Ordained at the age of twelve in Jiangsu Province, China, Hsing Yun has spent over seventy years as a Buddhist monk promoting what he calls “Humanistic Buddhism”— Buddhism that meets the needs of people and is integrated into all aspects of daily life. 9 Master Hsing Yun bibliography 10 Foreword 11 Master Hsing Yun bibliography ince the registration of Nan Tien Institute as a teaching centre in 2010 and the Scommencement of MA courses in Applied Buddhist Studies after that, a research and teaching library focused on all manner of Buddhist traditions and teachings has been developed in Wollongong to support both staff and students at the Institute. From small beginnings when the Insitute was located within the grounds of Nan Tien Temple, the library shifted across to the new building on Nolan Street in March 2015 and now has a very creditable collection of Buddhist studies monograph material, enhanced by significant donations of materials on Humanistic Buddhism in particular. Newer materials relevant to current teaching are added each year to consolidate the coverage of as many areas of Buddhist studies as relevant to the teaching and research interests. This listing is the first in a planned series of occasional bibliographies; it cumulates all the monographs by the Venerable Master Hsing Yun held in the library of Nan Tien Institute (Wollongong). It was compiled primarily as a finding aid and as a checklist but also as a contribution towards the promotion of studies of Humanistic Buddhism. In all cases reference to NTI Library’s on-line catalogue will reveal the full call number and allow users to locate this material in the NTI library collection. 12 Foreword In 2017 a combined edition of all of the Venerable Master’s original works in Chinese was released: the Xingyun da shi quan ji (星雲大師全集) in 365 volumes. A complete set of this is also held in the NTI Library collections. As yet no listing of translations is available and that is the lack this bibliography attempts to fulfill as a preliminary handlist. • Venerable Master Hsing Yun's 2014 Letter to Dharma Protectors And
Issue No.33 January 2014 Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s 2014 Letter to Dharma Protectors and Friends Abbot and Dharma Transmission Ceremony for the 49th Generation of the Linji School was held with Ven. Hsin Bao as the new Head Abbot, and with Ven. Hui Chuan, Ven Hui Lun, Ven. Hui Kai, Ven. Hui Zhao, and Ven. Hui Feng as Deputy Abbots. It brings me much assurance and comfort to see the new leader of the Fo Guang Shan Order elected by system. My words for them were that Fo Guang Shan is humanistic, is open, is about team effort, and depends on a heritage. It is the entire order’s duty to create a new future, build a new milestone, and disseminate Humanistic Buddhism in every part of the world. On the same day, 72 monastics from all Five Continents including Ven. Ming Guang, Director of the Buddhist Association of Taipei, and Ven. Jing Yao, Director of the China International Offering Ceremony to All Buddhas became the Dharma Descendants. Last year, after I completed Buddhist Affinities Across One Hundred Years under the invitation of Academia Historica, I continued my narrations and published a new edition in April. The new Dear Dharma Protectors and Friends, book set consists of 160 million characters in Chinese, a total of 16 volumes that come with a Auspicious greetings! collection of 1,600 pictures. The book launch took place at the National Taiwan Library in Taipei. As we celebrate Fo Guang Shan’s 48th anniversary, I Later in October, the Simplified Chinese edition myself would also be turning 88 years old.

How it came from China, moved to Korea, Japan, spread to the West, including USA, Europe and Australia. And then on new media like Internet. The author believes that the straightforward and non-hierarchic approach of Zen made it an appropriate answer to the needs of millions of people along the centuries, and this is especially true here and now. After seeing how Seon spread so far, we then discuss practical ways of making it even more accessible in the cyberspace, with potential and limits of new media. Chan, Seon and Zen stand for similar Dharma schools, respectively in China, Korea and Japan. Zen became a house-hold name, because Japanese Zen masters played an important role in spreading awareness about it, that is why Zen has been used as title for this booklet.
