OUR LADY OF THE LAKE 1400 MAIN STREET, LEOMINSTER, MA 01453 978-342-2978 Dear Friends, As you may be aware, Pope Francis declared five new saints at a canonization ceremony at the Vatican two weeks ago. England’s Cardinal John Henry Newman (1801-1890) and four women from the far corners of the world. The women are: Italy’s Giuseppina Vannini (1859-1911), founder of the Daughters of Saint Camillus; India’s Mariam Thresia Chiramel Mankidiyan SAT., OCT. 26th (1876-1926), founder of the Congregation of 5:00PM John Naylor, Month’s Mind the Sisters of the Holy Family; Brazil’s Sister Tommy Collet Dulce Lopes Pontes (1914-1992); and Switzerland’s Margherita Bays (1815-1879), a SUN., OCT. 27th Thirtieth Sunday laywoman. The fourth woman, Saint in Ordinary Time Marguerite Bays, Pope Francis said, “was a 8:00AM Jim Cameron seamstress” and “she speaks to us of the Carol Shimmin power of simple prayer, enduring patience and silent self-giving. That is how the Lord Baptism: Madison Patricia Krivi made the splendor of Easter radiate in her 9:45AM Richard Harrigan life.” Thousands of people gather for these Joseph Beard ceremonies which are carried out with great 11:45AM David Paul Neely, 5th Anniversary ceremony and great joy. • Martyrology 12 09 19
Martyrology An Anglican Martyrology - for the British Isles 1 of 160 Martyrology Introduction The base text is the martyrology compiled by Fr. Hugh Feiss, OSB. Copyright © 2008 by the Monastery of the Ascension, Jerome, ID 83338 and available online at the website of the Monastery of Christ in the Desert. The calendars of each of the three Anglican churches of the British isles contain varied group commemorations, I suggest these entries are read only in the province where they are observed and have indicated that by the use of italics and brackets. However, people, particularly in the Church of England, are woefully ignorant of the history of the other Anglican churches of our islands and it would be good if all entries for the islands are used in each province. The Roman dates are also indicated where these vary from Anglican ones but not all those on the Roman Calendar have an entry. The introductions to the saints and celebrations in the Anglican calendars in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales in Exciting Holiness, ed. Brother Tristam SSF, The Canterbury Press, 1997, have been added where a saint did not already appear in the martyrology. These have been adapted to indicate the place and date of death at the beginning, as is traditional at the reading of the martyrology. For the place of death I have generally relied on Wikipedia. For Irish, Welsh and Scottish celebrations not appearing in Exciting Holiness I have used the latest edition of Celebrating the Saints, Canterbury Press, 2004. These entries are generally longer than appear in martyrologies and probably need editing down even more than I have done if they are to be read liturgically.

Besides God revealed to her son‟s divine and human nature. Mary placed her trust in Jesus. Nothing could shake her from being closely attached to him. Mary followed Jesus resolutely. She is considered an exemplary disciple of Jesus. Her discipleship cost her everything. She stood by Jesus at the agonizing time of his crucifixion.

The Church and Consecrated Life are at the forefront in Protecting children and vulnerable adults. The care for unaccompanied foreign minors fits into this broader context and is a very topical phenomenon. We believe it is very important to know and understand this phenomenon, starting with the causes that determine it and seeing the different perspectives from which it could be studied and addressed. As women, we have the natural instinct to protect children, and being consecrated we are called to live our lives as “the presence of Christ’s charity in the midst of humanity,” to sow hope, and to bring new life in the contexts of poverty and marginalization that our globalized world places before our eyes. As consecrated women, we, therefore, have much to offer to our suffering humanity, and we do this together, by creating “sorority”, forming networks of communion and collaboration that will give us incisiveness and strength, and keep us from falling prey to the temptation of staying away from the wounds of Christ: “Sometimes we are tempted to be that kind of Christian who keeps the Lord’s wounds at arm’s length.
