En Mötesplats Fylld Av Mening 2014:1 Leena Hagsmo | En mötesplats fylld av mening Hagsmo Leena En mötesplats fylld av mening Avhandlingen handlar om vad som kan ske när människor möts och samarbetar En mötesplats fylld av mot ett gemensamt mål. Den visar på betydelsen för enskilda personer av att ingå i ett socialt sammanhang de själva valt och hur detta i sin tur kan ha betydelse för den plats där detta förekommer. Det som har utgjort grunden för undersökningen 2014:1 mening är den forna Arvikafestivalens organisation, Galaxen. Festivalen är skapad i ett underifrånperspektiv till största delen i ett ideellt sammanhang. Syftet med En studie om gemenskap och samarbete i skapandet av avhandlingen är att förstå hur positiva sociala effekter skapas i de relationer som Arvikafestivalen uppstår i arbetet med en festival och hur det i sin tur blir en del av platsskapandet. Intervjuer har genomförts med personer som har arbetat i festivalorganisationen från Arvikafestivalens start år 1992. Det är deras upplevelser och erfarenheter som i huvudsak utgjort underlaget för analysen. I sammanhanget diskuteras även Leena Hagsmo betydelsen av Arvikas kulturarv för uppkomsten av festivalen. Avhandlingen visar att Arvikafestivalen var av betydelse för många människor och bidrog till att nya processer startade. Det skapades en tillåtande miljö där det fanns utrymme för egna idéer. Genom att planera och skapa något tillsammans med andra uppstod en stark gemenskap. De kontakter och de lärdomar som individerna erhöll ur arbetet med festivalen har gett avtryck på platsen Arvika. Det som från början handlade om att göra något som var roligt har bidragit till så mycket mer. Karlstad University Studies 2014:01 This thesis explores what happens when people come together to pursue a common goal. It points to the importance for individuals to be part of a social context that they have chosen and how this belonging in turn can impact on the place where the phenomenon occurs. The basis of the study is the organisation of the once popular Arvika Festival as a social meeting place. The festival was created from a bottom-up perspective in a basically non-profit context. The aim of the thesis is to explain how positive social effects are created through the relations established in the process of arranging a festival and how these in turn become part of place-making. Interviews were conducted with persons who have worked in the festival organisation since the start in 1992. The analysis is essentially based on their experiences and observations. The importance of Arvika’s cultural heritage for the emergence of the festival is also discussed. The concept of social capital is used as a theoretical tool to describe and discuss the social context of the festival organisation and its external relations. The relations, contacts, and links created are further described and discussed in terms of the activity space of the festival organisation and how this overlaps and becomes part of the activity space of other actors. Place is approached from a relational perspective, which does not exclude meaning. The Arvika Festival carried meaning and significance while creating a sense of place The study shows that the Arvika Festival was important to many people and generated new processes. A tolerant environment for new ideas was created. A strong sense of community was developed in the course of planning and working together. The contacts and experiences that the individuals acquired in the making of the festival have left imprints on the place, Arvika. What started out as doing something for fun turned out to do so much more. Det har varit roligt och stundtals svårt, men något av det bästa jag har gjort. År 1999 började jag på Turismgeografiprogrammet vid Karlstad universitet, en satsning som jag aldrig ångrat. År 2003 tog jag min filosofie magisterexamen i kulturgeografi. Åren innan jag började studera ägnade jag mig åt att vara dagmamma och samtidigt vara hemma hos mina barn, vilket sedermera övergick till en anställning på dagis. Var sak har sin tid, brukar jag säga och så har det verkligen varit. Åren jag fick tillfälle att ägna mig åt mina egna barn har varit de bästa! Efter magisterexamen kom tiden som projektassistent/utredare i Cerut. En betydelsefull del av min resa. Tack alla ”cerutare” för den tiden både på universitetet och utanför samt för oförglömliga minnen för livet. Var inte oroliga Åsa och Sara vår citatbok har jag gömt! Åren på Cerut avlöstes av min forskarutbildning. Det är många personer som varit betydelsefulla för mig under mina år på universitetet. Jag vill tacka Sune Berger och Thomas Blom. Ååå – vilket härligt doktorandliv det har varit tack vare ER! Minnen är många och gyllene, allt från hysteriska toalettbesök i Berlin, till goda dagar i Köln, halkiga gator i New Castle, hysteriska skratt på tåget till Roskilde och vinmys både här och där samt härliga kvällar på Bishop. Och framförallt alla ”prat” under vardagliga dagar på universitetet. (Tänk Ida ingen vet att vi nästan missade planet till New Castle!! Lars och Gerhard kunde ha stått och väntat än!) Eppure quando si pensa al frisbee si pensa subito al classico scambio del disco tra due persone sulla spiaggia. Considerato da molti solo un passatempo estivo, pochi sanno invece che il frisbee è un variegato mondo di discipline sportive praticate su sabbia e prato. Per capire il mondo del frisbee bisogna paragonarlo a quello della palla. Se infatti la palla è la protagonista di un’infinità di sport, dal calcio al basket, dalla pallavolo al rugby, dalla pallamano alla pallanuoto, anche il frisbee è il protagonista di un’ampia gamma di sport e giochi di squadra o individuali.

