MONDAY, APRIL 29 THROUGH WEDNESDAY, MAY 1 ON WXXI-TV

Spring is one of nature’s greatest performances – a time of rebirth, renewed energy, and dramatic transformations. For three consecutive nights Nature: American Spring LIVE presents the change from winter to spring in real time from iconic locations across America. From the Rockies to the Everglades, from inner-city parks to remote wilderness preserves, the series includes a mix of live and pre-taped footage highlighting some of the most pivotal events in nature’s calendar. “Nature throws a party every year, and it’s called spring. It is the most active time in the natural world for plants and animals, from birth and rebirth to migrations to pollination,” said Nature executive producer Fred Kaufman, who joined WXXI at the Little Theatre last month along with filmmaker Ann Johnson Prum to share their Nature is a production of THIRTEEN PRODUCTIONS favorite Nature clips, behind the scene stories, LLC for WNET and PBS. Our goal was to remind policymakers about the important work public media does in our communities and to remind Congress that PBS is rated #1 in public trust among nationally known institutions. Federal funding for public media is only a small piece of the final federal budget, less than 0.01%, but without it, WXXI and PBS stations across the country would not be able to provide viewers like you the same high quality programs and services that we do today. We had a very favorable reception from our local Representatives from both sides of the aisle, but we still need your help (especially since the President’s budget is expected to again try to zero-out our federal funding). You can participate in this effort by sharing why public media is important to you. Please visit Protect My Public Media’s website at: protectmypublicmedia.org and submit your own testimonial. Your support – through advocacy and membership – enables us to educate, inspire, and engage our community through in-depth news reporting, meaningful educational services, and quality programming. That includes local productions that spotlight people and places in our region. That’s why I’m so proud to share the news that Opioids from Inside, a documentary that WXXI served as co-producer on, has been nominated for four New York and Turn the Page, Election Day, and Brewed in New York, of which WXXI served as the presenting station, have received a total of nine nominations. Altogether, WXXI and our local partners received 13 New York Emmy nominations. That’s something to be excited about! As we’ve said many times, thanks for your support, which makes it all possible.

Happy Spring!

Norm Silverstein [email protected] | @normWXXI 3 Q&A with a WXXI CORPORATE SPONSOR With 15 years of industry experience, Jack McGowan in 2004 opened TWO POINT CAPITAL MANAGEMENT, an investment management frm using a proprietary discipline to give clients confdence that their investments will work across good times, and bad. Jack says, “Our tagline, ‘Live a Richer Life,’ reflects our wishes for our clients, our community, and our own team to appreciate and embrace a life of purpose, passion, and joy.” WXXI sits down with Jack to learn more about trends in investing.

Q. What’s the Two Point Investment Approach? We assess companies’ long-term performance over two dimensions (Quality+Value™), construct portfolios of individual stocks and bonds tailored to the risk-and return preferences of each client, and proactively manage those portfolios. Q. Thoughts on cryptocurrency? The rate at which hundreds of millions of dollars of cryptocurrency is vanishing, “lost,” or stolen EVENTS indicates that the underlying blockchain technology—though powerful—isn’t yet suitable as the basis for a currency. Q. How is artificial intelligence (AI) impacting private wealth management? Some frms are using it, but AI in its current state cannot perform the complicated reasoning that sophisticated securities investors bring to bear. Q. What are the most noticeable shift in trends related to retirement goal priorities? People are more focused on leading active lives, and pursuing new interests. Q. Tips on successful charitable planning? Due diligence based on what matters to you is key—start with an issue dear to your heart, and let your passion guide your research into relevant organizations. Consider volunteering or serving frst. Review your investments and fnances before any measurable increase in giving. Remember, gifting appreciated stock can help you give and save on taxes at the same time.
