    nieuwsbrief januari 2010 Erfgoed Hoogstraten, Leemstraat 9b, 2320 Hoogstraten, arrondissement Turnhout erfgoed hoogstraten Beste Erfgoedleden, In de eerste plaats wil ik u in naam van het ganse bestuur een prachtig 2010 toewensen. Vooral op persoonlijk vlak maar zeker ook op ‘erfgoedvlak’ hopen we samen met u dat het een fantastisch jaar wordt. U weet dat 2010, voor wat Hoogstraten betreft, een jubileumjaar wordt waarin ook onze erfgoedvereniging haar beste beentje zal voorzetten. Het resultaat van onze inspanningen zal u kunnen ervaren tijdens het plechtige openingsweekend van 24 en 25 april waar we u een ‘wandeling’ doorheen de geschiedenis zullen kunnen presenteren. U bent nu al van harte uitgenodigd op dit evenement. Sterker nog: we hopen u daar massaal te mogen verwelkomen. Ook kondigt er zich weer een nieuw en zeer interessant erfgoedboek aan dat u vast en zeker met zeer veel plezier en interesse zal lezen. U verwelkomen doen we ook graag op onze jaarlijkse algemene vergadering die doorgaat op zaterdag 6 februari om 14 uur in de Watermolen van Meersel-Dreef. Net als vorig jaar bieden we u een interessante cocktail aan van enerzijds een bezoek aan een historisch pand en anderzijds een boeiende inkijk in de werking van onze werkgroepen. Want dat onze werkgroepen weer het beste van zichzelf gegeven hebben, heeft u al kunnen lezen in de verslagen in de nieuwsbrieven. Dat zij dit in het komende jaar opnieuw zullen doen zullen ze u graag zelf vertellen tijdens onze algemene vergadering. Ik roep u dan ook van harte op deze mensen te steunen door uw aanwezigheid. In onze vorige nieuwsbrief heeft u kunnen lezen dat Frans Horsten een stapje teruggezet heeft om zich nog meer te kunnen inzetten voor wat hem persoonlijk zeer nauw aan het hart ligt namelijk de zorg voor ons onroerend erfgoed.

Stratigraphic analysis of cored and geophysically logged boreholes in the Kasterlee-Geel-Retie-Mol-Dessel area of the Belgian Campine has established the presence of two lithostratigraphic units between the classical Diest and Mol Formations, geometrically related to the type Kasterlee Sand occurring west of the Kasterlee village and the study area. A lower ‘clayey Kasterlee’ unit, equivalent to the lithology occurring at the top of the Beerzel and Heist-op-den-Berg hills, systematically occurs to the east of the Kasterlee village. An overlying unit has a pale colour making it lithostratigraphically comparable to Mol Sand although its fine grain size, traces of glauconite and geometrical position have traditionally led stratigraphers to consider it as a lateral variety of the type Kasterlee Sand; it has been named the ‘lower Mol’ or ‘Kasterlee-sensu-Gulinck’ unit in this study.

De Overheide ligt op de rechteroever van het riviertje de Aa, ten oosten van het dorp Weelde in de gemeente Ravels, in een grootschalig bos- en akkerlandschap, typisch voor de Noorderkempen. Enkel naar het zuiden sluit het boscomplex waartoe het bosreservaat behoort (ongeveer 200 ha) op een groot groengebied aan, domeinbos Ravels. In het westen, noorden en oosten is het omringd door sterk ontwaterd en bemest landbouwgebied. Centraal in het bosreservaat ligt een natuurlijke slenk op zandgrond, de Bogaert, waarlangs oppervlaktewater van het hogere landschap naar de Aa stroomt. Tot eind 19e eeuw werd die omringd door heide. Tussen 1870 en 1930 werden de drogere delen bebost: grotendeels met Grove den. Langsheen de Aa werden in een eikenbestand lijnaanplantingen van Zomereik opgenomen. Het zuidelijk deel van de slenk werd drooggelegd en in weiland omgezet, de rest werd bedijkt om er een vijver van te maken. De potentieel natuurlijke vegetatie in de bosbestanden van Overheide is een vochtige tot droge variant van eikenbos op arm en zuur zand (Betulo-Quercetum roboris en/of Fago-Quercetum).
