1. Devarim 34:1-12 And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto mount 1 א לַעַיַּו הֶשֹׁמ תֹבְרַעֵמ ,בָאוֹמ לֶא - ַה ר ,וֹבְ נ ֹר שׁא פַּ ה סִ גְּ ,הָ שֲׁ א רֶ רֶ שֲׁ א ,הָ גְּ סִ פַּ ה שׁא ֹר ,וֹבְ נ ר Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And לַע - יֵנְפּ ;וֹחֵרְי וּהֵאְרַיַּו הָוהְי תֶא - לָכּ - ץֶרָאָה תֶא - ,דָעְלִגַּה דַע - the LORD showed him all the land, even Gilead as far as .ןָדּ Dan;

,and all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh 2 ב ,תֵאְו לָכּ - ,יִלָתְּפַנ תֶאְו - ץֶרֶא ,םִיַרְפֶא ;הֶשַּׁנְמוּ תֵאְו לָכּ - ץֶרֶא ;and all the land of Judah as far as the hinder sea ,הָדוּהְי דַע םָיַּה .ןוֹרֲחַאָה

and the South, and the Plain, even the valley of Jericho the 3 ג תֶאְו - ,בֶגֶנַּה תֶאְו - רָכִּכַּה תַעְקִבּ וֹחֵרְי ריִע םיִרָמְתַּה -- דַע - .city of palm-trees, as far as Zoar עֹצ .רַ

And the LORD said unto him: 'This is the land which I 4 ד רֶמאֹיַּו הָוהְי ,ויָלֵא תאֹז ץֶרָאָה רֶשֲׁא יִתְּעַבְּשִׁנ םָהָרְבַאְל םָהָרְבַאְל יִתְּעַבְּשִׁנ רֶשֲׁא ץֶרָאָה תאֹז ,ויָלֵא הָוהְי רֶמאֹיַּו swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying: I יְל קָחְצִ בֹקֲעַיְלוּ ,רֹמאֵל ,ֲעְרַזְל ;הָנֶּנְתֶּא יִתיִאְרֶה ,יֶניֵעְב ,יֶניֵעְב יִתיִאְרֶה ;הָנֶּנְתֶּא ,ֲעְרַזְל ,רֹמאֵל בֹקֲעַיְלוּ קָחְצִ יְל will give it unto thy seed; I have caused thee to see it with thine הָמָּשְׁו אֹל .רֹבֲעַת eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.'

So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of 5 ה תָמָיַּו םָשׁ הֶשֹׁמ דֶבֶע - ְי וה ָ ,ה אְ בּ ֶ ֶ ר ץ אוֹמ ָ ב -- לַע - יִפּ .הָוהְי Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

And he was buried in the valley in the land of Moab over 6 ו ַו ִיּ ְק ֹבּר ֹאתוֹ ַב ַגּי ְבּ ֶא ֶרץ מוֹ ָאב, מוּל ֵבּית ְפּעוֹר; ְולֹא- עַדָי שׁיִא שׁיִא עַדָי against Beth-peor; and no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto תֶא - ,וֹתָרֻבְק דַע םוֹיַּה ֶזַּה .ה this day.

And Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he 7 ז מוּ ֹ ֶ שׁ ,ה ֶ בּ ן - הָאֵמ םיִרְשֶׂעְ ו הָנָשׁ -- ;וֹתֹמְבּ אֹל - הָתֲהָכ ,וֹניֵע ,וֹניֵע הָתֲהָכ .died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated אֹלְו - סָנ .הֹחֵל

Rabbi Ya’akov Trump 1 And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of 8 ח ַו ִיּ ְבכּוּ ְב ֵני ִי ְשׂ ָר ֵאל ֶאת- הֶשֹׁמ עְ בּ רַ תֹבְ ,בָאוֹמ םיִשְׁשׁ ;םוֹי ;םוֹי םיִשְׁשׁ ,בָאוֹמ תֹבְ רַ עְ בּ הֶשֹׁמ Moab thirty days; so the days of weeping in the mourning for ַו ִיּ ְתּמוּ, ְי ֵמי ְב ִכי ֵא ֶבל ֹמ ֶשׁה. Moses were ended.

