FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 15, 2017 COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS PLACE D GABRIEL CARLSSON ON INJURED RESERVE AND RECALL D MARKUS NUTIVAARA FROM AHL’S CLEVELAND MONSTERS COLUMBUS, OHIO --- The Columbus Blue Jackets have retroactively placed defenseman Gabriel Carlsson on Injured Reserve and recalled defenseman Markus Nutivaara from the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Carlsson, 20, who is day-to-day with an upper body injury suffered on Friday, October 13 vs. the New York Rangers, is eligible to come off Injured Reserve on Saturday, October 21. He recorded an assist in four games this season prior to the injury and has 0-2-2 in six career NHL games with the Jackets since making his NHL debut at the end of last season. He also made his American Hockey League debut in 2016-17, recording 0-1-1 in three contests with the Cleveland Monsters. The Orebro, Sweden native notched 3-12-15 and eight penalty minutes in 92 career Swedish Hockey League contests from 2014-17. He was Columbus' second first-round pick, 29th overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft. Nutivaara, 23, has registered four shots in three games with the Monsters this season. He posted 2-5-7 with six penalty minutes and had a +7 plus/minus rating in 66 games with the Blue Jackets in his first NHL campaign in 2016-17. The blueliner made his NHL debut on Oct. 13, 2016 vs. Boston and tallied his first NHL goal on Nov. 12, 2016 vs. St. Louis. The Oulu, Finland native posted 6-18-24 with 18 penalty minutes and was +17 in 85 career games with Karpat in Finland’s top professional league (Liiga) from 2014-16. Columbus’ seventh round pick, 189th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft, he notched 6-16-22 with 14 penalty minutes in 50 games with Karpat during the 2015-16 campaign. The Blue Jackets return to action on Tuesday when they visit the Winnipeg Jets at Bell MTS Place. Game time is 8 p.m. ET.
