NDU VICE PRESIDENT Vice Fritz Roegge, USN

16th President

Vice Admiral Fritz Roegge is an honors graduate of the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and was commissioned through the Reserve Officers' Training program. He earned a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the Catholic University of America and a Master of Arts with highest distinction in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He was a fellow of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI program. Ashore, he has served on the staffs of both the Atlantic and the Pacific Submarine Force , on the staff of the director of Naval Nuclear Propulsion, on the Navy staff in the Assessments (N81) and the Military Personnel Plans and Policy Division (N13), in the Secretary of the Navy's Office of Legislative Affairs at the U. S, House of Representatives, as the head of the Submarine and Nuclear Power Distribution Division (PERS 42) at the Navy Personnel Command, and as an assistant deputy director on the Joint Staff in both the Strategy and Policy (J5) and the Regional Operations (J33) Directorates.

Roegge completed his first flag officer assignment as the deputy , Joint Functional Component Command for Global Strike at U.S. Strategic Command. He then served concurrently as commander, Submarine 8; commander , Allied Naval Forces South; deputy commander, U.S. 6th Fleet; and director of operations and intelligence (N3), U.S. Naval Forces Europe-. As a Rear Admiral (Upper Half) he served as director, Military Personnel Plans and Policy Division (N13) with a concurrent period as director, Total Force Manpower Division (N12) on the Navy Staff and then as Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

VADM Roegge assumed duties as the 16th President of the National Defense University on 25 Sep 2017. Ambassador Arnold Chacon Senior Vice President

Ambassador Chacon joined the National Defense University as its Senior Vice President in August 2018. He is a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service and holds the rank of Career Minister.

Prior to NDU, Ambassador Chacon served as Diplomat in Residence at Duke University and the University of at Chapel Hill. He has held senior leadership positions in the U.S. Department of State, including Chief of Mission in Guatemala and Chief Human Capital Officer. He is widely recognized for his expertise in Latin American and European affairs, talent management, communication strategies and building a diverse workforce.

As Director General of the Foreign Service from 2014-2017, Ambassador Chacon developed strategic guidance for the Human Resources Bureau of 900 employees who carry out the full range of human resources activities for the State Department’s 75,000 worldwide workforce. As Ambassador to Guatemala from 2011-2014, he implemented one of the largest economic development, counter-narcotics and rule of law programs in

1/2 , directing 500 staff and representing a dozen U.S. Government agencies. Prior to his service in Guatemala, he was Acting Ambassador and Deputy Chief of Mission in Spain, engaging a key NATO and EU ally on regional issues including counter-terrorism, the global financial crisis, , Middle East, Africa and Latin America. His other diplomatic assignments include postings to U.S. Missions in Honduras, Mexico, Chile, Italy, Peru, Ecuador and the United Nations. He also served as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the State Department’s Executive Secretariat and in the Bureaus of Western Hemisphere Affairs and European Affairs.

A life member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Ambassador Chacon has received numerous leadership awards, including the Presidential Rank Award, Superior Honor Awards and Performance Pay. He is a Boettcher Foundation Scholar and studied International Affairs at the University of Colorado where he was in the Presidents Leaders Class. His wife Alida Chacon is retired from the Foreign Service and they have three children.

SENIOR FELLOWS WILLIAM L. NYLAND GENERAL MARINE CORPS (RETIRED)

Former Assistant Commandant United States Marine Corps

General William L. "Spider" Nyland served as the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, Headquarters Marine Corps, , D.C. from September 2002 until September 2005. He retired from active duty 1 November 2005.

General Nyland was commissioned a Second in the Marine Corps under the NROTC program upon graduation from the University of New Mexico in 1968. In addition to attaining an M.S. degree from the University of Southern (1980), his formal military education includes The Basic School (1968), Flight Training (NFO) (1969), Amphibious Warfare School (1975), Navy Fighter Weapons School (TopGun) (1977), College of Naval Command and Staff, Naval War College (1981), and Air War College (1988).

