The natonal budget s an embodment of our commtment n makng ths the year of nvestment for our country. One of the man factors that ensured AKP government’s sustaned economc success over the years has been ts focus on fscal dscplne. We upheld ths as a prorty and dd not compromse for any reason. In terms of monetary polcy, we based decson makng on prce stablty and fought the nfl aton war wth a hgh level of determnaton. Ths s how we managed to attan sngle dgt fgures n nfl aton after 36 years. The man pllars of 2017 budget are targets pertanng to growth, employment and nvestment wth an eye on macro economc stablty – an approach whch has already ensured a postve ndcaton as to how the rest of the year wll shape up. Agan, as the Budget mples, there wll hgher publc spendng ths year where we wll see partcular ncentves ntroduced for agrculture, manufacturng, exports and regonal growth. In short, 2017 wll be the year of nvestment. To gve an example, we am to ncrease our nvestments three tmes as much of the annual nfl aton rate. Therefore, nvestment level wll be hgher, ensurng a breath of fresh ar for the Turksh economy. As one mght recall, the world wtnessed a global economc crss n 2008, the aftershocks of whch are stll felt n many ways. Weakenng of global trade, the unexpected decson of Brtan to leave the EU, declne n captal fl ows and surge n global debt rates created pressure on natonal economes, accordngly hamperng ther GDP growth. Whle many economes su ered deeply wth growth rates declnng by an average 2.1 %, Turkey managed to over perform despte many unfortunate events. Ths has made Turkey a safe haven n the eyes of nternatonal nvestors. We have created jobs for more than 7 mln people n the last 9 years. Turkey s now the second hghest job-creatng economy among OECD countres. 2017 wll be a postve year for employment thanks to hgher nvestment through drect publc spendng as well as planned ncentves. As a result of the above, Turkey contnues to enjoy a strong stablty. Developed countres derve strength from and rely on havng strong governments. Snce 2002, Turkey provded great returns for all who nvested n ts economy. The geographcal postonng of Turkey, ts qualfed workforce and strong government that supports the busness world are great ponts of reference for nvestors. 6 FOCUS ON TURKEY MIPIM Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France TURKEY PROGRAMME @MIPIM 2017 14 MARCH, TUESDAY 10.00 Turkey O cal Inauguraton @İstanbul Tent – C14 10.15 İstanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) Press Conference @İstanbul Tent – C14 14.00 – 15.00 Why s Turkey a hot spot for nvestors? @Ruby Room (Palas 5) After a keynote address by Mehmet Özhasek, Mnster of Envronment and Urbansaton of the Republc of Turkey, on the consderable economc growth over the past decade, the panel detals the man drvng forces and the postve e ect of these. The EATL project, Phase I (2002–2007), Phase II (2008–2012) and Phase III (2013–2017) made transport between Europe and Asia a reality. The identification of routes, the prioritization of infrastructure investment projects, the development of a Geographical Information System (GIS) database, the analysis of non-physical obstacles to transport, the comparison study between maritime and inland transport, the organization of numerous national capacity-building workshops on transport facilitation as 3 Report − Phase Links (EATL) Transport Euro-Asian well as the efforts to operationalize those corridors by preparing common time schedules and tariffs, have all helped to lay the foundation for a more efficient Euro-Asian transport network. Phase III gathered 38 countries from Europe and Asia and concluded that road and rail transportation along Euro-Asian corridors is Phase 3 ReportPhase supplementing rather than competing with maritime transport, providing alternative delivery options, especially for high value and time-sensitive cargo, including in the context of growing e-commerce between Europe and Asia. During Phase III of the project, Governments in the EATL region have consistently worked on addressing the physical and non-physical obstacles to international transport on the EATL routes.
