ROUND 6

A1 PREMIER – ROUND 7 VS WOODVILLE RECHABITES AT WALKERVILLE This week saw the A1 team take on last year’s depleted premiership side Woodville Rech. The warm ups went to schedule with another very highly contested game of soccer. The skip one the toss again and decided to bat. From there the day went down hill with Walkerville losing three quick wickets to be 3 for 15 it was time for the batters to dig in and make the most of their time at Matho sweetly times yet another ball to the boundary. the which was keeping slow and low and making it very difficult to score. After a partnership getting the side to 92 and Walkerville some what back into the game we again lost quick wickets to be all out for 140. Chop again the only shining light with the bat, scoring a very gritty and well fought out 49. Day two saw a determined cats line up take to the field ready to defend their 140 runs. Starting up was Johny Walker and Iggy Pop for the cats before deciding to switch ends. Enter Joe (wish I could play like my dad) Frick given one over to change the ends for the opening bowlers. Joe wasted no time and snared his first A Mark ‘Scooter’ Reid in action on his way to 49. grade wicket with his 4th ball with the celebrations done it was back to business. The cats taking steady wickets and right in the game with one man standing out, getting a little to close to the umpires for anyones liking. Iggy performed wonderfully throughout the day and ended up with 5 wickets and a new found fan. Fielding efforts this week that stood out were Panzes roll over the boundary line and the 3 man relay from the boundary.

Next round see’s the A1’s take on Gepps Cross in a Michael Sifkus takes a break from modeling duties as must win match. he shows a solid defence. Scores: Walkerville 141 (M Reid 49) and 0/17 lost to Woodville Rechabites 169 (Mareolas 5/41).

Iggy not only bowls but bat’s as he dispatches a ball through the covers

A3– ROUND 7 VS ATHELSTONE AT ATHELSTONE Will Walker looking to add to his impressive average The A3 `s traveled to Athelstone to take on a team that with the bat. are just a few points above us and if last year was anything to go by it would be played more like a football or soccer game than a cricket match. Well they certainly didn’t let us down and keeping with the current theme in the media at the moment let me just say ONLY ONE TEAM WAS PLAYING CRICKET!!!

It was a stinking hot day and Mal won the toss and he’d previously hit the worst ball for 4. Magoo was elected to bat with a new opening combination of Bish replaced by his namesake and we progressed steadily, and Nelson and the objective of having wickets in hand although the run rate was beginning to mount. Once at tea batting 80 overs and building partnerships of 25 Fricky was sure he had Joe well and truly covered in the and more. We were going along nicely at 2 for 70 odd BOG Award he threw it away and, despite the odd when the wheels fell off and went to tea at 7 for 90 odd. flurry of runs we just couldn’t get the couple of big After tea I said to the guys that we need to make as overs required to rein in Reynella’s total. In the end it many as we can and give our bowlers as many runs to was a disappointing loss in very good game of cricket play with as possible, we were all out for 111 and had played in great spirit. Unfortunately we won’t be able to to bowl 28 overs at them. They finished the day at 3 for put that side on the park again this season. 70 odd a couple of more wickets and we might have been in it. Scores: Walkerville 7/199 (G Frick 61, S Callary 37 no, S Hinksman 35, B Mayberry 20) lost to Reynella The next week was a much better day to play, they 9/207 (Grantham 4/55, Fullarton 2/33) batted on and declared at 9 for 219, with Darcy taking 6 for 46, meant we had to bat a minimum of 45 overs. C2– ROUND 7 VS WOODVILLE SOUTH AT Bish and Nelson put on over 50 for the first wicket then WAITE OVAL a number of guys got starts but couldn`t go on with it. The return of experienced players Barney Russack and Bish made 37 to go with his 38 from the first innings, Luke Robertson gave the D grade a much needed boost Nelson made a very determind 26, Hutchy 21, Ben for this clash with the unbeaten league leaders. Nicol 28 and we finished 5 for 144 off 50 overs and We won the toss for the first time and asked the was much better the second time around. We just need opposition to bat on the usual bouncing and seaming to make more runs in our first innings to give our Waite deck. Our opening attack of Luke Robertson (6ov bowlers a chance. Here`s hoping we can turn it around 1/18) and Sam Bentley (8ov 1/20) bowled a great line in the next few games and get out of the relegation and length. The ground fielding was excellent, zone. COME ON BOYS WE CAN DO IT?? particularly from Adam Rutherford and George Vass, while the catching was exceptional, including a beauty Scores: Walkerville 111 (R Bishop 38, J Hutchinson from Sam Bentley in the deep. The spin of Jacob Leak 22) and 5/144 (N Ruiz 26, R Bishop 37, B Nicol 28, J (8ov 2/33) and then the cleaned up the late order Hutchinson 24) lost to Athelstone 9/219 (D Wright with 4 after a middle order partnership. Woodville 6/47) South all out 169. A top effort by the Cats.

