To pismo smo potrdili in pečatili z našim obešenim pečatom. (L. A.) 2 ZAKLADI Johann Weikhard Valvasor, Bartholomaeus Ramschissl: Opus insignium armorumque … Das grosse Wappenbuch … , Slovenska akademija znanosti in umetnosti, Ljubljana 1993. Velika grbovna knjiga kranjskega polihistorja Janeza Vajkarda Valvasorja (1641-1693) in slikarja Bartolomeja Ramschissla (1663-1711). V Knjižnici A. T. Linharta smo ponosni, da imamo v svojem fondu faksimile rokopisa velike grbovne knjige Janeza Vajkarda Valvasorja in Bartolomeja Ramschissla. Branko Reisp (o J. V. Valvasorju), dr. Božo Otorepec (o heraldiki) in dr. Emilijan Cevc (o B. Ramschisslu). O življenju in delu dr. Borisa Furlana izvemo več v zborniku Usoda slovenskih demokratičnih izobražencev. Angela Vode in Boris Furlan – žrtvi Nagodetovega procesa, Slovenska matica, Ljubljana 2001. Med avtorji razprav so ugledna imena: Ervin Dolenc, Aleš Gabrič, Bojan Godeša, Mateja Jeraj, Jelka Melik, Mirjam Milharčič Hladnik, Janez Kranjc, Marijan Pavčnik, Ljubo Sirc, Marta Verginella in Jerca Vodušek Starič. • Research Proposal for the Phd Program in Comparative History An
Research proposal for the PhD program in Comparative History An Intellectual, Organizational and Transnational History of Feminism in Interwar Yugoslavia (1918-1941) While recently there has been an increase in the interest in the history of women’s organizations and practices and the intellectual history of feminism in the period of socialist Yugoslavia (Chiara Bonfiglioli, Zsofia Lorand, Ivana Pantelić), as well as in the history of feminism and women’s writing in Serbia before World War I (Ana Stolić, Biljana Dojčinović, Ana Kolarić), disproportionally little has been written about feminist ideas and practices in interwar Yugoslavia. The image of the feminist project in interwar Yugoslavia has been so far embedded into state- socialist narratives and largely shaped by concerns about the workers’ movements. Moreover, feminist historians in the 1980s and 1990s have been mostly preoccupied with the previous, socialist interpretation and have not tackled many of the complexities of the interwar period, such as, probably the most obvious, multiple identity building projects in Yugoslavia. By looking at numerous publications written by Yugoslav women, I as well as the work of various women’s organizations, the aim of my proposed research is to explore feminist ideas and practices in interwar Yugoslavia and to understand what the concept of feminism meant and how it was used in this historical context. Historians often characterize Yugoslav interwar women’s movements and practices simply as “conservative,” “socialist” and “liberal.” I intend to examine this division by investigating these currents of thought in Yugoslavia up to the beginning of World War II, with a special focus on the collaboration between the established “liberal” organization Ženski pokret [The Women’s Movement] and young women from the Yugoslav Communist Party who joined Ženski pokret from 1935, during the Popular Front.

  • Women's and Gender History in Central Eastern Europe, 18Th to 20Th Centuries
Forthcoming in: Irina Livezeanu, Arpad von Klimo (eds), The Routledge History of East Central Europe since 1700 (Routledge 2015) Women‘s and Gender History1 Krassimira Daskalova and Susan Zimmermann Since the 1980s, historians working on East Central Europe, as on other parts of the world, have shown that historical experience has been deeply gendered. This chapter focuses on the modern history of women, and on gender as a category of analysis which helps to make visible and critically interrogate ―the social organization of sexual difference‖2. The new history of women and gender has established, as we hope to demonstrate in this contribution, a number of key insights. First, gender relations are intimately related to power relations. Gender, alongside dominant and non-dominant sexualities, has been invoked persistently to produce or justify asymmetrical and hierarchical arrangements in society and culture as a whole, to restrict the access of women and people identifying with non-normative sexualities to material and cultural goods, and to devalue and marginalize their ways of life. Second, throughout history both equality and difference between women and men have typically resulted in disadvantage for women. Men and women have generally engaged in different socio-cultural, political and economic activities, and this gender-based division of labor, which has itself been subject to historical change, has tended to put women in an inferior position. Even when women and men appeared as equals in one sphere of life, this perceived equality often resulted in drawbacks or an increased burden for women in another area and women‘s contribution was still devalued as compared to men‘s.

