he Chief of Army Staff, General TBipin Rawat accompanied by Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, Army Commander, Northern Command visited Akhnoor Sector in J&K on July 14, 2018. He was briefed by Lt Gen Saranjeet Singh, GOC White Knight Corps, Maj Gen MK Mago, GOC Crossed Swords Division & other Formation Commanders on the operational preparedness, prevailing security situation and actions being undertaken to ensure a robust and effective counter infiltration grid. The COAS also reviewed the measures and Standard Operating Procedures instituted and being followed by the units and formations. He commended the field commanders for ably confronting the challenges posed by the inimical elements and complemented them for their professionalism and selfless commitment. The Army Law College is the second professional college to be established in Pune, by the Indian Army, under the aegis of Army Welfare Education Society, after the Army Institute of Technology. The Law College is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University Army Commnder addressing the audience. and 60 children of serving and retired Army personnel have been granted admission for current Academic Year 2018 -19, based on their score in the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test for Law. The College has been established on a property gifted by Radha Kaliandas Daryanani Charitable Trust and consists of 12 buildings near village Kanhe, on the old Pune-Mumbai highway. Dr Madhushree Joshi will be the first Principal of the College, who is herself a gold medallist from Pune University. ndian Coast Guard conducted Ia bilateral table top exercise on maritime pollution response with Bangladesh Coast Guard at the Regional Headquarters (North East)of the Indian Coast Guard. Bangladesh Coast Guard delegation led by Captain M Ehsanullah Khan, Commanding officer, BCGS Mansoor Ali, called on Inspector General Kuldip Singh Sheoran, Commander Coast Guard Region (NE) . The two-day exercise was conducted in the backdrop of the MoU between India and SACEP (South Asian Cooperation for Environment Protection) approved by the Union Cabinet this year in the month of May. During the exercise a scenario was developed wherein one Bangladesh flag oil tanker collided with an Indian flag vessel resulting into developing a hole in the vessel which led to discharge of huge heavy fuel oil into sea. Officials of both the neighbouring countries participated in brainstorming for formulating actions to prevent the oil reaching shore so that sensitive bio-reserve of Sundarbans could be saved. In addition to the exercise both the sides discussed various common maritime issues and capacity building of Bangladesh Coast Guard through training and expertise sharing on maritime issues. Both the sides have expressed their desire to cooperate with each other in order to jointly tackle the maritime challenges across the mutually shared international maritime boundary line. - PRO Kolkata

he new building of Air Force School Jalahalli was Tinaugurated by Air Marshal SRK Nair, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command at Air Force Station Jalahalli in Bengaluru. The School functioning since 1953-54 has a rich legacy with its alumni doing well in various walks of life. The Air Marshal spearheaded the Project right from its inception stage to its culmination. The building with a builtup area of 5433 square meter has all the requisite security and safety features built into it. ice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawla has been appointed as the next Flag Officer Commanding-in- VChief of the (FOC-in-C, South). He took over from Vice Admiral AR Karve, PVSM, AVSM who superannuated on July 31, 2018. The Admiral is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, who was commissioned in the Navy on January 1, 1982. He is a Navigation & Direction specialist and has commanded five ships in his illustrious career, including the now decommissioned aircraft carrier INS Viraat. His important staff appointments ashore include instructor at National Defence Academy and Senior Instructor (Navy) at the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, Ooty. The officer has also been the Defence Attaché in the Embassy of India at Jakarta, Indonesia where he was instrumental in the signing of the India - Indonesia Defence Agreement in February 2001. He has also been the Flag Officer Commanding . The officer, as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy & Plans), was responsible for the formulation of the Maritime Capability Perspective Plan 2012-27 and the first Maritime Infrastructure Perspective Plan for the Navy besides envisaging the process for 'IN-DRDO Synergy' which has now been institutionalised. The Admiral, as the Director General of Naval Operations oversaw “Op-Rahat”, which involved the evacuation of Indian as well as foreign nationals from war-torn Yemen in April 2015.