After being assigned to VMFA-531, General Nyland was ordered to where he flew 122 combat missions with VMFA-314 and VMFA-115. In later tours of duty he flew additional combat sorties in Kosovo, and Afghanistan. General Nyland had multiple operational squadron tours and saw duty as the Congressional Liaison/Budget Officer, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, Washington, D.C. In 1984 he served as the Operations Officer, Marine Aircraft Group- 24, 1st Marine Amphibious , and he then commanded VMFA-232, the Marine Corps' oldest and most decorated fighter squadron, from July 1985 to July 1987.

General Nyland subsequently served as chief for the Central Command section, European Command/Central Command Branch, Joint Operations Division, Directorate of Operations (J-3), Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. In July 1990, he assumed command of Marine Aviation Training Support Group (MATSG), Pensacola. Following his command of MATSG he assumed duties as Chief of Staff, 2nd Marine Aircraft (2dMAW) on July 5, 1992, and assumed additional duties as Assistant Wing Commander on November 10, 1992. Promoted to on September 1, 1994, he was assigned as Assistant Wing Commander, 2nd MAW serving in that billet until December 1, 1995.

He served next on the Joint Staff, J-8, as the Deputy Director for Force Structure and Resources, completing that tour on June 30, 1997. He was advanced to on July 2, 1997, and assumed duties as the Deputy Commanding General, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He served next as the Commanding General, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing, MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina from July 1998 to June 2000. He was advanced to on 30 June 2000 and assumed duties as the Deputy Commandant for Programs and Resources, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps. He next assumed duties as the Deputy Commandant for Aviation on 3 August 2001. He was advanced to General on 4 September 2002 and assumed his duties as the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps on 10 September 2002.

Upon retirement he returned to Pensacola, FL, where he offers consulting services from his home office. He is a former fellow for the Institute of Defense & Business and served in an instructional role for Duke University (College of Continuing Education) in leadership training performed in support of BAE for four years. He is active as a Senior Mentor for the National Defense University in the “Capstone”, “Keystone” and “Pinnacle” programs. He formerly served as the Chairman of the Board for the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation (twice) and as the Chairman for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation. SERGEANT MAJOR PAUL MCKENNA

Sergeant Major Paul G. McKenna is the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Headquarters, North American Aerospace Defense Command and United States Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

He is the principal advisor to the Commander on all enlisted matters. His responsibilities include providing the Commander with the enlisted perspective on strategic vision, goals, objectives, security cooperation, and enlisted professional development. Additionally, he is responsible for mentoring Senior Enlisted Leaders throughout the Component Commands and JTF's as well as coordinating with Headquarters Staff Agencies, Commanders, and Senior Enlisted Personnel on matters pertaining to the command’s mission, vision, core values, commander’s intent, enlisted utilization and implementation of command policy.

Sergeant Major McKenna is a native of Trenton, NJ., where he enlisted in the Marine Corps on 18 March 1986.

CWO James M. Smith, MMM, CD

Chief James Smith enrolled in the Canadian Forces 25 May 1990, as an infantry soldier with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Halifax, NS. After completion of basic training in Cornwallis, NS and basic infantry training in Wainwright, AB, he was posted to the 2nd Battalion PPCLI at Kapyong in Winnipeg, MB.

In 2003, after serving in a variety of infantry positions including four operational tours to the Balkans, he was posted to 17 Wing, Winnipeg for French language training. Upon completion of French training, he was posted to Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in St-Jean-sur- Richelieu, QC as both a Platoon Commander for recruit training and as Platoon Second in Command for Basic officer training. In 2006, he was posted to JTF 2, where he was employed as the Unit Training WO and a Squadron Quartermaster.

In 2008, he returned to the 2nd Battalion PPCLI in Shilo MB. During his return to 2VP, he deployed to Afghanistan, on TF 3-09 with Alpha Company, within the Provincial Reconstruction Team as the Stabilization Company Quartermaster. He assumed the role of Company Sergeant Major Alpha Company upon his return from TF 3-09 in Jun 2010. He was promoted to Master Warrant Officer in Feb 2011. In Jun 2011, he was posted to Chief of Force Development as a Strategic Analyst for Capability and Structures Integration. In Jun 2013, he was transferred to Director General Military Careers to assume the responsibilities as the PPCLI career manager. Upon promotion to Chief Warrant Officer, on 11 Jun 2015, he was appointed as RSM of the 2nd Battalion PPCLI in Shilo, MB. From Aug 2016 to Mar 2017, he was deployed to Ukraine on Operation Unifier Roto 2 as the Task Force Sergeant-Major. In Jul 2017, he assumed his current responsibilities as Brigade Sergeant-Major of the Canadian Combat Support Brigade in Kingston, Ontario.

