An dem heute von zwei Direktoren geleiteten Institut sind ca. 60 Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler tätig, wobei ein Schwerpunkt bei der Förderung des internationalen wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses liegt. 2007 wurde am KHI eine Max Planck Minerva Research Group zu Kunst und der Kultivierung der Natur eingerichtet. Seit 2008 ist ein Max Planck Fellow und sein Projekt (Crossing Bound- aries, Creating Images: In Search of the Prophet Muhammad in Literary and Visual Traditions) an das Institut angeschlossen. Die erste Max Planck Research Group zum Thema »Das wissende Bild« war von 2006–2011 am Institut ansässig. Ende 2011 hat die MPRG »Objects in the Contact Zone - The Cross-Cultural Lives of Things« ihre Arbeit aufgenommen. Neben den zahlreichen Einzelforschungen, Drittmittelprojekten und einer Vielzahl von internationalen Kooperationen mit Universitäten, Museen und Forschungseinrichtungen werden am KHI größere lang- und mittelfristig angelegte Projekte durchgeführt, die thematisch von der Spätantike bis zur Moderne reichen. Forscherinnen und Forscher aus aller Welt können die institutseigenen Ressourcen nutzen, d.h. vor allem die Bibliothek mit über 310.000 zum Teil sehr seltenen Bänden – darunter über 1.000 laufend gehaltene Zeitschriften – und eine der weltweit um- fangreichsten Phototheken zur italienischen Kunstgeschichte mit derzeit ca. 610.000 analogen und 48.000 digitalen Bildern. Mit seinem dichten Programm an öffentlichen wissenschaftlichen Veranstaltungen und bis zu 100 Bibliotheksnutzern täglich verste- ht sich das KHI als Forum eines lebendigen, internationalen und interdisziplinär off- enen, wissenschaftlichen Austauschs. Deutsch- osteuropäisches Forum“ verzeichnen soll. In den Jahren 1974 bis 1999 erschienen die Teile 1 bis 6 dieses Bestandskatalogs: Teil 1 beinhaltet die Literatur über Ost- und Westpreußen, Danzig und das Memelland; Teil 2 umfaßt die Literatur über Böhmen, Mähren, Österreichisch-Schlesien, die sudetendeutschen Gebiete, die CSSR und Österreich; Band 3 verzeichnet das Schrifttum über Schlesien; Band 4 die Literatur zu Pommern und Posen; Band 5 setzt die Inhalte vom ersten Band fort und Band 6 bibliographiert die Literatur zu den deutschen Siedlungsgebieten in Südosteuropa. Mit diesem vorliegenden Katalog wird also Band 3 des Druckkatalogs „Schlesien, Nieder- und Oberschlesien“ von 1978 fortgesetzt, d. h. er verzeichnet alle von 1978 bis zum Redaktionsschluss im Jahr 2001 eingegangenen Titel der Bestandsgruppe Schlesien. Wie bereits in den vorangegangenen Bänden sind auch in diesem Teil des Druckkatalogs die Titelaufnahmen verkürzt in Anlehnung an

THE WHITE INTERNATIONAL: ANATOMY OF A TRANSNATIONAL RADICAL REVISIONIST PLOT IN CENTRAL EUROPE AFTER WORLD WAR I Nicholas Alforde Submitted in accordance with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy School of Social and International Studies University of Bradford 2013 Principal Supervisor: Gábor Bátonyi, DPhil Abstract Nicholas Alforde The White International: Anatomy of a Transnational Radical Revisionist Plot in Central Europe after World War I Keywords: Bauer, Gömbös, Horthy, Ludendorff, Orgesch, paramilitary, Prónay, revision, Versailles, von Kahr The denial of defeat, the harsh Versailles Treaty and unsuccessful attempts by paramilitary units to recover losses in the Baltic produced in post-war Germany an anti- Bolshevik, anti-Entente, radical right-wing cabal of officers with General Ludendorff and Colonel Bauer at its core. Mistakenly citing a lack of breadth as one of the reason for the failure of their amateurishly executed Hohenzollern restoration and Kapp Putsch schemes, Bauer and co-conspirator Ignatius Trebitsch-Lincoln devised the highly ambitious White International plot. It sought to form a transnational league of Bavaria, Austria and Hungary to force the annulment of the Paris Treaties by the coordinated use of paramilitary units from the war vanquished nations. It set as its goals the destruction of Bolshevism in all its guises throughout Europe, the restoration of the monarchy in Russia, the systematic elimination of all Entente-sponsored Successor States and the declaration of war on the Entente.