B2– ROUND 7 VS REYNELLA AT REYNELLA Unfortunately, our batting was still found wanting apart With a weeks notice of my elevation to captaincy duties from a terrific innings from Luke Robertson, who for round 7 I had time to do a bit of extra scouting for made 44. However, it was good to be able to field a players. Ambushing G after a few beers at the Past competitive and more experienced side and hopefully Players Day seemed like a master stroke…..how wrong this can continue through the rest of the season. I was to be proven. Giving Magoo the opportunity to Scores: Walkerville 91 (L Robertson 44) lost to virtually play in his own backyard was a winner and Woodville South 169 (N Powell 4/22) . catching Notta at a weak moment 2 hours before the toss was a bonus. We finished up with 8 or our 11 LOC – having had A Grade experience and ventured to Victor ROUND 12 VS GEPPS CROSS GEPPS CROSS Harbour Nth with a degree of confidence. Losing the toss wasn’t a good start but with Kano’s Scores: Walkerville 199 (S Laube 32, s Jenkins 28, B early breakthrough and G’s tight spell things were Pound 23, N Callary 22) lost to Gepps Cross 5/270 looking OK. Flanders replaced G with immediate (T Walker 2/35) success and bowled a good tight 5 over spell before being replaced by Ricardo who, although wicketless, QUOTE OF THE WEEK bowled exceptionally well. At the other end Stu Calorie and Freicky did the job but unfortunately Reynella got away in the last 5 overs and instead of chasing 180 odd By Dean Jones wicket keeping for the Aussie Beach we were looking at 207……still very gettable with our Cricket side against New Zealand in Sydney on the lineup. weekend. Deano after Mark Greatbatch had missed an inswinging from Mark Waugh has attempted to We got off to a slowish start with Ricardo and Kano (an run out the big NZ opener after he took off for an A Grade opener he tells me?) but with their departure ambishious run. Deano missed the stumps by a mile things picked up as Magoo and Freicky took to the falling head first into the sand. Deano was heard to say attack, adding 61 before Magoo hit the 2nd worst ball of in disgust the season straight up in the air……. “If I fell out of a boat, I still couldn’t hit water”.

