  • Dinosaur Jr Till Skandinavien
På måndag släpps Dinosaur Jr:s nionde album "Farm". our first show at an Amherst youth center. Scott Helland’s brother Eric’s band Mace played; they became The Outpatients. Our first Boston show was with DYS, The Mighty COs and The AMERICA’S HARDCORE FU’s. It was very intense for us. We were so intimidated. Future generations will fuck up again THE OUTPATIENTS got started in 1982 by Deep Wound bassist Scott Helland At least we can try and change the one we’re in and his older brother Eric “Vis” Helland, guitarist/vocalist of Mace — a 1980-82 — Deep Wound, “Deep Wound” Metal group that played like Motörhead but dug Black Flag (a rare blend back then). The Outpatients opened for bands like EAST COAST Black Flag, Hüsker Dü and SSD. Flipside called ’em “one of the most brutalizing live bands In 1980, over-with small cities and run-down mill towns across the Northeast from the period.” 1983’s gnarly Basement Tape teemed with bored kids with nothing to do. Punk of any kind earned a cultural demo included credits that read: “Play loud in death sentence in the land of stiff upper-lipped Yanks. That cultural isolation math class.” became the impetus for a few notable local Hardcore scenes. CANCEROUS GROWTH started in 1982 in drummer Charlie Infection’s Burlington, WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS MA bedroom, and quickly spread across New had an active early-80s scene of England. They played on a few comps then 100 or so inspired kids. Western made 1985’s Late For The Grave LP in late 1984 Mass bands — Deep Wound, at Boston’s Radiobeat Studios (with producer The Outpatients, Pajama Slave Steve Barry).

  • Dinosaur Jr. to Shred the Met, Sep 27
Dinosaur Jr. to Shred The Met, Sep 27 Dinosaur Jr.: (L-R) J Mascis, Lou Barlow, Murph Dinosaur Jr. have been putting out amazing music ever since the original trio of J Mascis, Murph and Lou Barlow got back together in 2005. Four albums have risen from the reunion, with Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not the most recent in August 2016. The evolution of the band since 1984 has Mascis and Barlow both bringing their songwriting talents to the forefront while Murph proves he’s one of the best drummers alive on every track. In an age where underground rock has been searching for its latest identity, Dinosaur Jr. has resurrected and reinvigorated the classic alternative sound. This trio will be taking the stage at The Met in Pawtucket on Sep 27 for what should be a killer time with Detroit’s Easy Action opening things up. I had a talk with Murph ahead of the show about being in fellow Massachusetts band The Lemonheads during the ‘90s, the differences between playing with J and Evan Dando, breaking sticks and what his favorite drum kit is. Rob Duguay (Motif): Dinosaur Jr.’s latest album Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not came out a little over a year ago. J Mascis has produced nearly all of Dinosaur Jr.’s records: Is there any difference between working with J as a musician versus J as a producer, or is it all the same? Murph: It’s pretty much the same. When J is in the studio producing and engineering, Lou and I aren’t there.

The 100 Greatest Alternative Singles of the '90s - Part 2 (80 - 61) popmatters.com /feature/the-100-greatest-alternative-singles-of-the-90s-part-2-80-61/ by Chris Gerard 14 July 2016 The second part of our examination of the 100 Greatest Alternative Singles of the '90s includes Pavement, Suzanne Vega, Morrissey, Dinosaur Jr., and more. 1/4 80. Sisters of Mercy - “More” (1990) Jim Steinman, famed writer and producer of wonderfully overblown theatrical rock like Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell, Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now”, was a natural fit to produce the electronic goth-dance epic “More” by Sisters of Mercy. They are, after all, a band never afraid to go way, way over the top, which is just where Jim Steinman likes it. “More” is the soundtrack to a vampire nightclub, played deep in the night while black-garbed ghouls flit gracefully about the shadowy dance-floor, lightning flickering overhead. The album version stretches for over eight minutes, but the single mix really delivers all that you need. Starting with bracing jolts of synth, “More” builds slowly from a piano base with half-whispered vocals before exploding with the chorus “I want more!” and seemingly incongruously soulful vamping that somehow works despite belonging to another sonic dimension. Andrew Eldritch’s mordant growl is a tense counterpoint to the soaring backing vocals. Electronic strings and treated piano help to build a darkly atmospheric backdrop while Eldritch half-whispers the verses with as much drama as he can muster.
