    CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 10th JULY 2020 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down. Items will be sent to successful postal bidders the week after the auction and will be sent by the cheapest rate commensurate with the value and size of the item.

Niente tv a pagamento al tempo, il tennis era fruibile sulla Rai o le televisioni private ed era accompagnato dalla voce accalorata di Giampiero Galeazzi, da quella di Lea Pericoli, da quella degli amati Gianni Clerici e Rino Tommasi o da quella di Ubaldo Scanagatta. Fatto sta che dalle due del pomeriggio fino all’ora di cena (e anche oltre) seguivamo le partite, una dietro l’altra. I tornei più comodi da seguire erano gli Atp di Montecarlo, di Roma e i due Slam: il Roland Garros e Wimbledon. Il tennis femminile fino a un certo punto per me era traducibile in due nomi Chris Evert e Martina Navratilova, le ammiravo entrambe, ma ho sempre tifato la prima, anche se Navratilova è stata molto più forte e completa. Fino al 1986, avevo quindici anni al tempo, il tennis femminile veniva sempre in secondo piano, speravo che fosse in programma un buon match che riempisse l’attesa tra due incontri di singolare maschile. Cambiò qualcosa quando vidi i primi incontri di Steffi Graf, giocava meglio di tutti, era giovanissima, non sapevo chi fosse, nemmeno da dove venisse, mi bastava vederla muoversi sul campo, il suo gioco di gambe, la velocità, la precisione e la potenza del diritto.

Wimbledon is passing ! Not the in- I stitution which the world knows as the lawn tennis championships, but the ground hallowed by the history of the game a history shoemarked on its courts. It is rather a tragic thought, this uprooting of a shrine saluted for twoscore years and more by every disciple of lawn tennis in this country and by many a pilgrim from distant lands. After another June, or possibly two, dust-stained pedestrians, panting to reach the wicket gate, will cease to jostle each other on the old ladies and will railway footpath ; young cease to camp out in that uninspiring strip of unkempt roadway which connects the Worple Road with the of the All Club gates England ; waiting motor-cars will no longer convert a quiet and respectable neigh- bourhood into one great, inchoate garage.
