Today, this examination is also offered to different organizations and in almost all of John C. Maxwell the countries in the Middle East. Leadership is to create greater value for people around you. In PSME, these people are the members. To be continued in the next issue… When I initially joined PSME in 1987, I was inactive but in 1992 I had the opportunity to become a member of PSME – Saudi Arabia Chapter which gave me the chance to discover what leadership is all about, the PSME way. While learning by doing in PSME, I also applied the knowledge and skills I learned from the company where I worked. I am a member of PSME – SA for two years before seeking an elective position. In 1994 I became an auditor, in 1995 a Secretary, and in 1996 elected as a Chapter President. It is on these years where I learned the way of PSME. All throughout, I followed the directions of our National Leaders and followed the decisions of the supreme members. After then, we showed the way by leading all the chapters in the Middle East. Qualities of a Leader: (First Part) 1. A leader must be CONFIDENT enough to ensure that others follow his command. Members are looking for their leaders to be decisive, matured in thinking, knows what he is doing, firm and bold in his decision, and always think of what is the best for his people. 2. A Leader must have COMMITMENT and PASSION. PSME as an organization needs committed leaders. A leader who dedicates his life to the Society all the way. He must have a Passion to serve not only during his term but even after his term. 3. A Leader should INSPIRE others. In order to inspire members of PSME, leaders must be visible in every chapter activities. He must be with them especially in times of need. In difficult times, he is the source of strength. With new learnings gained, PSME Marikina will start capacitating its members and embark on outreach learning session on emergency preparedness for targeted beneficiaries within the chapter’s area. This is very important as the areas covered by the chapter are frequently visited by natural disasters. The group was also fortunate as the 2019 PhilConstruct was ongoing in the nearby ASEAN Convention Center. After the PDRF tour, the group proceed to one of the largest construction show in the country. It is noteworthy that in the construction industry, machineries and equipment are key component in ensuring safe and efficient execution and timely completion of projects. Thus, mechanical engineers have a lot to learn in new technologies and advancements showcased in the exhibit.
