We begin with Mark Harelik’s The Immigrant, based on the life of Harelik’s grandfather, a Russian Jew who arrives in Texas in 1909. June 3, 2018 — 7 p.m. Hevreh of Southern Berkshire, 270 State Road, Great Barrington, MA Japanese Relocation Camps: Yellow Bowl Project with Setsuko and Simon Winchester At the beginning of WWII, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an executive order giving the military authority to remove anyone with “1/16th Japanese blood” from areas that the government deemed “military zones.” Most people today know very little about this. In 2015 and 2016 Setsuko Winchester, an American of Japanese ethnicity, traveled to the ten US “relocation sights” with her husband, Simon Winchester. Their letters to editor, Abraham Cahan, and his replies were preserved in A Bintel Brief.
