Objective In order to fulfill wishes of the public to become Buddhist followers of the right faith, the 2021 Virtual Triple Gem Refuge Ceremony will be held on Guanyin Bodhisattva Days. 2. Online testing: On the day before the ceremony, refuge taking registrants are required to go online testing at the same of the actual ceremony. *Observers can log onto Youtube BLIA World Headquarters for the ceremony (subscriptions welcome) 6. Registration Zoom Meeting: At one hour before the ceremony, refuge taking registrants are to log onto Zoom meeting and key in your name according to your branch temple’s instructions for the temple to take attendance. 7. FEE: Free (Donations are appreciated) 8. The Practice of Fasting after Midday in Contemporary Chinese Nunneries Tzu-Lung Chiu University of Ghent According to monastic disciplinary texts, Buddhist monastic members are prohibited from eating solid food after midday. This rule has given rise to much debate, past and present, particularly between Mahāyāna and Theravāda Buddhist communities. This article explores Chinese Buddhist nuns’ attitudes toward the rule about not eating after noon, and its enforcement in contemporary monastic institutions in Taiwan and Mainland China. It goes on to investigate the external factors that may have influenced the way the rule is observed, and brings to light a diversity of opinions on the applicability of the rule as it has been shaped by socio- cultural contexts, including nuns’ adaptation to the locals’ ethos in today’s Taiwan and Mainland China. Introduction Food plays a pivotal role in the life of every human being, as the medium for the body’s basic needs and health, and is closely intertwined with most other aspects of living. GES1005/SSA1208 D14 CHOO HUI TING FONG CHU XI ONG PUI YUAN The purpose of the visit to Kwan Yin Chan Lin Meditation Centre (KYCL) on the 22nd September 2017 is to find out the integral roles Chinese temples played in the lives of Chinese Singaporeans in the early days. Introduction Built on freehold land, KYCL is located at 21 Lorong, 25 Geylang Singapore 388299, within the vicinity of Aljunied MRT Station. The centre is managed by a committee of 9 Venerable and founded on the basis of Zen Buddhism, which focuses on the discovering of ‘true self’ through meditation. KYCL falls under the Mahayana School of Buddhism, one of the three major schools of Buddhism. History and Founding Venerable Chi Boon is the founder and Abbot of KYCL. He met Zen Master Seung Sahn in Korea during a retreat and started practicing under his guidance. He was awarded the Inka in 1998, an official certification to allow him to function as a Zen Master. He established KYCL at Pulau Ubin in 1991 and relocated it three times.
