YOUR OWN DESIGN

At Ingles Buchan, we provide a tartan design and weaving service where we can help you with expert advice on how to get your tartan woven.

We will take you through the full process, from designing your Tartan, to registering it with the Scottish Register of Tartan and then on to weaving your design.

HOW ITS MADE

The best quality 100% pure new wool yarn is sourced through dedicated yarn merchants and delivered in the colour ecru. The yarn is dyed into over 100 different stock colours in Selkirk, from there it’s broken down into cones for each colour ready to weave.

The weaving machines are set up and calibrated for your design and your tartan is then woven.

To apply to register a tartan, you need to have designed a unique tartan for which you must provide a threadcount, an image and a proposed tartan name. We strongly advise you to submit an application to register your tartan before having it woven to ensure it meets the criteria for registration.