Entrepreneurship as boundary work: deviating from and belonging to community Monica Lindgren and Johann Packendorff ENTREPRENEURSHIP AS BOUNDARY WORK: A SOCIAL CONSTRUCTIONIST PERSPECTIVE Entrepreneurship is usually seen as a solution to problems in community development – through new firms, new industries and community mobiliza- tion, stagnating regions and cities are expected to return to growth and pros- perity (Cornwall, 1998). While this solution is almost undisputed, the question of what entrepreneurship is and how it emerges often remains unanswered or neglected (Spinosa et al., 1997). There is also an underpinning positive assumption that all new firms or entrepreneurial acts are good for any local community and that they are well received by the locals (Welsch and Kuhns, 2002). Moreover, it is said that industries should be built on local resources, competencies and culture – the question is how we can develop our town and local area out of our existing traditions, culture and habits. We can find this ideal of the embedded industrial cluster throughout the world. In France there are different wine and food districts, there are US cities where all activities are built around car manufacturing (e.g. Detroit), there are regions inhabited by numerous glass and crystal manufacturers (Småland in Sweden, Bohemia in the Czech Republic). There are the famous local special- izations of northern Italy with their emphasis on civil society, not to mention the notorious US case of Silicon Valley (Saxenian, 2000). We have thus many examples of clusters where traditions and cultures are part of how to and what to produce, and where people have been able to construct affluent communi- ties out from their local culture.

    Music Festivals in Sweden - An Analysis of the Ten Largest Commercial Festivals 2000 - 2013 Daniel Johansson Linnaeus University, Sweden Department of Computer Science & Department of Economics [email protected] Abstract This study examines the development for commercial music festivals in Sweden during the time period 2000 - 2013. Although it is clear that some legendary Swedish music festivals have disappeared during the latest years, this study indicates that the number of paying visitors of the largest festivals continues to increase. In fact, 2013 was the record year during the studied time frame regarding the number of paying visitors to the ten largest commercial festivals, with official visitor figures validated through STIM data. Nevertheless, the Swedish music festival market has changed considerably. The purpose of the paper is to describe some of these changes as well as provide a quantitative foundation for further research questions to be dealt with in the future. 1. Introduction In 2013, the term "festivaldöden" (festival death) was widely used in Swedish media to describe the development of the Swedish music festival market.1 Both the Siesta! festival in Hässleholm and the Peace & Love festival in Borlänge were forced to cancel their programs during 2013, and Tivolirock in Kristianstad as well as Sundsvalls Gatufest filed for bankruptcy after conducted festivals. In 2011 the legendary Arvika festival went bankrupt. In 2010, the mother of all Swedish music festivals, the Hultsfred festival, had to shut down although the festival reappeared in 2011 by another arranger, just to be declared dead in the end of 2013. During the latest years many other music festivals have witnessed on tough economic situations as a result of the changing market for music festivals in Sweden.

Come migliorare l'impatto ambientale di festival e feste nostrane? L'estate è, anche in Ticino, tempo di festival, ma anche feste grandi e piccole. Sempre più festival prestano attenzione al loro impatto ambientale, sia per quanto riguarda la limitazione della produzione di rifiuti, il loro riciclaggio, i trasporti collettivi, il risparmio energetico (molto legato alla catena del freddo e del caldo nell'alimentazione). Da questo lato ci sembra che in Ticino si debbano fare ancora parecchi passi avanti per realizzare degli eventi ambientalmente sostenibili e mettere termine alla produzione di montagne di rifiuti non riciclati e a sprechi energetici. Il Ticino può guardare a quanto di buono fatto altrove e adattarlo alla propria realtà. Delle linee direttive ambientali per i festival musicali sono state adottate dall'associazione mantello YOUROPE - THE EUROPEAN FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION. L'associazione opera anche a favore di buone condizioni di lavoro, di salute e di sicurezza, oltre che ambientali. Il Paleo Festival di Nyon, il Festival jazz di Montreux, l'Open Air di S. Gallo e Weekend Au Bord de L'Eau Switzerland hanno già ottenuto la certificazione verde dell'Associazione. / Chiedo pertanto al Consiglio di Stato se intende promuovere una dimensione più verde dei festival e feste, che si svolgono in Ticino, affinché si riduca l'impatto ambientale degli stessi e nel contempo si veicoli pure un'immagine turistica positiva all'estero.
