There are many reasons for this. Among other things – it saw the pro- duction of three feature films; four young filmmakers were selected to participate in the prestigious Berlinale Talents; an ever-growing number of Montenegrin filmmakers and professionals have been pre- paring exciting projects. • Emancipation in St. Croix; Its Antecedents and Immediate Aftermath
    N. Hall The victor vanquished: emancipation in St. Croix; its antecedents and immediate aftermath In: New West Indian Guide/ Nieuwe West-Indische Gids 58 (1984), no: 1/2, Leiden, 3-36 This PDF-file was downloaded from http://www.kitlv-journals.nl N. A. T. HALL THE VICTOR VANQUISHED EMANCIPATION IN ST. CROIXJ ITS ANTECEDENTS AND IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH INTRODUCTION The slave uprising of 2-3 July 1848 in St. Croix, Danish West Indies, belongs to that splendidly isolated category of Caribbean slave revolts which succeeded if, that is, one defines success in the narrow sense of the legal termination of servitude. The sequence of events can be briefly rehearsed. On the night of Sunday 2 July, signal fires were lit on the estates of western St. Croix, estate bells began to ring and conch shells blown, and by Monday morning, 3 July, some 8000 slaves had converged in front of Frederiksted fort demanding their freedom. In the early hours of Monday morning, the governor general Peter von Scholten, who had only hours before returned from a visit to neighbouring St. Thomas, sum- moned a meeting of his senior advisers in Christiansted (Bass End), the island's capital. Among them was Lt. Capt. Irminger, commander of the Danish West Indian naval station, who urged the use of force, including bombardment from the sea to disperse the insurgents, and the deployment of a detachment of soldiers and marines from his frigate (f)rnen. Von Scholten kept his own counsels. No troops were despatched along the arterial Centreline road and, although he gave Irminger permission to sail around the coast to beleaguered Frederiksted (West End), he went overland himself and arrived in town sometime around 4 p.m.

  • Coastal Tourism in Montenegro – Economic Dynamics, Spatial Developments and Future Perspectives
HRVATSKI GEOGRAFSKI GLASNIK 73/1, 165 – 180 (2011.) UDK 379.8:911.3](497.16) Preliminary communication 911.3:33](497.16) Prethodno priopćenje Coastal Tourism in Montenegro – Economic Dynamics, Spatial Developments and Future Perspectives Matthias Bickert, Daniel Göler, Holger Lehmeier Montenegro seeks its future perspectives in tourism. And there are good reasons for that: The country was considered to be the fastest growing tourism market worldwide in 2007. Notwithstanding a slight decrease during the last years, tourism is still seen as a crucial factor for future economic development. This seems to be a viable option if we consider Montenegro’s natural potential, its beneficial position on the Adriatic coastline and the experience in tourism gained in the many years since the 1970s. These dynamic developments were motivation enough to explore tourism in Montene- gro in a research project with strong empirical evidence, organised as co-operation between Universities from Germany, Albania, Montenegro and Serbia. Our empirical approach included semi-structured, flexible interviews with different types of stakeholders. Since tourism in Montenegro is still almost entirely limited to the coast, we chose three coastal hot-spots in tourism, namely Kotor, Budva and Ulcinj. Our results show that the current development in tourism can surely be considered as progressive and dynamic. But it is also strongly affected by multiple polarisations and divergent trends. There is a need for infrastructural upgrades in the mass tourism sector, which is for the most part a low budget market with very difficult future perspectives. At the same time, there is a small but growing number of very exclusive offers, often seen as the vanguard of Montenegro’s future as an upper class tourists’ destination.

MASTER THESIS The Impact of Gender Equality in Film Festival Management on the Female Representation of Awarded Film Directors Student name: Feline Koelemij Student number: 511856 Supervisor: Dr. Christian Handke Second reader: Ms. Liesbeth de Strooper Master Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication Erasmus University of Rotterdam Master Thesis Date final version: 15 June 2020 The Impact of Gender Equality in Film Festival Management on the Female Representation of Awarded Film Directors Abstract This thesis investigates the gender equality within film festivals management teams and its influence on the female representation of awarded film directors. As a masculine organisational culture create a gender gap, Hofstede’s dimensions, which measure organisational cultures per country, have been used. Both the researched film festival organisations and the awarded film directors show a gender gap, which is persistent in both Europe and North America. The film festivals which have been established earlier, seem to have more female directors and executives. Film festivals with more female employees also have more female directors and executives. All in all, this research did not find a causal relationship between the gender of film festival management teams and the gender of the awarded film festivals. Nonetheless, it did find that certain aspects of the geographical location, and the longitude of existence of a film festival affects the female representation within the director and executives’
