In the exclusive, high-tech oriented showroom, guests can experience the fascination of McLaren up close from 24th May 2012. In addition to the presentation of the first in a range of groundbreaking McLaren sports car - the McLaren MP4-12C - first customer vehicles are handed over to their new owners at the opening event. Furthermore, an original Formula One™ vehicle driven by Niki Lauda in 1982 will be on display, a reference to Austria’s long and glorious racing history with McLaren. The Denzel Group had been appointed to represent the brand in Austria in November 2011, when the MP4-12C was first introduced to Viennese customers at an exclusive viewing in Metastadt. “As a traditional sports car competence centre DENZEL is looking forward to representing the new sports car brand McLaren, not only in Austria, but also in the neighbouring Eastern European countries”, says Alfred Stadler, Chief Executive Officer of the Wolfgang Denzel Auto AG. “The new showroom is more than just the representation of a brand“, says Michael Röck, Managing Director of McLaren Vienna. -

F1 People – Niki Lauda This is the second episode of the second series of F1 People, a set of shows from Sidepodcast that chronicle the lives of the important people involved in the sport we love. Yesterday we looked at Colin Chapman, and today we’re going to focus on Niki Lauda. Andreas Nikolaus Lauda was born on 22nd February 1949 in Vienna, Austria. His family were not impressed with his desires to become a racing driver, but despite their disapproval, he took up the career. He started in the very low Formulas, and moved up the ranks to racing Porsche sports cars. Then his career hit a plateau, and to move onwards, Lauda took out a sizeable bank loan to buy an F2 drive with the then‐new March team. He drove for them for one year in 1971, was promoted to F1 in 1972, and drove in both formulas that year. Lauda’s skills were heralded by the March team, but they were not very successful at that time within F1. Lauda took out yet another bank loan to get into BRM the next year. Unfortunately, this was another team struggling, but when team mate Clay Regazzoni transferred to Ferrari, he spoke highly enough of Lauda that the red team signed him up as well. The Ferrari team were on their way back up in 1974, and Lauda fitted in perfectly by taking the second step on the podium on his debut race. His first victory was three races later. 1975 saw his first World Championship, and 1976 appeared to be heading the same way. -

The brainchild of two men, Raymond Mays and Peter Berthon, British Racing Motors or BRM became what was effectively seen as the British national Formula 1 outfit in the post-War era. BRM arrived on the Grand Prix scene with one of the most ambitious Grand Prix car designs of all time. As the dust settled in 1947, Mays and Berthon planned to build an outstanding Grand Prix machine to take on the likes of Alfa Romeo and Mercedes-Benz. The Orange Times Bruce McLaren Trust June / July 2014, Issue #2 Farewell Sir Jack 1926 - 2014 Along with the motorsport fraternity worldwide I was extremely saddened to th hear of Sir Jack’s recent passing on the 19 May. The McLaren family and Jack have shared a wonderful life-long friendship, starting with watching his early racing days in New Zealand, then Pop McLaren purchasing the Bobtail Cooper from Jack after the NZ summer racing season of 1957. For the following season of 1958, Jack made the McLaren Service Station in Remuera his base and brought the second Cooper with him from the UK for Bruce to drive in the NZIGP which culminated in Bruce being awarded the Celebrating 50 Years of “Driver to Europe”. Jack became his mentor and close friend and by 1959 McLaren Racing Bruce joined him as teammate for the Cooper Racing Team. The rest, as we say, is history but the friendship lived on and the BM Trust Following on from their Tasman Series was delighted to host Jack in New Zealand for a week of motorsport memories success, the fledgling BMMR Team set about in 2003 with Jack requesting that the priority of the trip was to be a visit to their very first sports car race with the Zerex see his “NZ Mum” Ruth McLaren, who, by then, was a sprightly 97 years old. th Special – on April 11 1964 at Oulton Park and I shared a very special hour with the two of them together and the love and this was a DNF/oil pressure. -

Well, we have put our own spin on the ‘www’ and come up with the Where What When of Porsche milestones. This is a brief look at some of the significant milestones in Porsche’s history, because if we had to get really serious about it, we could fill a book. You may have forgotten about some of these milestones, or maybe you didn’t know about them at all, but at the end of the day we hope that you enjoy travelling back in time and www.porscheroadandrace.com rediscovering what we have found. So, read on to find out more of what ‘www’ means in the world of Porsche! 1931 On 25 April, the company ‘Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung, Konstruktion und Beratung für Motoren- und Fahrzeugbau’ (Design and Consultancy Company for Engine and Vehicle Construction) was registered in Stuttgart by Ferdinand Porsche. Executive partners included Dr. Anton Piëch and Adolf Rosenberger. The famous 356 Roadster ‘Number One’ – the car that started it all 1948 Design drawings for Porsche Type 356 ‘Number One’ were completed on 6 January 1948.
