The Nafi Baba Center for Research in Sufism,History, and Cultural Heritage 330 Faculties ABOUT BOĞAZİÇİ UNIVERSITY Having launched its teaching and research activities at only one campus in 1971 and now with its seven campuses established on 1,669,106m2 in total, Boğaziçi University has since contributed to higher education and scientific development as one of the pioneer and esteemed research universities of Turkey. In the University Strategic Plan, research topic was covered under two headlines: (1) Increasing Research and Resource Effectiveness; (2) Empowering Culture of Science, Research, Creativity and Innovation. While under the first headline the steps towards the enhancement of research infrastructure, increasing and diversifying the resources and transforming the research data into resources are defined, under the second headline; developing research strategy, ensuring research visibility and its integration with all other activities at the University were targeted. In our Strategic Plan, ensuring the visibility of science, creativity and innovation, sharing research results with public in other ways beside high quality publications and extending the research culture by encouraging research integrated in education at the University were targeted. At Boğaziçi University, teaching and research are the main two complementary and supporting components. As per this philosophy underlying any successful university, our University encourages the research life in all current and prioritized topics related to all academic fields in a multi- and inter-disciplinary manner, in cooperation with diverse sectors and international actors, placing a high emphasis on social and basic sciences. At Boğaziçi University, in 29 academic departments under four faculties, two schools for vocational studies and six institutes; a total of 33 undergraduate programs, 67 master programs of which 46 are executive and other graduate programs and 33 doctoral programs are available. Being a research university, the university holds 32 research centers and 147 research labs working on unique research topics. Of a total of 15.918 registered students, 12.887 are undergraduate, 3.031 are graduate and 1.064 are doctoral students. 7 Boğaziçi University has targeted motivating the researchers working in the research centers and labs for generating high quality publications and new research projects; supporting research-development-innovation, centers of excellences and large-scale, strategically important, multi-and inter-disciplinary research, and increasing capacity in key and emerging research areas. Based on this strategic priority, the University was structured to activate the support service to project activities and researchers. Boğaziçi University supports the researchers with a body including Research Planning Coordination (APK) Office, Boğaziçi University Research Fund (BAP) Administrative Coordinatorship, BAP Financial Coordinatorship, Revolving Funds (DÖSE) Enterprise Directorate along with Technology Transfer Office (TTO) with International and National Projects Units and Patent Office under it. Boğaziçi University supports research projects by utilizing its internal resources through BAP and provides information, education and project writing services within its TTO for accessing national and international project resources. TTO acts as a medium to bring the University and industry together to develop mutual projects. and to design intellectual property rights and working conditions with contracts. TTO also provides services for management and licensing of intellectual and industrial rights. Public or industry supported projects are carried out at Boğaziçi University Technopark (BÜN Teknopark) or Revolving Funds Enterprise. Boğaziçi University supports entrepreneurship activities of its researcher and students in pre-incubation centers within TTO, in KOSGEB/TEKMER and BÜN Teknopark incubators. The doctoral degrees of full-time Faculty of Boğaziçi University are received either from abroad or from one of the distinguished universities of Turkey. Of currently 429 full-time faculty members, 322 have got their doctoral degrees from abroad; 65 are graduates of Boğaziçi University, 14 are graduates of Middle East Technical University, 7 are graduates of Istanbul Technical University, 6 are graduates of Istanbul University and 18 are graduates of other Turkish universities. Academic staff includes 47 faculty members and 51 instructors of diverse nationalities, working on a contract basis in various departments. September 2020 8 1 Faculties The Faculty of Arts and Sciences The contribution of Boğaziçi University to higher education stems both from its philosophy of education and the unique content of its courses. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences plays a key role in this contribution through the program of courses it provides, which also constitutes a major portion of the curricular requirements of other Faculties during the first four semesters of study. The goal of The Faculty of Arts and Sciences is to provide a well-balanced and challenging curriculum implemented in a way to enable the students to acquire a solid educational background as well as a capacity for critical thinking, and hence for exploration and independent research. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences offers programs leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Physics, and to the degree of Bachelor of Arts in History, Psychology, Sociology, Translation and Interpreting Studies, Turkish Language and Literature, and Western Languages and Literatures.     Standardization Problem of Author Affiliations in Citation Indexes Zehra Taşkın and Umut Al Hacettepe University, Department of Information Management, 06800, Beytepe ANKARA Tel: +90 (312) 297 8200 Fax: +90 (312) 299 2014 [email protected] Abstract: Academic effectiveness of universities is measured with the number of publications and citations. However, accessing all the publications of a university reveals a challenge related to the mistakes and standardization problems in citation indexes. The main aim of this study is to seek a solution for the unstandardized addresses and publication loss of universities with regard to this problem. To achieve this, all Turkey-addressed publications published between 1928 and 2009 were analyzed and evaluated deeply. The results show that the main mistakes are based on character or spelling, indexing and translation errors. Mentioned errors effect international visibility of universities negatively, make bibliometric studies based on affiliations unreliable and reveal incorrect university rankings. To inhibit these negative effects, an algorithm was created with finite state technique by using Nooj Transducer. Frequently used 47 different affiliation variations for Hacettepe University apart from “Hacettepe Univ” and “Univ Hacettepe” were determined by the help of finite state grammar graphs. In conclusion, this study presents some reasons of the inconsistencies for university rankings. It is suggested that, mistakes and standardization issues should be considered by librarians, authors, editors, policy makers and managers to be able to solve these problems. Johnson Department of Engineering Physics, Engineering Mechanics Program, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Materials Research Science and Engineering Center on Nanostructured Materials and Interfaces, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI 53706, USA Abstract At small scales, mechanics enters a new regime where the role of surfaces, interfaces, defects, material property variations, and quantum effects play more dominant roles. A new course in nanoscale mechanics for engineering students was recently taught at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. This course provided an introduction to nanoscale engineering with a direct focus on the critical role that mechanics needs to play in this developing area. The limits of continuum mechanics were presented as well as newly developed mechanics theories and experiments tailored to study and describe micro- and nano-scale phenomena. Numerous demonstrations and experiments were used throughout the course, including synthesis and fabrication techniques for creating nanostructured materials, bubble raft models to demonstrate size scale effects in thin film structures, and a laboratory project to construct a nanofilter device. A primary focus of this paper is the laboratory content of this course, which includes an integrated series of laboratory modules utilizing atomic force microscopy, self-assembled monolayer deposition, and microfluidic technology. Introduction Nanoscale science and technology are inspiring a new industrial revolution that some predict will rival the development of the automobile and the introduction of the personal computer.1 By observing and manipulating materials at the nanoscale, researchers have been able to develop new materials with novel and extreme properties.

