Newsletter Vol. 85 November 2018 ® THE NORTHCAP UNIVERSITY Bridging the gap between the classroom and the real world (For internal circulation only) NAAC ACCREDITED NCU Activities Message from the Governor The NorthCap University, Gurugram, celebrates its 7th Annual Convocation he NorthCap University, Gurugram, held its 7th Annual Convocation TCeremony for its various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on 20 November 2018. The event was a memorable one and was presided over by Hon'ble Mr Justice Dipak Misra, Former Chief Justice of India. Other luminaries present at the event included The NorthCap University's Chancellor and Hon'ble Mr Satyadev Narayan Arya Founder Member, Mr V Daulet Singh; Pro-Chancellor, Prof Prem Vrat; Vice- Governor of Haryana Chancellor, Prof. HB Raghavendra; Founder Members Mr Avdhesh Mishra and Mr Shiv Saran Mehra. A total of 903 students were awarded degrees in their respective disciplines, including 519 from BTech, 26 from MTech, 23 from BSc Maths (H), 27 from MSc (Maths), 94 from BBA, 61 from BCom (H), 25 from BSc (Eco), 32 from MBA, 77 from BBA-LLB (H), 7 from LLM and 12 awarded PhD. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were awarded to 31 candidates who topped the list in their respective streams and 4 Certificates of Merit were awarded. Mr Drofenik spoke on the impact of technology on law by Year Award’. giving a brief acumen of law employing new technologies to pursue goals which were pursued by other technologies in the past like e-document, e- signature, payment of obligations through e-money and discussed their position in other European nations. The keynote address at the event was delivered by Prof. Nuzhat Praveen Khan, Head and Dean, Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia. She highlighted issues related to technological advancements of society which have given intensification alarms in relation to integrity and security of cyber space, social networking sites, information, trust and privacy, consumer protection, taxation issues, jurisdictional questions, issues related to intellectual property rights and electronic transactions etc. The inaugural session was followed by three technical sessions under different themes. 69 delegates from across the country, including two foreign delegates, participated in the conference. Congratulating the graduating students Hon’ble Mr Justice Dipak Misra said, Participants received Certificates for Paper Presentation. Such a huge gathering of ecstatic students, enthusiastic teachers and proud parents in a Convocation ceremony is very rare.” Speaking about the new world of data he said, “Artificial Intelligence can never match the original intelligence of man and today you are the future and you will be determining the original intelligence. You have the distinctive quality of being rational.” On gender equality Mr Justice Misra said that he was a person who believed in primacy of gender equality and appreciated the University for also following the same. Earlier, amidst the chanting of mantras the convocation started with the academic procession. Later, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. HB Raghavendra, presented the Annual Report of the University. Speaking on the occasion he said, “The NorthCap University plays a crucial role in preparing students for a sound professional career. We strive to empower our youth capital with skills, abilities and attitude that will enable them to win deals and go on to become Daikin Centre of Excellence leaders and influencers and determine the fate of companies.” The Convocation ended with the oath taking ceremony by the students. Department of EECE (CSEO2018056) Workshop q A hands-on workshop on ‘Antenna Array Design through MATLAB’ (under context learning) was conducted by Ms Hitu Sharma, Mathsworks for BTech, ECE, 3rd and 5th Sem students on 2 Nov 2018. She discussed how to create and analyze antenna arrays in Antenna Toolbox, with emphasis on concepts such as beam scanning, side lobe level, mutual coupling, element patterns, and grating lobes, how to analyse the 3D modelling of Antenna, analyzing s-parameters, impedance etc. It helped students to deal with the practical aspect of the subject in their curriculum and hence gained experience to work on different types of antenna applications which will help them to make mini projects in their lab work. The event was coordinated by Dr Shaveta Arora, Ms Amanpreet Kaur and Prof. Swaran Ahuja. (ECE2018WO011) Workshop Data Analysis and Research Group, Dept of CSE&IT, organized a ‘Workshop on Augmented Reality’ on 9 Nov 2018 which was conducted by Mr Sourav Nayyar, Project Manager, Fidelity International, Gurugram. It started with an introduction to Augmented Reality (AR), AR-commonly used frameworks and AR-development tools. He extended AR to mixed reality and virtual reality. The workshop was attended by 50 students and faculty members. It was coordinated by Dr Vijendra Singh and members of data analysis and research group.
