“GIANNI AGNELLI AND FERRARI. THE ELEGANCE OF THE LEGEND”, CENTENARY EXHIBITION AT THE MEF MODENA. ONLINE OPENING ON 12 MARCH, LIVE VIRTUAL TOURS UNTIL 1 APRIL. Maranello, 11 March 2021 – The new exhibition at the Museo Enzo Ferrari in Modena brings together the one-off cars built by Ferrari for Gianni Agnelli and meticulously customised in close collaboration with him. This unique collection is a testament to the symbiotic relationship that developed between two of the most charismatic and authoritative figures of the 20th century and endured for over 50 years. “Gianni Agnelli and Ferrari. The Elegance of the Legend” is an homage by the Maranello marque to one of its greatest touchstones, first and foremost as a loyal client and later as close confidant and partner, on the 100th anniversary of the latter’s birth tomorrow. The official online opening of the exhibition takes place on March 12 on the Ferrari Museums’ social media channels and website. As we wait for new government regulations to allow us to reopen the MEF’s exhibition halls to the public, we will be organising two free virtual live tours of around 30 minutes each day until April 1. These can be booked starting tomorrow at the Museums’ website (Ferrari.com/it-IT/museums). A Prancing Horse enthusiast from a young age, Gianni Agnelli was consistently courteous and respectful in his proposals for highly customised special versions of certain models. For his part, Enzo Ferrari was aware that the influence, aesthetic tastes and personality of a client who was both very close to the factory and familiar with working on exclusive projects, might lead to successful and farsighted choices.

Dave Tomaro 2 SCM 2019 Year in Review Celebrating the Automobile n the “Jurassic Park” movie, paleontologist Alan Grant stares wide-eyed with wonderment when he first sees a living brontosaurus. The entire first part of the film is a journey into a land of fantasy — where dreams come to life. It’s not so different at SCM. Visitors to our World Headquarters in Portland, OR, often comment that once they walk through our door, they are immersed in a I world of vintage cars — a four-wheeled Jurassic Park. This firstSCM Year in Review is a look back over the past year. It consists of original photographs and stories from our contributors, where they share the events and experiences that have mattered to them. The collector-car market comprises thousands of events, ranging from the annual Ford Mustang show and swapmeet in Indianapolis to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. While the focus of Sports Car Market and American Car Collector is values and trends, every contributor is an enthusiast first and an analyst second. In addition to being at auctions, you will find them at swapmeets, club meetings, tours, rallies and cruise-ins. They live and breathe cars. This past year marked our second SCM 1000. Once again, the pages of SCM came to life as 40 pre-1975 cars — and 80 drivers and co-pilots — cruised through 1,000 miles of the Oregon and Washington countryside. Each night, the entire group gathered for our unique “Conversations with Collectors,” where everyone asked questions of SCM experts including Donald Osborne, Miles Collier, Steve Serio and others.

When a tour guide mentioned to Henry Ford that a keen young Italian kept coming back for more, he couldn’t resist meeting the foreigner and inviting him to lunch. Once he saw Battista’s coachwork design sketches spread out on the restaurant tablecloth, Ford wasted no time in offering the 27- year old a job as his chief designer. After all, as the young man explained, he’d worked in his brother’s coachbuilding company since age just 12, propelled from fetcher of espresso to de facto chief designer by his own drive and intuitive skills. It may seem a giant leap from the sepia days of the Model T to this urbane Bristol 401 cabriolet, whose lines were probably drawn by one of Pinin Farina’s unnamed disciples, supervised by the pint-size design genius.

Sharing roughly the same chassis and suspension features of its forebearers, the 212 featured a 2.6-liter variation of Ferrari’s free-revving V-12. Thanks to the increase in displacement, power increased to 150 bhp in standard road trim, with as much as 170 bhp available when fitted with three Weber carburetors. Not only was the 212 more powerful than the car it replaced, it was more forgiving as well, producing greater torque at lower engine speeds for increased drivability. All told, 82 examples of the road-going 212 Inter were completed prior to the introduction of the 250 series.