Mai 19851 In dem zu 87 % zerstörten Ulm sah man noch Jahrzehnte nach Kriegsende die blutige Spur der Zerstörung, aber ein subjektives Verschulden der Führungs- schicht, auch der die repressiven Gesetze ausführenden Strafjustiz, wurde lange Zeit nicht diskutiert. Dies erschien durch die Sühnen und Haftstrafen in den Ent- nazifizierungsverfahren abgegolten zu sein, weshalb das nationalsozialistische Unrecht in der Öffentlichkeit und der Justiz lange Zeit strafrechtlich unerörtert blieb. Erst mit dem Einsatzgruppen-Prozess vom 28.04.1958 vor dem Landge- richt Ulm – dem seinerzeit größten Strafverfahren in der noch jungen Bundesrepublik - begann die Aufarbeitung dieses Bereiches. Geahndet wurden die Ermordungen von tausenden Juden und Partisanen in Tilsit/Russland nach dem Einmarsch der Wehrmacht durch das „Einsatzkommando Tilsit“. Die Ange- klagten wurden wegen Beihilfe zum Mord an 5. 000 Juden und Bolschewisten bis zu fünfzehn Jahren Zuchthaus verurteilt.

This mixture between two temporalities then appears as a paradox. Faced with this contemporary reality, where photography is an obvious fact, it is important to isolate in the current creation constructed images that challenge us. So we want to offer readings of these photographs through an exhibition, the duration of which gives us the opportunity to really linger over these visual objects. We propose to apprehend the photographic image against the current: our interest is then on creations that interrogate the eye and the mind, or nothing is a priori pledge of truth. The genesis of our collective is that of a group of eight students with the same inspiration. It was formed on the benches of the University Panthéon-Sorbonne during our meeting in art history license. Brought together by our common taste for contemporary photography, it is natural that we have nourished a project that materializes today in a future exhibition.

    2017. Blin and Arab Historians in the Twelfth Century

    BLIN AND ARAB HISTORIANS IN THE TWELFTH CENTURY. Presented on the Blin Conference Stuttgart, Germany in July 21-23, 2017. Idris Abubeker (PhD) Abstract The ancient history of the Blin still needs to be investigated. Within this premise, this paper discusses three Arabic texts written in the twelfth century in relation to the history of the Blin. Two of them were written by El-Idrissi the historian while the third one was a manuscript written by a poet called Ibn al-Qalaqis. I would argue that one of the texts of El- Idrissi and the manuscript of Ibn al-Qalaqis are discussed for the first time. Giving prominence for treatment of the two texts, may contribute to our knowledge of the study of Blin. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND The first inhabitant of the east Africa region is the Nilotic group. They dominated this region for thousands of years, until the advent of the Cushitic group that led them either to mix with them or to migrate out of that area or to settle in specific areas1. It is believed that the Cushitic group entered to this region from the Arabian Peninsula via Bab al-Mandab or from the Caucasus through Egypt between the fifth and third millennium BC. They relied on animals that could live in harsh desert life like camels and others. They developed architecture and music, as evidenced by the construction of pyramids in Egypt and the Church of Lalibela in Ethiopia and the ancient port of Adulis in Eritrea and others2. The demographics of these groups were spread throughout the region from southern Egypt to northern Kenya.

    Evgeni Dybsky Giotto Project Evgeni Dybsky Giotto Project Jeanette Zwingenberger Evgeni Dybsky, Splitting time Processes of perception, remembrance, creation Dybsky’s work is like an old mirror that reflects past, present and future times. The cracks and stains testify to the shad- ing and dilation of time. Whereas the picture of Wilde’s Dorian Gray1 is a portrait that acts as the alter ego of a character, Dybsky is not concerned with depicting a subject but rather immerses us in processes of perception and remembering, in a dialogue with the work of Giotto. In the beginning was Dybsky’s 1988 voyage to Padua, where he first encountered the fresco cycle of Giotto (1266–1337) in the Cappella degli Scrovegni. During a subsequent visit in 2005 he was confronted with the restored works. The frescos had been heavily painted over, the original seemingly obliterated. Dybsky’s project addresses the questions: what remains of Giotto’s work? What was the experience of those who originally saw it? How is it received today? This loss is the starting point for Dybsky’s anachronological procedure. It takes him from the search for the original colours to a new creative process. The “Splitting time” of the title is an allusion to Gilles Deleuze’s distinction between two aspects of time. If we apply this concept to Dybsky’s work, Giotto represents the preserved series of past times within our transient series of presents2. This is a simultaneous union of present and past that corresponds to Deleuze’s concept of the “crystal image”. For Deleuze, if you follow memory on its own terms, then the images stop organizing themselves according to spatial criteria in favour of purely temporal ones.
