COMUNICATO STAMPA William Congdon American Modernist Abroad 9 maggio – 1 giugno Inaugurazione: giovedì 9 maggio, ore 19.00 La mostra personale di William Congdon presso la nostra galleria chiude un ciclo di esposizioni miranti a un rilancio all’estero del grande artista americano. Attività che intende proseguire con una riproposizione negli Stati Uniti del suo lavoro e una più costante presenza sul mercato dell'arte internazionale. In gennaio la mostra "American Modernist Abroad" è stata presentata con successo al Jesus College dell'università di Cambridge con un gruppo di opere provenienti dalla Fondazione Congdon e da collezionisti privati. La mostra ha proseguito il suo itinerario alla fiera parigina Art Paris in aprile e viene proposta al pubblico milanese con un catalogo curato da Paolo Biscottini. Le opere esposte includono rari esemplari degli anni 50, come Istanbul, e coprono tutto il percorso dell'artista fino a quadri come Neve eseguiti nella Bassa Milanese negli anni 80. La mostra contiene un'esauriente collezione di paesaggi che riportano l'inquieta traiettoria esistenziale di un grande viaggiatore, profondamente immerso nella realtà fisica e spirituale dei luoghi visitati o abitati per lunghi periodi. Numerose sono le rappresentazioni di Yemen e India, paesi particolarmente amati e più volte meta dei suoi viaggi. Per la sottile raffinatezza della sua produzione, l'assoluta eccellenza di quanti hanno scoperto e lanciato William Congdon all'epoca della sua apparizione nel mondo dell'arte, Clement Greenberg, Betty Parsons e Peggy Guggenheim per citare i più noti, per l'ottimo e scrupoloso lavoro svolto nei decenni dalla sua Fondazione che possiede oltre a opere eccezionali, un’immensa mole di documenti di importanza storica, l'artista che presentiamo si propone come una dei più autorevoli tra quanti hanno lavorato in Italia nel Novecento.
