    Ian Salisbury (England 1992 to 2001) Ian Salisbury was a prolific wicket-taker in county cricket but struggled in his day job in Tests, taking only 20 wickets at large expense. Wisden claimed the leg-spinner’s googly could be picked because of a higher arm action, which negated the threat he posed. Keith Medlycott, his Surrey coach, felt Salisbury was under-bowled and had his confidence diminished by frequent criticism from people who had little understanding of a leggie’s travails. Yet Ian was a willing performer and an excellent tourist. Salisbury’s Test career was a stop-start affair. Over more than eight years, he played in only 15 Tests. Despite these disappointments Salisbury’s determination was never in doubt. Several times as well, he showed more backbone than his supposedly superior English spin colleagues; most notably in India in early 1993. Ian Salisbury also proved to be an excellent nightwatchman, invariably making useful contributions. His Test innings as nightwatchman are shown below. Celebrating 50 years of Cricket St. John Vianneys - St. Bede’s Old Collegians Cricket Club Inc. 50th Anniversary souvenir booklet 1961/62 to 2010/2011 1 Introduction St. John Vianney’s – St. Bede’s Old Collegians Cricket Club Inc. (St. John’s – St. Bede’s C.C.) was established in 1994 after the amalgamation of two clubs (St John Vianney’s Cricket Club and St Bede’s Old Collegians Cricket Club). These clubs were established in their own right in 1974 and 1961 respectively. Up until 1994 both clubs were affiliated with the F.D.C.A. in the Turf, Matting and Junior competitions. Both clubs were in the first grade turf competition but seeking better future options, voted to move to VTCA in 1994-95. Both clubs considered an amalgamation as a means of forming a strong local club ensuring future existence and growth. Since the amalgamation the Club joined the VTCA in 1994-95 season with the first eleven commencing its involvement in the South B1 division and in the following years progressed to the highest division available within the VTCA (Senior). In 2003 the club was accepted into the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association where it is looking forward to a long association. Kingston Saints (which is the playing name of the St. John Vianney’s – St. Bede’s Old Collegians Cricket Club Inc.), play in two different Competitions, our Senior Turf teams play in Sub District Cricket Association (VSDCA) and our Junior teams play in the City of Moorabbin Cricket Association (C.M.C.A), and both are very well developed competitions and the C.M.C.A.

    CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 10th JULY 2020 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down.     West Region Participation Newsletter, 96, November 2019 Inspiring Scotland to Choose Cricket Club Cricket News: Thanks to the 11 attendees, representing 6 different clubs, who came along to the Cricket Scotland West Region Participation Forum, on Sunday 17th November. Those present provided some different perspectives, some valuable input to discussions and some excellent feedback to Cricket Scotland. The forum reviewed All Stars Cricket 2019 and the Cricket Scotland Junior Formats, provided an update on all the participation opportunities available in the region, reminded attendees of the support networks available to clubs, had a creative games-based session in the sports hall…and provided a preview of the programme which is the follow-up to All Stars Cricket. Coach Education & Development News: The Level 2 Course (Coaching Children) got underway on 9 & 10 November, at Eastwood High School. There are 13 attendees, from 7 different clubs. They have completed modules 1, 2, 3 and 4 – with module 5 due to take place on Saturday 7th December. Thanks to tutors Colin McDougall and Gill McElnea who, once again, delivered very well-received Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport and Basic First Aid for Sport workshops on Sunday 24th November – with 25 attendees coming from 9 different clubs and some attending both workshops. Cricket Scotland News: Unfortuantely, Rosy Ryan is no longer Cricket Scotland’s Development Officer for the West Region – but for the best possible reason! Rosy has now been appointed as Cricket Scotland’s Women’s and Girls Participation Manager. Although a national remit, we still hope to see lots of Rosy’s energy and innovation in various projects in the West Region!     SURREY CRICKET FOUNDATION 2017 ANNUAL REVIEW Director of Cricket Participation Paul Taylor looks back on a year of change and great achievement right across the county. 2017 has been another incredibly busy year for the Surrey Cricket Foundation (SCF). In February, the Cricket Participation team restructured giving promotions to four very deserving individuals. Vicki Howard, Gavin Reynolds, Mark Babb and Harry Ellis were all promoted to Cricket Participation Officers with Vicki and Gavin taking on the lead for women & girls cricket and disabilities cricket respectively. Mark took the lead on our vast school competitions programme whilst Harry led on all events held at The Kia Oval. More importantly this gave us more resources in terms of club support. With Kim Price and Chevy Green also being club facing, we now have six members of staff working directly with our clubs, with Simon Hards taking on a coordinating role within club development. They have been ably supported by our community coaches and our administration team and whilst there are always continual challenges for us in terms of priorities, we have enjoyed some incredible successes. Our School’s programme, supported by Chance to Shine, has seen the game introduced to over 23,500 children in 2017. Across the Street projects, we again excelled in terms of delivery and the number of attendees. An achievement that has been highlighted by Chance to Shine across the country. Schools Day this year was held at the Royal London one-day match between Surrey and Kent and we saw just under 5,000 children enjoy the experience at The Kia Oval.
