They are behind the wheel of the bus taking us so many amazing places. I recently had the privilege of riding with Dale. He has been with the company for a little over 3 years. Dale was the driver for the Country Farm Tour that took us through the winding roads of Richland County. Dale gets up before most all of us to inspect the motor coach and review the maps before he heads to the Fun DBus Headquarters to pick up his first group of passengers. Off we went through the various roadways of the central Ohio. Through country backroads, Interstate Highways, and urban roadways picking up the passengers that spend the days with us. But Dale's day is not just about driving, it is also about interacting with the customers and enjoying the same activities that the customers do. RDale got to ride along on the wagon tour of Malabar Farm and learn about Malabar Farm where Pulitzer Prize winner Louis Bromfield shared his knowledge of sustainable agriculture. He also got to see the cabin used in the movie Shawshank Redemption. Then it was off to The Blueberry Patch where he ate a lunch with the customers on the tour and they got to enjoy his witty humor. Next we went to the Alpaca Farm where Dale got to hand feed a llama, an alpaca and a couple sheep. Our last stop was the Groovy Plant Ranch where the boy scout in Dale came out and he helped the guests cross the road (Yes, Dale was actually a boy scout a I "few" years ago.) Dale ended the day with a quick joke and took the guests back to their vehicles. Watching each passenger to make sure they were safely in their cars. After the final passenger leaves, Dale takes the bus to get it fueled for the next trip and takes it back to the garage to end his Vday. DRIVEDRIVE FORFOR US!US! © Lonely Planet Publications 19 Destination Jordan So it’s official. Petra, jewel in the crown of Jordan’s antiquities, has been declared by popular ballot as one of the ‘new’ Seven Wonders of the World. Jordan’s authorities, together with tour operators, hoteliers and even the Bedouin of Petra themselves, have been quick to understand the commercial value of this marketing coup, and prices have risen accord- ingly. The magnificent rock-hewn city of the Nabataeans hardly needed further billing. Since Johann Ludwig Burckhardt rediscovered it in the 19th century, it has been a favourite destination for Europeans – and at sunset on a winter’s day, when the rose-pink city catches alight, it’s easy to see why it has charmed a new generation of visitors. FAST FACTS Not to be outdone by Petra’s success, Wadi Rum – that epic landscape Population: 6.2 million of TE Lawrence and David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia – is a contender as Population growth rate: one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. • A National Tradition
Baseball A National Tradition. by Phyllis McIntosh. “As American as baseball and apple pie” is a phrase Americans use to describe any ultimate symbol of life and culture in the United States. Baseball, long dubbed the national pastime, is such a symbol. It is first and foremost a beloved game played at some level in virtually every American town, on dusty sandlots and in gleaming billion-dollar stadiums. But it is also a cultural phenom- enon that has provided a host of colorful characters and cherished traditions. Most Americans can sing at least a few lines of the song “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” Generations of children have collected baseball cards with players’ pictures and statistics, the most valuable of which are now worth several million dollars. More than any other sport, baseball has reflected the best and worst of American society. Today, it also mirrors the nation’s increasing diversity, as countries that have embraced America’s favorite sport now send some of their best players to compete in the “big leagues” in the United States. • Successful Tourism at Heritage Places
Successful Tourism at Heritage Places A GUIDE FOR TOURISM OPERATORS HERITAGE MANAGERS AND COMMUNITIES this Foreword The Australian Heritage Commission (AHC) and the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, with the assistance of the Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism (CRC) have over several years explored issues of common concern about the responsible use of Australia’s heritage places for tourism. We have aimed to move beyond general notions of the incompatibility of tourism and heritage conservation toward emphasising the potential contributions that tourism can make. Discussions over the last few years have demonstrated that impacts can often be managed effectively. There is much common ground and great potential for benefits all round. In this guide we have provided information to help people more clearly under- stand the issues involved and have developed some practical pointers for those aiming for successful and responsible tourism at heritage places. We hope this guide is a useful springboard for you. Aboriginal Tourism Australia i Developing this guide In 1998, the Australian Heritage Commission and the Department of Industry, Science and Resources identified the need to develop guidelines for tourism where heritage places are involved. This followed recognition that there needed to be a stronger bridge between tourism industry codes of practice and heritage conservation principles. A steering committee was established (see Acknowledgments) and the National Centre for Tourism was employed to produce a draft document in 1999. This final document has resulted from submissions from tourism operators, heritage managers and community groups across Australia. The document incorporates key elements of international and national tourism research, strategies, guidelines and codes of practice (see Section 7).

  • Triple Plays Analysis
A Second Look At The Triple Plays By Chuck Rosciam This analysis updates my original paper published on SABR.org and Retrosheet.org and my Triple Plays sub-website at SABR. The origin of the extensive triple play database1 from which this analysis stems is the SABR Triple Play Project co-chaired by myself and Frank Hamilton with the assistance of dozens of SABR researchers2. Using the original triple play database and updating/validating each play, I used event files and box scores from Retrosheet3 to build a current database containing all of the recorded plays in which three outs were made (1876-2019). In this updated data set 719 triple plays (TP) were identified. [See complete list/table elsewhere on Retrosheet.org under FEATURES and then under NOTEWORTHY EVENTS]. The 719 triple plays covered one-hundred-forty-four seasons. 1890 was the Year of the Triple Play that saw nineteen of them turned. There were none in 1961 and in 1974. On average the number of TP’s is 4.9 per year.
