ASSEMBLAGE ARCHITECTS 2 1. General overview and design approach and preliminary schedule :

• Approach: We will approach this space by creating a stage for the City’s social interactions. An outdoor living room with flexible amenities that can serve the broadest functions and host diverse events. Our strategy is to achieve this based on building community consensus and common goals and objectives.

Assemblage Architects places great value on collaborative design. We will kick off the design process with a design that includes the Downtown Plaza Core Team, city staff, and other stakeholders. Stakeholder ideas, input, and comments are central to this intensive planning session. This provides our design team with immediate, live feedback. allow the Project Team to establish design direction in a collaborative manner.

Pre-conceptual ideas generated during the charrette process will be further refined and presented to all project stakeholders for review and comment.

Once the Project Team has selected a schematic design pathway, we will present it at a public meeting. Public comments will be recorded. Comments will be discussed with the Project Team, and incorporated to the extent desired by the Project Team.

We anticipate conducting several meetings at design milestones to gather additional stakeholder feedback. Feedback will be incorporated prior to next presentation.

Goals and Objectives: Through public input we will identify a series of goals and objectives, organize them by hierarchy and let these goals become our design principles.

Design Guidelines: Based on goals and objectives we will develop a series of tangible design guidelines that we help us design the space and maintain its focus and boundaries.

• Working with the Core Team, City Staff, and other Stakeholders:

Meeting: We will meet on Bi-weekly bases with the core team and the staff to present project development and hear comments.

Collaborative Project Website: We will establish a project website to show our progress, decisions and seek input from the community at large.

Open Houses: Because we are located in Downtown Middleton, we will hold open houses (on some weekend TBD) to talk to our neighbors and hear their comments and reflect on their perspectives.

UNION CORNERS DEVELOPMENT RENDERING Location: Madison, Wisconsin 316 West Washington Avenue Renovation Madison, Wisconsin

This was an exciting renovation for the Hovde Properties at 316 West Washington Avenue, located in downtown Madison. This 40-year old architectural building façade veneer was stripped and replaced with window paneling to brighten the eyes of employees utilizing this space for office and mixed-use retail. Two magnificent plaza spaces at the front and rear entrance to the building were created. The site design and landscape architectural components provided by JSD offer employees a unique tree Bosque seating space to relax under while overseeing others enjoying the mixed-use retail component of the first floor entries. Architectural pavers, ornamental grasses, and upright deciduous trees direct the user’s eye towards the building’s grand entrance while decreasing the overall scale of Hovde Properties multi-story building.