;And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom 9 ט ַעֻשׁוֹהיִו ןִבּ - ,ןוּנ לָמ אֵ ַחוּר כָ ח מְ הָ -- יִכּ - ַמָס הֶשֹׁמ תֶא - ,ויָדָי ,ויָדָי for Moses had laid his hands upon him; and the children of ָע ָליו; ַו ִיּ ְשׁ ְמעוּ ֵא ָליו ְבּ ֵני- לֵאָרְשִׂי ,וּשֲׂעַיַּו רֶשֲׁאַכּ הָוִּצ הָוהְי תֶא - Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded ֶשֹׁמ .ה Moses.

And there hath not arisen a prophet since in Israel like 10 י אֹלְו - םָק איִבָנ דוֹע ,לֵאָרְשִׂיְבּ ,הֶשֹׁמְכּ רֶשֲׁא וֹעָדְי ,הָוהְי םיִנָפּ םיִנָפּ ,הָוהְי ;unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face לֶא - נָפּ .םיִ

in all the signs and the wonders, which the LORD sent him 11 אי לָכְל - תֹתֹאָה ,םיִתְפוֹמַּהְו רֶשֲׁא וֹחָלְשׁ ,הָוהְי ,תוֹשֲׂעַל ,תוֹשֲׂעַל ,הָוהְי וֹחָלְשׁ רֶשֲׁא ,םיִתְפוֹמַּהְו תֹתֹאָה ,to do in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh, and to all his servants ץֶרֶאְבּ םִיָרְצִמ -- הֹעְרַפְל לָכְלוּ - ,ויָדָבֲע ְלוּ לָכ - .וֹצְרַא and to all his land;

The Gemara elaborates on the particulars of this baraita: The Master said above that Joshua wrote his own book and eight verses of the Torah. The Gemara comments: This baraita is taught in accordance with the one who says that it was Joshua who wrote the last eight verses in the Torah. This point is subject to a tannaitic dispute, as it is taught in another baraita: “And Moses the servant of the Lord died there” (Deuteronomy 34:5); is it possible that after Moses died, he himself wrote “And Moses died there”? Rather, Moses wrote the entire Torah until this point, and Joshua wrote from this point forward; this is the statement of Rabbi Yehuda. Rabbi Shimon said to him: Is it possible that the Torah scroll was missing a single letter? But it is written: “Take this Torah scroll” (Deuteronomy 31:26), indicating that the Torah was complete as is and that nothing further would be added to it. Rather, until this point the Holy One, Blessed be He, dictated and Moses repeated after Him and wrote the text. From this point forward, with respect to Moses’ death, the Holy One, Blessed be He, dictated and Moses wrote with tears. The fact that the Torah was written by way of dictation can be seen later, as it is stated concerning the writing of the Prophets: “And Baruch said to them: He dictated all these words to me, and I wrote them with ink in the scroll” (Jeremiah 36:18). ןאמכ אלזא אה ר"אד עשוהי רב אבא רמא בר לדיג רמא בר ומש הנ םיקוספ הרותבש דיחי ארוק ןתוא אמיל י"ר( )איה אה "( מל תאאו יי רתשםקס נושב מ דג רראאאר שה רא האז ןמ אלדו ש"רכ וליפא אמית ש"ר ליאוה נתשאו ו נתשא ו :

The Gemara asks: In accordance with whose opinion is that which Rabbi Yehoshua bar Abba says that Rav Giddel says that Rav says: When the Torah is read publicly in the synagogue, one person reads the last eight verses in the Torah, and that section may not be divided between two readers? Shall we say that this is in accordance with the opinion of Rabbi Yehuda and not in accordance with the opinion of Rabbi Shimon, as according to Rabbi Shimon these verses are an integral part of the Torah, written by Moses just Rabbi Ya’akov Trump 2 like the rest? The Gemara answers: Even if you say that this was said in accordance with the opinion of Rabbi Shimon, since they differ from the rest of the Torah in one way, as Moses wrote them with tears, they differ from the rest of the Torah in this way as well, i.e., they may not be divided between two readers.
