The Easy Way to Add 8-Way, , or Acid to System 2000 .

An easy way to add materials into a System 2000 uses only a garden hose and a bucket. If any dealer doesn’t add 8-Way to a boiler because ‘it’s too hard’, please tell him about this method.

Get a plastic bucket that will hold about five gallons and a ten foot (or longer) length of garden hose. Isolate the boiler from the system by closing the isolation . Shut off the boiler feeder. Connect the garden hose to the boiler drain , underneath the boiler. Place the end of the garden hose into the bottom of the bucket. Open the boiler drain and let the boiler drain into the bucket. The air vents will open and allow air into the boiler, so the boiler will almost completely empty out. o You should get about 2-1/2 gallons out of an EK-1 and about 4 gallons out of an EK-2. The will empty out as well. o If you want to flush the boiler out a couple of times, close the boiler drain, open the boiler feeder, refill the boiler, and drain down again. Repeat flushing as needed. At this point the boiler is empty, the is in the bucket, and the garden hose is full of water and submerged in the bucket. Add your material into the water in the bucket and stir well. o Add 8-Way o Add TSP o Add Antifreeze o Add about a quart of cleaning acid, such as Sizzle or Scale Strip When done, you will have about a half gallon left in the bucket, so you will have to increase the concentration (by 20% in an EK-1, or by 10% in an EK-2) to compensate. Keeping the garden hose submerged, lift the bucket up and place it on the air box. o The water in the bucket will siphon back into the boiler. o You will hear the air in the boiler coming out the air vents. Once the water stops siphoning back into the boiler, close the boiler drain, put the bucket back on the ground, and disconnect the garden hose. o Take care while disconnecting the hose to keep the hose end up so that the in the hose will drain into the bucket. Open the boiler feeder to refill and pressurize the boiler. o About a half gallon of fresh water will enter thru the boiler feeder, diluting the additive by 20% in an EK-1, or by 10% in an EK-2. If you are acid cleaning the boiler, plan on draining the boiler after the acid has done it’s work, and refilling the boiler with 8-Way. o Bring along two pounds of Baking Soda and neutralize the acid drained out of the boiler into the bucket.
