WEEK TWO NOTES BIG GAME Transfer Michael Birdsong put his name into the Tennessee Tech re- cord book against Austin Peay as he threw for four touchdowns, tying himself for second at Tech in single-game TD passes. Birdsong is tied with Tre Lamb (who accomplished the feat twice) and Robert Craft. Tech Hall-of-Famer Grant Swallows owns the record with five. HOMECOMING Senior Maleek Hall put on a defensive clinic during the win over Austin Peay. While he was only officially credited with two tackles, the all-OVC preseason teamer was all over the field, collecting a sack and a pass break-up. He was also involved on a forced fumble following a hit on APSU quarterback Tommy Hays. It was only fitting -- Hall hails from Clarksville. DEFENSIVE STAND The Golden Eagles put on a solid defensive effort against the Gov- ernors, holding Austin Peay to 243 total yards -- 86 rushing and 157 passing. The Govs were held to just 10 first downs and were 0-for-0 in the red zone. APSU’s lone touchdown came on a long pass. Tech was also able to force six fumbles and pick off a pass to harass the Govs. Tech also held APSU to an 0-for-2 effort on 4th down. WEEKLY HONOR CONTROLLING THE CLOCK One of Tech’s keys to success against the Governors was dominating Michael Birdsong was named the Ohio possession time. MOVING THE BALL PERFECT NIGHT The Golden Eagles collected 24 first downs in the win over Austin Peay on 69 total plays. Not too shabby, considering Tech was able After a rough game against Wofford, to move the ball an average of 7.1 yards per play. FIELD POSITION Another key to success for Tech came on the field position battle. The Golden Eagles averaged their start at their own 45, their own 49 in the second half alone and averaging at the APSU 31 in the fourth quarter. Tech had the Govs pinned back, starting on average on their own 22, and at their 17 in the first quarter.

PRESEASON NOTES A LOT OF NEW FACES As the 2016 camp started, new Tennessee Tech head coach Marcus Satterfield noted that 37 players were taking the field for the first time, including signees, redshirts and transfers. In fact, the Golden Eagles don’t look much like the team that took the field last in November 2015 just before previous head coach . But with new direction under Satterfield and his staff, Tech is aiming high as the Golden Eagles enter 2016.
