Rushing: Passing: Receiving: Defense: The 96th season of Racer Football will be a one of a kind when the Racers take the field for the season that was supposed to be played in the fall of 2020, but occurs in the spring of 2021. The and it’s proud history of collegiate football plays its 73rd season in the OVC. It all begins Sunday when the UT Martin Skyhawks make a visit to Murray State’s Roy Stewart Stadium.

When foot meets leather Sunday at 2p, it will mark the first Racer football game in the Coach Dean Hood era, 443 days since he was hired on Dec. 13, 2019. It will have been 463 days since the Racers’ last game, which was on Nov. 23, 2019 at SEMO and the Racers’ play their first game at home in 470 days, since they hosted Austin Peay on Nov. 16, 2019. Yes, it has been too long, we’ve been through so much. But finally it’s time for Racer football to take the field again. LaMartez Brooks Scotty Humpich RUNNIN’ WITH THE RACERS PODCAST

Carol Robertson was the first student jockey. A beautiful gray mare, Violet Cactus” was buried just inside the northwest wall at Stewart Stadium after her death. A plaque on the stadium wall tells the story of the first Racer 1. Since 1985, each horse performing at Racer Football has held the name of Racer 1.

The 2020-21 school year is the second for the latest Racer 1. “Vegas”, is a former Quarter Horse competitor and an excellent competitive jumper. He’s the first Racer 1 bred and born on the Murray State Farm. Emily Helmick is this year’s student jockey. She’s a Pre-Vet major and a junior from St. Charles, Missouri.

Racer Athletics wants to thank the Hutson School of Agriculture, Dr. Tony Brannon, Dr. Shea Porr and The Murray Bank for their love, leadership and support of the Racer 1 program.

The Racers were 11-1 and won the OVC at 8-0 and ran “I never will forget, David McCann was in the back of the bus and he stands up the table again in 1996 to win the OVC in back-to-back seasons. MSU was 22-3 and starts banging on the roof of the bus,” Nutt said. “He’s yelling ‘this is football overall in Nutt’s last two seasons. weather right here fellas!’ I was thinking, boy it’s going to be cold today, I hope our guys get out of the dressing room and we’re playing at . But Nutt points to the staff that worked with him, including Kim Dameron, Mark when I heard McCann firing up the team on the bus the way he did, I told myself, Hutson, Fred Jones, Mike Markuson, Larry McClain, Danny Nutt and Charlie Wiles. oh these boys are gonna come to play today!” “We were very close and our players felt that,” Nutt said. “We noticed early on that we (the team) were a bunch of individuals.
