Winterville 2021, Clapham Common WINTERVILLE 2021, CLAPHAM COMMON • Event Dates: 18th November – 23rd December 2021 • Venue: Clapham Common Funfair Site • Maximum Capacity: 4,999 persons • Age Restrictions: The event is open to all ages WINTERVILLE 2021 EVENT OVERVIEW • Winterville is a community taking place on the hardstanding funfair site to the West side of Clapham Common with a maximum capacity of 4,999, • The event showcases music, films, plays, interactive games, food, drink and markets • Free entry and discounts for neighbours • Job opportunities for the local community, with roles including: o Performers o Traders o Sound & Lighting engineers o Event Staff o Construction An alternative destination for the festive season - a community and family focused friendly cultural hub Maximum 4,999 patrons on site at bringing together great any point entertainment, food and drink. This money was spent on projects such as: more bins, replacing perimeter fencing, restoring the paddling pool, upgrading Battersea Rise Playground. Tickets & Discounts • Wandsworth residents accounted for 22% of all advance tickets sold. • In 2018, 35% of all advance tickets sold were taken up by Lambeth or Wandsworth residents. Some 5,550 free or discounted tickets to various events and attractions were taken up by local residents, which represented 20% of all sales. We sold 2,610 regular Local Resident Discounts and 2,189 Early Bird Discounts, which represented 35% of all ice rink tickets. Local residents and employees of local businesses enjoyed a 50% discount on Ice Rink tickets during the week before 7pm and a 10% discount at all other times. Entertainment 4 All • Portion of tickets were put aside for low income families via the community housing schemes, children's centres and youth groups. Over 60 local schools over Lambeth and Wandsworth where offered special discounts on the ice rink and the family theatre show. Raffle prizes were donated to 8 local schools. Charities & Charitable organisations • There were 3 official charity partners in 2018, Royal Trinity Hospice, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Shelter. Free fundraising prizes were given to 9 local charities. WINTERVILLE 2021 COMMUNITY BENEFITS • Free Entry - Winterville will be free to all SW4, SW11 and SW12 residents at all times, except after 5pm Fridays and Saturdays. • Local Resident Tickets - Unlimited amount of reduced priced tickets will be available for local residents for Spiegeltent performances on a first-come, first serve basis. • Entertainment 4 All – Due to it’s success in 2018, the Entertainment 4 All Scheme will be offered once again for cinema, crazy golf, ice curling and axe throwing. This enables low income families within Wandsworth and Lambeth to access free tickets to these activities. • Ice Curling – Wandsworth and Lambeth residents and business employees can enjoy a 50% discount on ice curling sessions during the week until 7pm. • School Discounts – Schools within Wandsworth and Lambeth will be offered special discounts for ice curling and the family Christmas show. Raffle prizes will also be available for school fayres and events. • Local Work Experience – Working with Wandsworth and Lambeth colleges to create work experiences for students. • Charity Partners – Organisers will be appointing official charity partners from the local area. • Local Charities – Free tickets and other benefits will be extended to local charities within Wandsworth and Lambeth. 2021 TEAM The Winterville 2021 promoters have engaged a professional production management team to oversee the delivery of the events, this will be the same management team who produced Winterville in 2018. With a keen focus on community impact management, the production ADD BORING team will take on board the debrief reports and information that has been made available from the delivery of the 2017 and 2018 events and EVENT PICS will look to improve upon these for 2021. The production team are well-versed in the delivery of largescale, metropolitan music events and have a trusted track record in delivering safe, enjoyable events including: • British Summer Time concert series 2013 – present, Hyde Park, London (65,000 capacity) • All Points East concert series 2018 – present, Victoria Park, East London (40,000 capacity) • Field Day 2010 – 2017, Victoria Park, East London (35,000 capacity) • Mighty Hoopla 2017 – Victoria Park, East London (7000 capacity) • Mighty Hoopla & Cross The Tracks 2019 – present , Brockwell Park, South London (20,000 capacity) • Steel Yard 2017, Victoria Park, East London (15,000 capacity) • Winterville 2018, Clapham Common, South London (5,000 capacity) • Common People 2015 – 2017, Oxford + Southampton (15,000 capacity) • Corona Sunsets 2014 – 2017, Greenwich Peninsula (5,500 capacity) • Invictus Games Ceremonies 2014, QEOP Stratford (26,500 capacity) NEW SITE 2021 EVENT KEY CHANGES LOCATION SINCE WINTERVILLE 2018 Location • The event has moved to the hardstanding site on the West side of the Common. Content • Content has been reduced to create a more focused event with fewer sound systems and less funfair rides than Winterville 2018 • Same quality event • Better space utilisation Access to the Common for non-event goers • The path running through the event site from the bandstand will remain open 24hrs a day except for peak times (Fri night and Sat & Sun from lunchtime) • All other paths surrounding the event site will be remain unaffected Air Quality & Environment • Organisers are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of the event and will be switchng to Green Bio- diesel in all machinery at the event. Biofuel is a hydrogenated vegetable oil that emits 35% less NOx and up to 85% less particulates than traditional diesel. • At Winterville 2018. 90% of customers used public transport walked or cycled to the event – we wish to continue this and the new location of the event is well served by public transport networks, and we will be installing additional bike racks for cyclists. Operating Dates • The event duration has been reduced to 36 days (39 in 2018). CROSS PATHS The cross path to the bandstand will remain open 24 hours a day, except for peak times (expected to be Friday nights, Saturday & Sunday from lunchtime. The pathways surrounding the site will remain open 24 hours a day.     Draft CHAPTER 5 Parks and Open Spaces Before it became intensively developed for housing, the parish of Battersea was mostly open agricultural land governed by differing types of tenure (Ill. 5.1). Perhaps a third of it was in some form of common tenure. It was from these areas that the larger public open spaces described in this chapter— Battersea Park, Clapham Common and Wandsworth Common—have come down in the guise familiar today. The two commons, as their names imply, occupied common land, governed by laws defining the rights of the lords of the manor and copyholders or commoners. Mainly they provided rough grazing and were exploited for brushwood and gravel. In addition there was the large expanse known as Battersea Common Field or Fields, located on more fertile ground closer to the river and subject to flooding. This was not full common land in the same sense as the two commons. It was owned freehold by the lord of the manor, leased or tenanted largely in strips, and intensively cultivated for arable farming or market gardening. ‘Lammas rights’ of turning out livestock over the fields for certain weeks of the year were held by local parishioners, while entertainment venues had become an established feature of its riverside sector by 1800. It was here that Battersea Park was created. The perceived public interest in both types of tenure led eventually to the emergence of Battersea’s three great open spaces. But they evolved in different ways. Battersea Park came into being by a series of accidents.
