Apostolic Lines of Succession-10-2018
Apostolic Lines of Succession for ++Michael David Callahan, DD, OCR, OCarm. The Catholic Church in America “Have you an apostolic succession? Unfold the line of your bishops.” Tertullian, 3rd century A.D. A special visible expression of Apostolic Succession is given in the consecration/ ordination of a bishop through the laying on of hands by other bishops who have, themselves, been ordained in the same manner through a succession of bishops leading back to the apostles of Jesus. The role of the bishop must always be understood within the context of the authentic handing on of the faith from one generation to the next generation of the whole Church, beginning with the Christian community of the time of the Apostles. Thus, as the Church is the continuation of the apostolic community, so the bishops are the continuation of the ministry of the college of the apostles of Jesus within that apostolic community. It is essentially collegial rather than monarchical. This tradition is affirmed in the teaching ministry of Church leadership, and authentically celebrated in the sacraments, with particular attention to the sacrament of holy orders (ordination) and the laying on of hands. Apostolic Succession is the belief of Catholic Christians that the bishops are successors of the original apostles of Jesus. This is understood as the bishops being ordained into the episcopal collegium or “sacramental order.” As bishops are by tradition consecrated by at least three other bishops, the actual number of lists of succession can become quite substantial. Listed here are three lines of succession: 1. From Saints Paul and Linus Succession through Archbishop Baladad 2. -

031-San Crisogono
(031/19) San Crisogono San Crisogono is a 12th century parish, titular and conventual church, and a minor basilica in rione Trastevere. The dedication is to the martyr St Chrysogonus. The complex includes remains of a 4th century church edifice. [1] The Church of San Crisogono, alongside the Churches of Santa Cecilia and of Santa Maria in Trestevere, is one of the most important religious centers in the district extending to the other side of the River Tiber. [g] History Titulus Its origins date back to the fourth century and are probably closely related to the Roman domus in which San Crisogono was taken prisoner before his martyrdom, which occurred in 303 during the persecution of Diocletian. The first documentary reference to the church is as one of the tituli, with its priest in the list of signatories to the acts of the Roman synod in 499. The tituli were the original parish churches of the city, and this one has remained a parish church from then to the present day. The church was then known as the Titulus Chrysogoni. This has traditionally been taken to refer to an obscure martyr called St Chrysogonus, who is thought to have been martyred at the start of the 4th century. However, the Roman church might have been founded by a different benefactor called Chrysogonus, with the link to the saint being made later when his relics were enshrined here (perhaps at the start of the 5th century). The saint became popular enough in Rome for his name to be inserted into the Roman Canon of the Mass, where it remains. -

82 and Cardinal Francesco Maria Del Monte. Borromeo Would Later Open His Own Academy in Milan, in Addition to a Picture Gallery
and Cardinal Francesco Maria del Monte. 15 Borromeo would later open his own Academy in Milan, in addition to a picture gallery with works donated from the Cardinal’s own collection. 16 Del Monte (1549-1626), too, seems to have had direct contact with Neri and the Oratorians. In his seminal two-volume study on the cardinal, Zygmunt Wa źbi ński suggested that Del Monte was introduced to the Oratorian circle shortly after his arrival in Rome by Cardinal Ferdinando de’ Medici. 17 This proposal is likely, but Del Monte would have other opportunities to meet and form a relationship with the Oratorians through colleagues and associates already linked with the Oratorian founder and his brethren. Del Monte was not only closely linked to Paleotti, but also Cardinal Federico Borromeo, and the Oratorian-Cardinals Baronio and Tarugi. Cardinal Agostino Valier (1531-1606) was a close friend of both Carlo and Federico Borromeo. He was a member of Carlo’s Accademia delle Notti Vaticane in Rome, and would later write the saint’s biography, Vita e morte di S. Carlo Borromeo in 15 Alberti, Origine , dedicatory letter to Borromeo. 16 See Borromeo, Musaeum ; Quint, Cardinal Federico Borromeo as a Patron ; Jones, Federico Borromeo and the Ambrosiana . Borromeo’s Accademia del Disegno, Milan was officially founded in 1620, and the Pinacoteca two years earlier. Both institutions functioned to teach young artists how to appropriately and effectively paint sacred imagery. 17 Wa źbi ński, Il Cardinale Francesco Maria Del Monte, vol. 1, 67. Del Monte, in fact, received his ordination in the Oratorian church of Santa Maria in Vallicella. -
The Valnerina Geological Park
THE VALNERINA GEOLOGICAL PARK A guide to the exploration Notes: Stratigraphy, Tectonics, Geomorphology, Quaternary Geology, Georesources. The Umbria - Marche Apennines, for stratigraphic and tectonic characters, is one of the most studied and visited regions by geologists of all world. Schools and universities bring their students for tracking exercises or follow guided, using this area as a real gym. The Valnerina is an area of particular value, which collects a multiplicity of sites of scientific interest, representative of the main topics of geology, all fairly easy to reach, thanks to the extension of the network of roads and trails. A territory that for these reasons fully deserves the connotation of geological park. In this guide, we provide a brief description of the area and of the very interesting sites (geosites), organized into 10 thematic itineraries. The guide is addressed to teachers who want to lead their students to explore this territory, using it as an open-air laboratory. At the same time, the guide can be used by geologists and geology enthusiasts, as the basis for the organization of geotourist excursions. The visit will enrich to the historical-cultural heritage and natural beauty of this region and the excellent quality of the reception. The "reading tips" provided for each theme, and the bibliography, placed at the end of the volume, can compensate for the schematic treatise due to scarcity of space. Have a nice trip, Massimiliano Barchi and Fausto Pazzaglia 1 GEOGRAPHIC and GEOMORPHOLOGIC FRAMEWORK The Valnerina Geological Park (southeastern Umbria), spreads between the Spoleto and the Sibillini Mountains(fig. 1). -

Carlos Borromeo. Retórica neolatina. Teoría de la predicación. Agostino Valier’s Rethorica Ecclesiastica (1574-1583) and Cardinal Charles Borromeo ABSTRACT It is quite usual to find references to a group of Neo-Latin treatises on preaching called ‘borromean rhetorics’, the name taken from a couple of widely known studies by Marc Fumaroli. After a short state- of-the-art introduction, this article describes Agostino Valier’s Rhetorica in comparison to Charles Borromeus’ Instructiones prædicatoris verbi Dei . As a conclusion, the author finds that the most traceable influence on Valier is the original order to have the treatise written and published, something that Valier himself accomplishes somehow reluctantly. -
