In 1965, Pakistan’s forcible attempt to annex Kashmir was once again defeated when India caught by surprise at Pakistan offensive, responded with extraordinary zeal and turned the tide in a war Pakistan thought it would win. The 1965 Indo – Pak war accounts for most iconic tank battles since world war II. This has given significant lessons to the world in the field of mechanized warfare and Indian Army had already gained the dividends from these lessons in 1971.

Indian Army helps reviving the traditional Quay Martial Arts, a South Asian form of sword fighting, in its endeavor to support old and rich traditions of Kashmir at Sophian, J & K

Indian Army has undertaken Swachch Bharat Abhiyan to highest battlefield. Since Oct 2014, Siachen troops have removed and sent back more than 63 tons of garbage to the Base where it is buried in deep trenches by mechanical means.

A National Integration Tour for students from Leh was organised by Indian Army from 25 Aug to 05 Sep 2017. The aim of the tour was to provide an insight into the rich heritage of the country as well as various developmental and industry initiatives that are underway. Students interacted with Lt Gen , Vice Chief of Army Staff on 01 Sep 2017 during their visit to Delhi.

A tri Service Expedition was organised under the aegis of Blazing Sword Division during Sep 2017. It included 85 km trek from Sapper to Buragaon in West Kameng District followed by 103 km of cycling along NH 229 culminating at Tezpur.

A cultural festival namely ‘YUSMARG FESTIVAL’ was organised by Indian Army at Budgam, J&K in Sep 2017 with an aim of reaching out to people and promoting social harmony. Inter Command Sports Climbing Championship 2017-18 was conducted at Madras Regimental Centre, Wellington from 12 to 14 Sep 2017. The Championship was won by the team of Southern Command.

Golden Key Trekking Expedition was conducted from 04 to 23 Sep 2017. The team covered 154 Km through high altitude terrain passing through heights ranging upto 13000 ft in Kinnaur Valley.

28 Army Rafters created a speed rafting record on Zanskar river in high altitude area of Ladakh by negotiating 160 Km from Padum to Nimu in 10 hours & 10 minutes on 22 Sep 2017.

A trekking expedition to Mt Kang Yatse in Ladakh region was conducted by Tithwal Brigade under the aegis of White Knight Corps with an aim of displaying Indian Army’s commitment to ecological and environment sustenance.

A team of 28 soldiers under the aegis of A desert cycle expedition team under Tripeak Brigade scaled Mt Gangchua (6288M) Ranbankura Division traversed across 47 in Sep 2017. desert villages covering 349 Kms from 04 – 17 Sep 2017 with an aim to inculcate the spirit of adventure among troops.

Veterans’ Outreach App Veterans’ Outreach Mobile App (Android based) was launched in Dec 2016 with an aim to provide a platform for the veteran community to connect directly to the agencies responsible for redressal of their grievances. Mobile app can be downloaded from Google Play Store on mobile. It has had 10710 downloads by the veterans since its launch. features of the App are as follows :-

Baatcheet September 2017 15 NEwS YoU CAN USE CHANGE OF POLICY FOR ALLOTMENT OF DWELLING UNITS : AWHO Existing allottees of Army Welfare Housing Organisation are now allowed to apply for an additional dwelling unit in the same station / project as restriction imposed vide 11(A) of AWHO Master Brochure has been dispensed with. Retired TA Pers who are pension holders for continuous embodied AWHOAWHO service or broken spells of qualifying service are now eligible to apply. Widow quota will be merged into general category after one year from launch of project. However, one percent of dwelling units subject to minimum one DU of each type will be kept reserved, which will be merged one month prior to issue of option letter for specifi c fl oor & parking space to allottees of the project.
