Grenadier Yogender Singh Yadav (No. 2690572Kj, son of Shri Karan Singh Yadav, was born on May 10, 1980, in village Aurangabad Ahir, district Bulandshahar, UP. He was enrolled in Grenadiers on December 27, 1996.His father had served with Kumaon Regiment and had seen action during 1965 and 1971 Wars. Grenadiers Tiger Hill in the Drass Sector of Jammu and Kashmir was an important feature which was strongly held by Pakistani troops in strength. The feature is conical in shape, including two spurs branching to east and west and some ridges. The approach to the top, at a height of 16500 feet. was indeed difficult. 18 Grenadiers were tasked to capture Tiger Hill on July 1,1999. After making necessary preparation they launched the attack at 1430 hrs on July 3. During this attack Grenadier Yogender Singh Yadav was with the leading team ofGhatak . He volunteered to be in the lead and unmindful of the risk involved fixed rope for his team to climb up. The Pakistanis watching his team approaching the area top, opened up with intense Born· May 10. 1980 automatic, , rocket and artillery fire. His team Commander and two of his colleagues were killed in this murderous fire and the advance of Ghatak Platoon was thus stalled. Knowing the gravity of the situation, Grenadier Yadav crawled up to the enemy position to silence it, but in the process he sustained multiple bullet injuries. Unmindful of his injuries and the hail of bullets, he continued to push forward towards the enemy Position, lobbed a grenade and killed four enemy soldiers in close combat. During the charge on enemy position Grenadier Yogender Singh Yadav again sustained bullet injuries but he refused evacuation. Inspired by his gallant act. the Ghatak Platoon charged some other positions and captured Tiger Hill top, a majorobjective.

Grenadier Yogender Singh Yadav, thus displayed most conspicuous courage and bravery under extremely difficult situation. He was honoured with Param Vir Chakra.
