The origin of the mikvah goes back to transportation to services. The service is thousands of years ago in Biblical times. The word mikvah is Hebrew for a available for the 7:30 p.m. services only "gathering" ofmayim chayim, or "living water." After our arranged for Friday. trip to the mikvah, we realized there are many reasons that one may choose to go to a mikvah other than the usual ones.

We learned that women may go to a mikvah right before the high holi days, before giving birth, after having a baby, before getting married, after get ting a cancer diagnosis, going into remission from cancer, and after getting a divorce. There are many different prayers and blessings to say for different occasions. The mikvah is a symbol of spiritual cleansing, transformation and renewal. The mikvah represents change-from single person to married, from non-Jew to Jew, from unhealthy to healthy, from unkosher to kosher, etc.