As most of you know I have been called in by the ICC $45 up – A bit of a loss last week but if we stick as their Chief Match Referee to talk to both Ricky and together we can really clean up Monday night!!!! Anill about the going’s on in the last test in Sydney and try and resolve their teams issues. PLAYER AWARDS After talking to both captains I believe the bad blood Points are awarded as normal for A, B, C, D Grade 2 felt between both cricketing nations is a white’s vs week cricket however for LOC 1 dayers as there is an creams issue. Ricky wants the Aussie boys to wear opportunity to player double the games these points are creams but the ACB has flatly refused even if they are graded as 2/3rds. easier to clean. Anill wants his boys to wear whites but Top 20 - the ICB has flatly refused even if they do look better. The Sussex Hotel “BOG” Award So when both teams met out on the cricket field there is an immediate animosity between both sides just Player Matches Points because of the clothes they wear. Fullarton, Kane 7 352.00 I have recommended to both captains to put aside their Nicol, Ben 6 352.00 differences and get on with just playing cricket as this Mareolas, Iggy 7 350.00 issue is a much bigger one than I can deal with soley. Wright, Darcy 7 348.00 I certainly don’t want the same thing that happened at Duncan, Ben 7 309.00 the oval between England and Pakistan when Darryl Panzarino, Leo 7 306.00 Hair pulled stumps mid game, awarding England the Reid, Mark 7 290.00 game apparently due to the Pakistani’s ball tampering. Powell, Neil 8 270.99 I was the referee that day and whilst that is the official Laube, Simon 7 265.30 reason, behind closed doors it was an issue of Darryl Dabinett, Wade 9 259.20 wearing white, England wearing white and Pakistan Hutchinson, John 5 257.00 wearing creams. Darryl was annoyed that both sides Walker, Will 6 216.00 were not wearing the same colour as him so he just Farrell, Dave 7 214.00 walked off and awarded the game to England. He also Bellati, Julian 6 204.00 wanted to call a few blokes for chucking that day, but Jervies, Craig 6 195.76 that’s a whole other story. Mayberry, Bruce 7 190.32 Lingappa, Mahesh 7 189.00 I believe it will take a special task force put together by Bishop, Rohan 7 185.00 a special task force with some of the worlds experts to Robinson, David 7 181.58 decide, what is better whites vs creams? Callary, Stuart 5 178.72 I don’t believe there is an easy answer!!! Ranjan Madugalle. HOT OR NOT MORE PROOF

WHAT’S HOT Cate Blanchett – Well done to our Cate for picking up the best supporting actress Golden Globe for playing Bob Dylan in the music legends biopic. I wonder if Jodie Blewett thinks any of the Womens Aussie Cricket Team would make good actors. Maria Kirilenko – Through to the second round of the Aussie open, this Russian beauty could challenge good friend Maria Sharapova as the hottest player in womens tennis. Wouldn’t that be a good doubles combination. Aussie selectors– Great work selecting a 4 man pace attack against India in Perth and giving young gun Shaun Tait an opportunity. Hasn’t been done since 1992 however at 155km he’ll be worth it late in the test. America’s Next Top Model – What a great show, such beautiful girls all trying to win that one Ford modeling contract. Even better now I watch it without the sound. Again Mal was caught using is NEW mobile phone yet Chris Judd – Some of the loyal Carlton fans are again. I think that’s twice in 2 months, he’s becoming getting a bit excited about 2008 and the prospects of addicted. I think Mal was enquiring about getting Judd guiding them to a Premiership. He’s well ahead of Foxtel connected. Lets not get too carried away Mal, schedule and looks primed for a big year. I wonder if you need a TV first. they can trade in a few spoons for a cup!!!!

WHAT’S NOT SPONSORSHIP Indian Team – Making demands on the ICC like which umpires will officiate in Test Matches. SPONSORSHIP If you want to take the high moral ground keep the Sponsorship is such a crucial part of the success of any politics out of cricket!! club and we are really lucky to have some great Harabajan Singh – The turbinator, doesn’t walk when sponsors in: he’s bowled, carries on like a mad man when claiming a wicket and racially abuses an opposition player. It goes to show anyone with a nervous twitch can’t be trusted! THE SUSSEX HOTEL Adelaide United – Not only missing the finals after a promising start but loosing to the cellar dwellers Perth MORTGAGE FORCE Glory on the weekend shows the signs are not good for next year. It will be worse if Nathan Burns tries his luck in Europe!! ST. CLAIR TRANSPORT SA Redbacks – Having a very lean year. A good example of this is the 0-5 routing the boys took during the twenty20 competition against the other states. OYSTER BOB Atleast we loose fairly rather than winning controversially, Hey Bush Rangers, just ask Luke Ronchi!!!!!! COMMERCIAL CRASH Michael Clarke – Good on Clarkey for standing up and REPAIRERS saying he should have walked during the second Test against India, I mean the ball did go to first slip didn’t it. Also Clarkey’s hair cut, I wonder if the Bingle is HOME TIMBER & HARDWARE – taking credit for the crew cut. I wonder what Fev would SEFTON PLAZA have looked like?????
