front Page briefs Volunteer Opportunity on Hunter - Tree Planting.: The Savannah Tree Foundation is Training takes off donating 80 young trees to Hunter to enhance the beauty of the installation. Trees will be planted in the bare areas of the median on Billy Mitchell Blvd. New live oaks will also replace dying pear trees along the median. Coincidently, the donation comes after Hunter lost more than 200 trees (just in the cantonment area) during Hurricane Matthew. If you're interested in helping, meet at Hunter's Family Day Field, 8 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, to help plant, mulch and water these new trees. The holes will be dug, and no heavy work is required. Tools are provided; however, due to limited quantities, bring your own gloves, shovels, rakes and wheel barrows. You may also bring your children who are capable of helping. Make Hunter beautiful. Call 315-3739 to learn more.

Sports&RecreationDecember 1, 2016 82nd CA Bn Undefeated enjoys final Turkey Bowl

Maj. Davin Bridges, DrPH 82nd Civil Affairs

The 5th Annual 82nd Civil Affairs Turkey Bowl; where the unit officers take on the enlisted Soldiers in flag foot- ball, was a complete success for the officers, Nov. 23. Since the inception of the 82nd Civil Affairs Battalion in 2012, the enlisted Soldiers have always walked away with a win during the annual event. However, for the units last competition before inactivation in September 2017, the officers crushed the enlisted Soldiers, 32-12. The officers’ defense did its job, holding the enlisted Soldiers to only three first downs. The enlisted Soldiers’ offense could only muster two long scoring plays to put points on the board. The officers’ offense scored on almost every possession. The enlisted Soldiers’ team had no way to stop the officers’ relentless offensive capa- bilities. Friendly competition within the unit served as a bond- ing event for a unit that is inevitably going away. With 82nd CA in the process of inactivating being able to keep building Esprit de Corps within the unit is critical to ensure that teambuilding events maintain a strong cohe- sion between all the soldiers of 82nd CA.
