Central Republic, commonly known as CAR, is renowned for its massive Eland Bulls. Although the same species are also found in the Savannahs, the quality of CAR trophies is beyond compare. CAR without a doubt harvests the best quality. Frequently reaching the magical 50" mark, not forgetting that each individual Eland Bull has its own character, that adds to this spectacular trophy. Regardless of the horns size, the most majestic aspect of these Lord Derby Elands is the character with which the old bulls carry their horns. As Eland mature into predominant bulls they broom down their horns, whiling feed and scraping. This brooming of their horns is one of the priceless characteristics that make a 47-48" Eland one magnificent specimen.

Time and Type of Hunt The best time of the year to hunt Eland is from February through mid April. During this period, no specific month is any better than the other. Although hunting Eland is physically demanding because of the long time spent tracking them, our good road networks help to reduce this time. We use 4 WD Toyota Land cruiser. These vehicles work extremely well in the Savannah terrain, again mitigating the physical demand of the hunt. The most impressive aspect of this hunt is the first time you actually spot that massive mature bull. No one would ever guess an Eland could get to be that size. Although this hunt is demanding at times, it is very rewarding once the trophy is on the ground. This Lord Derby Eland Hunt, is arguably the best hunt in Africa.

Available Species Obviously the Lord Derby Eland, is the primary species, but together with this you can combine exceptional trophies like and Yellow Back , which are plentiful. Roan, Central African Savannah Buffalo, Harnessed Bushbuck, Red River Hog, Forest , Lewels , and smaller species like Red Flanked Duiker, Western Duiker, Wayne's Duiker, , , etc.

Area In CAR, our hunting block is called Yassa, which is Block 39. It is surrounded by rivers and streams. The area is situated in the South Central part of Central Africa Republic. It is over 500,000 acres of prime Gardenia and forest, which is perfect habitat for Giant Eland. The Eland movement in this area is abundant and very conducive to securing a great trophy. This area is one of the safest in CAR, in terms of Sudanese elephant poachers, which have been prominent in the North and Central part of CAR. Also this area is no threat from the that have been moving in from .

Professional Hunters Dave Rademeyer and Thierry Labat are the professional hunters in CAR. Together they have more than 7 years experience hunting in the area. Throughout this time they have had a very high success rate on trophies all around, taking numerous bulls over 50". All of our Professional Hunters have the experience, knowledge, and skills to make your hunt a success.

Arrival/Departure When hunting in CAR, the client arrives and departs from Bangui, the capital. The mostly popular Carrier is Air France with direct flights into Bangui, arriving early Thursday morning. These flights depart Paris, Wednesday at 10:30pm. There they will be greeted by a company representative, and assisted through customs. A visa is required to enter the country!

Upon the completion of the hunt, the hunter will be again chartered back to Bangui on the second Thursday after arrival. That evening they connect again to Paris with Air France.

***This is the schedule Air France has had for the last year/ season, however, please be aware of any changes of schedule. If any changes are made, we will advise you of them. However, arrival and departure will still work the same way, just a different day of the week, instead of Thursday, depending on the flight schedule.

Camps On the day that you arrive, it’s a 1 hr 45 min charter to the hunting area; round trip is included in hunt price. All camps are very comfortable and meals and beverages are first class. We continually work to develop a high level of comfort for our clients, so they can enjoy all aspects of the hunt. We believe that this is a very important part of the hunt, especially in CAR, where after a long day's walk and hunt, a comfortable camp helps you enjoy your time, and gets you prepared for the following day.

Useful Info Yellow fever vaccinations are required. We also strongly encourage that you take malaria prophylactics.

***** Once the safari is booked, more extensive and detailed information will be given concerning all aspects of the hunt. Our trained and educated staff have been on these hunts before and will be there to assist you through the entire booking, pre safari, and post safari period. We will be there to answer any additional questions you may have .