  • Teaching Gender in Social Work
Teaching Gender in Social Work Teaching Teaching with Gender How can educators (teachers, professors, trainers) address issues of gender, women, gender roles, feminism and gender equality? The ATHENA thematic network brings together specialists in women’s and gender studies, feminist research, women’s rights, gender equality and diversity. In the book series ‘Teaching with Gender’ the partners in this network have collected articles on a wide range of teaching practices in the field of gender. The books in this series address challenges and possibilities of teaching about women and gender in a wide range of educational contexts. The authors discuss the pedagogical, theoretical and political dimensions of learning and teaching on women and gender. The books in this series Teaching with Gender contain teaching material, reflections on feminist pedagogies and practical discussions about the development of gender-sensitive curricula in specific fields. All books address the crucial aspects of education in Europe today: increasing international mobility, the growing importance of interdisciplinarity and the many practices of life-long learning and training that take place outside the traditional programmes of higher education. These books will be indispensable tools for educators who take seriously the challenge of teach- Lesko Vesna Edited by ing with gender. (For titles see inside cover.) Teaching Gender in Social Work The need for a book on teaching gender in social work arises from the fact that social work education often fails to incorporate gender, even though most of the people that use social work services are women, a majority of social workers are women, and women have had throughout history a significant role in the establishment of social work.

  • The Desire to Be Free: Marica Nadlišek Bartol and the Young Intelligentsia at the Turn of the 20Th Century
IRENA SELIŠNIK – MARTA VERGINELLA Filozofski fakultet, Ljubljana, Slovenija Izvorni znanstveni članak UDK 930.85(497.4)“189/190“ 929 Bartol-Nadlišek, M. The Desire to be Free: Marica Nadlišek Bartol and the Young Intelligentsia at the Turn of the 20th Century This article discusses the social network surrounding the first editor of the Sloveni- an women’s journal, Slovenka (1897-1902). The authors present the people who created Slovenka and the common interests that connected them. To establish this network, the correspondence to the editorial board of Slovenka and the correspon- dence of its editor, Marica Nadlišek, were analysed. In addition to these archival materials, the available correspondence of Slovenka’s contributors was examined. In this research, the emancipatory strategies used by the leading Slovenian women of the first of wave feminism in the Slovenian territory can be recognised. Further- more, the research highlights aspects of the emotional culture and the concept of friendship that developed around the young and progressive part of Slovenian intelligentsia at the turn of the 20th century. Keywords: journal Slovenka, Slovenian inteligentsia, feminism, correspon- dence of Marica Nadlišek, Russophile ideas Introduction The entrance of women into the public sphere in the Habsburg monarchy went (as was characteristic for the then on-going processes all over Europe) hand in hand with the development of national movements and revolutions in 1848. National movements encouraged the development of women’s movement by emphasising the crucial role of women as protectors of culture and language. In the process of the expansion of national values, women gained prominent roles as mothers and educa- tors of their offspring, which was especially characteristic for German and also for Slovenian nationalism.

CEU eTD Collection i Abstract This thesis explores the ideas and, to a limited extent, practices of emancipation of rural women in the interwar Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes / Yugoslavia that preceded the radical empowerment of women that took place with the establishment with socialist Yugoslavia in 1946. The thesis is a comparative discourse analysis of the ways two different periodicals edited and published by women constructed the desirable roles of rural women in the 1930s. The periodicals in question are: Seljanka: list za prosvećivanje žena na selu (1933-1935) [Peasant Woman: Periodical for Enlightenment of Women in the Countryside], the only periodical in interwar Yugoslavia published specifically for rural women, and Žena danas (1936-1940) [Woman Today], a periodical that had a strong feminist, pacifist and antifascist stand with a hidden communist agenda.

  • Participation, Role and Position of Slovenian Women in the World War II Resistance Movement
«Qualestoria» n. 2, dicembre 2015 Participation, Role and Position of Slovenian Women in the World War II Resistance Movement di Vida Deželak Barič Abstract ‒ Participation, Role and Position of Slovenian Women in the World War II Resistance Movement The following discussion focuses on the mass participation of women in the resistance move- ment during the occupation of Slovenia (1941-1945) and compares it with the women’s position in the anti-communist and collaborationist political camp in the context of the civil war, which took place in certain areas of Slovenian territory during the occupation. It analyses the aspects of the liberation struggle activities which women took part in. These activities included the activist fieldwork in the context of various organisations (Liberation Front of the Slovenian Nation, Slovenian Anti-fascist Women’s Association – a special women’s organisation), inclu- sion of women in the Partisan armed formations, intelligence operations, as well as cultural and educational activities. The discussion underlines the monopoly of the Communist Party, the transmissive role of the resistance organisation in the eyes of the communists, problems with the implementation of the equal position of women in the men’s world, as well as fatalities among women. Key words: Slovenia, resistance, women, partisan women, emancipation Parole chiave: Slovenia, resistenza, donne, donne partigiane, emancipazione The resistance and politicisation of women World War II had a substantial impact on the traditional gender roles in Slovenia. Under the influence of the dramatic situation brought about by the occupation in April 1941 and the functioning of the ideological mechanisms, at that time women in fact took a large step and entered the public space which had until then been in the almost exclu sive domain of the male half of the society however, this does not mean they were not present in the public sphere.
