Duers Captains Rotated Review of season: The season was fragmented due to the weather with 20 matches being cancelled. It have been worse if we hadn't re-arranged a Peter Coe match at Audley End and also played Burwell with 16 players unavailable. There was a full 8 weeks between Peter Coe fixtures where we narrowly missed going through to the semi-finals, losing the last winner-takes-all match v Ilford. We entered five different competitions, in total we managed to play 13 games (of which 2 were friendlies and 3 were cup matches), winning 7 in total. In the cups we again reached the CYCA cup final but lost to a strong Bottisham-Lode team (who won through to the East of England finals). We lost in the West Essex Cup to the finalists. In the CYCA premier league, 2 of the matches that survived were against the strongest teams. Our one victory was against Cokenach.

The U12s had a total squad of 39 players, of whom 10 were new this season. 36 different players represented the U12s in league games during the season, and despite the weather the team managed to play 17 games in total, including friendlies. Squad Crocus

Manager Annette and Paul Coach Kevin Duers Leeman Hugh Parmenter Ben Nash Captain Vice Captain Review of season Due to the weather only one of the three scheduled term time tournaments took place, hosted by Crocus at the Anglo-American playing fields. This was played as a friendly between Crocus and Springfield as Harold Wood were unable to attend. Although competitive, both teams were very supportive of each other resulting in one win for Crocus and two for Springfield. During the holidays a depleted Crocus team travelled to Springfield and joined forces with an also depleted Harold Wood to play three matches against Springfield. Again the matches were played in good spirit, Springfield winning one and the joint team two. The final match was played as a 20:20 match which proved a good if challenging experience for teams more used to playing Kwik Cricket. Crocus has also attended an indoor tournament at the Essex County ground in February and taken part in a 24 hour Cricket-a-thon at Easter, also at the Essex Ground.

Squad under 10

Manager Kevin Clarke Coach

Captain Vice Captain Review of season Despite the appalling weather the team managed to play 5 of their 8 games, and entered 2 competitions. Out of an U10 squad of 35 players, 28 played plus 3 from the U9 squad who were recommended by the coaches. Of the 5 games played we won 4, with excellent batting, bowling and fielding by all. In the Aythrope Roding U11 competition, we lost in a very close final. At the SWCC event, both U10 teams won their semi finals.
