BLUE JACKETS NOTES BOUNCE BACK JACKETS The Blue Jackets are looking to bounce back from a 3-2 Game 3 loss to the Lightning and even their series at two wins apiece. The club has showed its resiliency in the postseason, following up each of their first three losses in the 2020 playoffs with a victory. CBJ have outscored Toronto and Tampa Bay 10-4 in the three victories following a loss.

TIGHT AFFAIRS Four of the Jackets’ last six games have been decided in one-goal finals (1-3), including three after regulation. Besides the epic quintuplet overtime on Tuesday, the club played in single OTs in Games 3 and 4 vs. Toronto and are now 1-2 in overtime in the 2020 postseason (6-6 all-time). The one-goal finals have been a common theme for the club all season. The team led the NHL in one-goal games played and wins in 2019-20 with 43 and 20 respectively (20-8-15).

(A GOOD) CASE OF THE MONDAYS Columbus enjoyed great success in Monday games during the 2019-20 season, finishing undefeated in regulation on the day (8-0-1). The only loss came at the hands of the Lightning, a 2-1 overtime loss at Nationwide Arena on Feb. 10. CBJ outscored their opponents 29-17 on Mondays during the season. That included shutout victories over Ottawa (1-0 on Nov. 25) and Washington (3-0 on Dec. 16) and four contests that went to overtime (3-1).

CONTRIBUTIONS ALL AROUND Forwards Riley Nash and Eric Robinson scored their first goals of the 2020 postseason in Game 3 against the Lightning on Saturday. They became the 12th and 13th Blue Jackets to score a goal in the playoffs with their tallies. The 13 players in tied with Calgary for the second-most different goal scorers in the playoffs, trailing only Vegas (14).

KILLING IT The Blue Jackets’ penalty kill unit has been instrumental in the team’s success in the playoffs. The club has killed off all eight opponent power plays in the last four games and ranks fourth in the NHL in penalty kill percentage in the postseason (90.0 pct; 18-of-20). They rank only behind Washington (95.5) among teams still playing in the playoffs. CBJ have killed off all opponent power plays in six of the eight games so far.

QUALIFYING JACKETS The Blue Jackets were the last team to punch their ticket to the 2020 as they went the distance against the in the Eastern Conference qualifying round. The club earned two of their three victories via shutout, including the clinching game in a 3-0 win on Sunday. It marked the first time in franchise history CBJ won a winner-take-all game (of any length series).

FOUR-STRAIGHT For the first time in franchise history, CBJ have earned a trip to the postseason to compete for the Stanley Cup in four consecutive seasons. With the results of qualifying round play, Columbus is one of just three teams to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of the past four campaigns, joining Washington (six) and Boston (four). It marks the sixth time in club history, and fifth in the past seven seasons that the franchise will compete for the Stanley Cup.

TORTS IN CHARGE CBJ head coach John Tortorella was named a finalist for the 2019-20 Jack Adams Award after leading the club to a 33-22-15 record despite seeing his team lead the league in man games lost (419). It’s the fifth time he’s been named a finalist for the award. He has won it twice in 2004 (with Tampa Bay) and 2017 with Columbus).

KORPI’S WORLD Joonas Korpisalo has had a strong postseason to date and especially of late, stopping 185-of-192 shots (.964 SV%, 1.28 GAA) over the last four contests. That includes an NHL single-game record of 85 saves in Tuesday’s Game 1 quintuple OT loss to the Lightning. The netminder ranks first in the NHL in shutouts (two, tied) and SV% (.956) and second-T in GAA (1.51) (min. three games played). He recorded the first two shutouts in franchise playoff history after stopping 28 shots in Game 1 vs. Toronto (Aug. 2) and the deciding Game 5 (Aug. 9). Korpisalo was selected to his first NHL All-Star Game and went 19-12-5 with a 2.60 GAA, .911 SV% and two shutouts in 37 games, setting single season career highs in wins, shutouts and games played.

DUBOIS LEADS THE WAY Pierre-Luc Dubois set up the Blue Jackets’ first two goals in Game 2 for his third multi-point effort of the 2020 postseason. The center ranks fifth-T in the NHL in playoff goals and points with 4-4-8 in eight outings. His eight career playoff goals trail only Cam Atkinson for the most all-time in franchise history. He has found success in the faceoff dot, winning 61.1 percent of his draws over the last five games (55-of-90), including 75.0 percent in Game 3 (15-of-20).

FROM THE BLUELINE The top pair of Seth Jones (assist on 65:06) and Zach Werenski (61:14) led the way in ice time on Tuesday with Jones setting the single game NHL record. Jones (1-2-3) leads the NHL in TOI/game during the playoffs (33:23) and ranks fourth-T in blocked shots (25) while Werenski ranks second in TOI/game (30:29). The duo have led the way from the backend all season for CBJ. Werenski set a new single-season franchise record for goals by a defenseman and became the first Blue Jacket to lead all NHL blueliners in goals (20-21-41 in 63 games). Jones, meanwhile, was selected to play in his fourth consecutive All-Star Game and ranked seventh in the NHL in time on ice (25:17), finishing with 6-24-30 in 56 games.
