Eyen Dr. Nigel Boyle, Political Studies, Pitzer College Dr. Geoffrey Herrera, Political Studies, Pitzer College A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Political Studies Pitzer College Claremont, California 4 May 2015 2 ABSTRACT This thesis demonstrates the importance of basketball as a form of soft power and a diplomatic asset to better achieve American foreign policy, which is defined and referred to as basketball diplomacy. Basketball diplomacy is also a lens to observe the evolution of American power from 1893 through present day. Basketball connects and permeates foreign cultures and effectively disseminates American influence unlike any other form of soft power, which is most powerfully illustrated by the United States’ basketball relationship with China. American basketball diplomacy will become stronger and connect with more countries with greater influence, and exist without relevant competition, until the likely rise of China in the indefinite future.

Telegraphic Address: HICOM DANZIG 221 HAUT COMMISSAIRE THE HIGH COMMISSIONER SOCIÉTÉ DES NATIONS LEAGUE OF NATIONS LA VILLE LI5RE DE DANTZIG THE FREE CITY OF DANZIG REFERENCE: -/Private and Danzig, November 26th 1954 Confidential Dear Secretary General, President Rauschning has resigned and a new President, without doubt Mr. Greiser, will be elected by the Senate on the 28th instant. It appears that on the 19th instant, the day after the local elections were finished^ Dr. Rauschning wrote to the 8Bnati a long letter stating that he was prepared to return to office if his policy, which be outlined, would be followed. Mr. Rauschning had declared to Mr. Forster that he would only re- tire if and when the Party in power withdrew its confidence and that the lack of confidence must be declared not by the Gauleiter but by the National Socialist parliamentary fraction itself. lir. Rauschning refrained from any action during the electoral campaign but in his letter of the 19th instant he declared that his health was no obstacle to returning to his post, but before doing so the Party would have to declare it- self in accord with his policy. He underlined first the diver- gences with Mr. Forster with regard to economic and financial situation in Danzig, and on matters relating to the conduct of internal affairs. With regard to the financial and economic position the difference with Forster would appear to be that on the one side Forster counted on the continuation of German financial support, and on the other Mr. Rauschning doubted .if this would be possible and held that in any case Danzig should endeavour to solve its difficulties without external help.

New York parley to discuss plight of Jewish refugees | Jerusalem Post http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1192380734448&pagename... New York parley to discuss plight of Jewish refugees michal lando, jerusalem post correspondent , THE JERUSALEM POST Nov. 5, 2007 Delegates from around the world who convened in New York on Sunday for a two-day conference on the rights of Jewish refugees from Arab countries are concerned that despite promises from Israeli government officials, their cause will not be made a priority at the upcoming Annapolis peace summit. The mission of Justice for Jews from Arab Countries (JJAC), which has brought together 40 delegates from 10 countries, is to ensure that any official mention of Palestinian refugees should be accompanied by a similar mention of the nearly one million Jews from Arab countries who were forced to flee in 1948. JJAC is expected to criticize Israeli inaction over the refugee issue, sources told The Jerusalem Post . Israeli prime ministers dating back to Menachem Begin have ensured that this issue would be on the international political agenda. In 1993, former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin said in an interview with the Jerusalem Arabic daily Al-Quds that "when there is a committee that deals with the problem of refugees, we will claim that there are two problems - the problem of the Palestinian refugees and the problem of the Jewish refugees from the Arab countries." The cabinet reiterated its commitment in 2002 and 2003, in decisions calling for efforts to gather information on Jewish property in Arab countries. But several statements in the last few months by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni have JJAC concerned they might not be as committed to the cause as the group had hoped.

NATO as a Value Institution: Do Democracy and Human Rights Matter? The Spanish, Greek and Turkish Cases Georg Agnalt Edell Fall 2019 Master's thesis in Peace and Conflict Studies, Department of Political Science Word count: 24.734 Preface: I wrote this thesis in order to shed some light on a subject that came to fascinate me through my time in college. Are the rules regarding democracy and human rights in NATO just words on a page or do they carry any weight in real life too? As each alliance member have had different political trajectories and histories, I thought that the importance they put into these values should also differ. By focusing on a broader range of cases than other writers have done before me, this topic also enabled me to fill a knowledge-gap, something I put great value in doing. This thesis would not have been possible without the help, love and support of my fellow students, friends and family. A special acknowledgment should also be given to Janne Haaland Matlary, whose guidance and scholarship have been invaluable in writing this thesis. Lastly I would be remiss to not acknowledge my own effort and hard work. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. 2 Table of Contents Abstract:.....................................................................................................................................................5 1.1: Introduction:........................................................................................................................................6 1.2: NATO and cooperation:......................................................................................................................7

  • Oboe Trios: an Annotated Bibliography
Oboe Trios: An Annotated Bibliography by Melissa Sassaman A Research Paper Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Musical Arts Approved November 2014 by the Graduate Supervisory Committee: Martin Schuring, Chair Elizabeth Buck Amy Holbrook Gary Hill ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY December 2014 ABSTRACT This project is a practical annotated bibliography of original works for oboe trio with the specific instrumentation of two oboes and English horn. Presenting descriptions of 116 readily available oboe trios, this project is intended to promote awareness, accessibility, and performance of compositions within this genre. The annotated bibliography focuses exclusively on original, published works for two oboes and English horn. Unpublished works, arrangements, works that are out of print and not available through interlibrary loan, or works that feature slightly altered instrumentation are not included. Entries in this annotated bibliography are listed alphabetically by the last name of the composer. Each entry includes the dates of the composer and a brief biography, followed by the title of the work, composition date, commission, and dedication of the piece. Also included are the names of publishers, the length of the entire piece in minutes and seconds, and an incipit of the first one to eight measures for each movement of the work. In addition to providing a comprehensive and detailed bibliography of oboe trios, this document traces the history of the oboe trio and includes biographical sketches of each composer cited, allowing readers to place the genre of oboe trios and each individual composition into its historical context. Four appendices at the end include a list of trios arranged alphabetically by composer’s last name, chronologically by the date of composition, and by country of origin and a list of publications of Ludwig van Beethoven's oboe trios from the 1940s and earlier.
