Ordained at the age of twelve in Jiangsu Province, China, Hsing Yun has spent over seventy years as a Buddhist monk promoting what he calls “Humanistic Buddhism”— Buddhism that meets the needs of people and is integrated into all aspects of daily life. 9 Master Hsing Yun bibliography 10 Foreword 11 Master Hsing Yun bibliography ince the registration of Nan Tien Institute as a teaching centre in 2010 and the Scommencement of MA courses in Applied Buddhist Studies after that, a research and teaching library focused on all manner of Buddhist traditions and teachings has been developed in Wollongong to support both staff and students at the Institute. From small beginnings when the Insitute was located within the grounds of Nan Tien Temple, the library shifted across to the new building on Nolan Street in March 2015 and now has a very creditable collection of Buddhist studies monograph material, enhanced by significant donations of materials on Humanistic Buddhism in particular. Newer materials relevant to current teaching are added each year to consolidate the coverage of as many areas of Buddhist studies as relevant to the teaching and research interests. This listing is the first in a planned series of occasional bibliographies; it cumulates all the monographs by the Venerable Master Hsing Yun held in the library of Nan Tien Institute (Wollongong). It was compiled primarily as a finding aid and as a checklist but also as a contribution towards the promotion of studies of Humanistic Buddhism. In all cases reference to NTI Library’s on-line catalogue will reveal the full call number and allow users to locate this material in the NTI library collection. 12 Foreword In 2017 a combined edition of all of the Venerable Master’s original works in Chinese was released: the Xingyun da shi quan ji (星雲大師全集) in 365 volumes. A complete set of this is also held in the NTI Library collections. As yet no listing of translations is available and that is the lack this bibliography attempts to fulfill as a preliminary handlist.