Cohen, Ron Blonder, Shelley Rap, and Jack Barokas Abstract The internet has influenced all aspects of modern society, yet likely none more than education—opening new possibilities for how, where, and when we learn. Nanoscience and nanotechnology have developed over a similar time frame as the rapid growth of the internet and thus the use of the internet for nanoscience education serves as an interesting paradigm for internet-enabled education in general. In this chapter we give an overview of use of internet in nanoeducation, first in terms of available resources, then by describing the technological, philo- sophical, and pedagogical approaches. In order to illustrate the concepts, we describe as example a for-credit nanoscience curriculum which the authors devel- oped recently as part of an international team. 6.1 Introduction and Background The nature and emphasis of education in formal pedagogical frameworks as well as informal learning has been irreversibly impacted by the world-wide web and other rapidly changing technologies. Online resources have become a major source of information and knowledge, replacing texts and face-to-face (F2F) traditional courses. In the past decade, complete course materials have been made public, ranging from uploaded lecture notes to full video recorded class presentations. Various degrees of interactivity have been implemented in the different formats [1]. Whether it is medical assays, materials, or devices, nanotechnology has firmly rooted itself in our modern lives. In order to meet the growing need for scientists, engineers, and technicians to service and further develop this trend, the educational system must provide suitable training [2].

    ISSN 2667-4211 ESKİŞEHİR TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY JOURNAL OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY A – Applied Sciences and Engineering Volume 20 Number 4 - December - 2019 Volume: 20 / Number: 4 / December - 2019 Eskişehir Technical University Journal of Science and Technology A - Applied Sciences and Engineering (formerly Anadolu University Journal of Science and Technology A - Applied Sciences and Engineering) is an peer-reviewed and refereed international journal by Eskişehir Technical University. Since 2000, it has been regularly published and distributed biannually and it has been published quarterly and electronically only since 2016. Manuscripts submitted for publication are analyzed in terms of scientific quality, ethics and research methods in terms of its compliance by the Editorial Board representatives of the relevant areas. Then, the abstracts of the appropriate articles are sent to two different referees with a well-known in scientific area. If the referees agree to review the article, full text in the framework of the privacy protocol is sent. In accordance with the decisions of referees, either directly or corrected article is published or rejected. Confidential reports of the referees in the journal archive will be retained for ten years. All post evaluation process is done electronically on the internet. Detailed instructions to authors are available in each issue of the journal. Eskişehir Technical University holds the copyright of all published material that appear in Eskişehir Technical University Journal of Science and Technology A - Applied Sciences and Engineering. TERMS OF APPLICATION (Presidency of Higher Education Council General Principles For International Students Admission) Who can apply? a) On the condition that they are final year students at High school or already graduate. 1) 1) Foreign Nationals 2) Turkish citizen by birth but permitted to be denationalized by the ministry of internal affairs (blue card holders) 3) Those foreigners by birth but becoming Turkish citizens afterwards/ dual citizens under this circumstance. 4) Those who completing their secondary education in a foreign country (apart from TRNC) including students finishing their educations abroad (apart from TRNC) at Turkish schools operating under the Ministry of Education (MEB), WHO CANNOT APPLY? 1) Those who hold Turkish citizenship but completing whole high school education in Turkey or TRNC, 2) Those who hold the citizenship of the TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) 3) Who hold a dual citizenship one of which is Citizenship of Republic of Turkey by birth as defined in the article a item 2 (except for those fulfilling the requirements article a item 4) 4)Those who hold the citizenship of TR or a dual citizenship, one of which is the citizenship of the TR by birth, as stated in article 2 item a ,and who have completed their secondary education at institutions with an embassy or in other foreign institution in Turkey.
