Introduction 1.1 This consultation document has been produced by NHS Hampshire, NHS Southampton City and Hampshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, who are working together to develop older peoples mental health services that serve the populations of Southampton and South Hampshire. 1.2 It is the result of listening to what people have to say and describes part of a programme of service transformation that we see developing for older peoples mental health services over the next few years. 1.3 The importance of mental health to our overall well-being is recognised in national policies and by our colleagues locally in NHS organisations and Local Authorities. We want to make sure that our services are the best and that we exceed national standards for the quality and performance of our clinical care. 1.4 Our aim is to develop services which offer real choice and more control to the people who use them, allowing them to remain in their home, and supporting them to maintain independence and have a good quality of life. 1.5 This means beginning to change our existing services, moving from current in-patient bed- based services where there is now less demand, to focus on support in the community that meets the needs of the population now and in the future. 1.6 This public consultation describes proposals which have been developed by NHS Hampshire, NHS Southampton City and Hampshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