CWO Smith’s wife Manon-Danielle is also a serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces, and they have four adult children. He was awarded as Member of the Order of Military Merit from the 64th list in Dec 2013.

KEYSTONE STAFF Gerard “Gerry“ M. Mauer, Jr. Director Capstone, Keystone, Pinnacle

Rear Admiral Mauer retired from the Navy in March 2008 after over 31 years of service, which included extensive experience in fleet operations, resource management, technical innovation, Joint Professional Military Education (JPME), interagency coordination, and leading organizational change in NATO and joint commands.

From 2008 to 2011, RADM Mauer was a Group Vice President for Sabre Systems Inc. He was responsible for developing then implementing the corporate strategic plan and managing the Southeast Region’s profit and loss operations, its contracts, corporate business development, human resources programs, and Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) level III attainment. After leaving Sabre Systems, RADM Mauer had positions as an Associate with Burdeshaw Associates, as a Senior Analyst for Wikistrat, as a Board member and Board Tresurer for the Navy Safe Harbor Foundation, and as a representative and the national Co-Chair for the US Global Leadership Coalition’s Veterans for Smart Power.

Admiral Mauer’s last position in the Navy was from 2006 to 2008, when he served as the Commandant, Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF). He was responsible for executing the congressionally mandated and accredited master’s degree senior Professional Military Education curriculum. As a university leader, he directly supported the direction of the National Defense University and was a key member in the development of the University’s strategic plan.

From 2003 to 2006, he served as the NATO Allied Command Transformation’s Director, Joint Experimentation, Exercises, and Assessment, where he developed and implemented NATO’s largest Concept Development and Experimentation program. The scope included creating NATO’s transformation strategic vision and aligning the vision with its concepts and requirements. As a result of his initiatives, NATO rapidly implemented new processes, policies, and systems in support of its forces in Afghanistan and Iraq as well new capabilities to support its political and military infrastructure in NATO headquarters.

From 2001 to 2003, he was the Deputy, Directorate for Information Operations (J39/DDIO), Joint Staff Director of Operations (J-3) where he was responsible for direct coordination with the Office of the Secretary of Defense staff, Combatant Commands, and interagency organizations in their global information operations. In this capacity, his responsibilities also included supervision and operational coordination of the Joint Staff’s Special Technical Operations information system and its programs.

Admiral Mauer graduated from Villanova University and the Naval Postgraduate School. He was a Naval Aviator who commanded Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadrons SEVEN (HS-7) and TEN (HS-10) in addition to assignment as the Commanding Officer of USS NASSAU (LHA 4). He has vast experience at sea with deployments to the Atlantic Ocean, , and Arabian Gulf. Ashore assignments included: Naval Postgraduate School student, Assistant Program Manager for the Naval Air Systems Command SH-60F/H helicopter program (PMA 266), and Training Officer and Instructor Pilot in Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron ONE (HS-1). He started with Capstone in August of 2016.

1 Michael Patykula Keystone / Pinnacle Program Manager

Michael Patykula is the Program Manager for the KEYSTONE and PINNACLE courses at the National Defense University, and he provides daily support to the CAPSTONE Program.

Prior to joining the National Defense University, Mr. Patykula served as the Project Coordinator for the Army Office of Small Business Programs where he provided support to companies seeking contracts with the United States Army. From 2009-2014, Mr. Patykula was an Operations Coordinator for the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies. In this role, he provided administrative and logistical support for academic programs designed for senior government officials from the Americas.

Mr. Patykula holds a Master of Arts in Strategic Security Studies from the National Defense University, and a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from West Virginia University.

CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT JOHN C. ALSVIG

CMSgt John C. Alsvig is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, 35th Fighter Wing, Misawa , Japan. He serves as the senior enlisted advisor to the 35th Fighter Wing and Misawa Air Base installation commander on a 13,000-person base supporting eight associate units representing all four services and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. He is responsible for the leadership and development of the installation’s enlisted force, including two fighter squadrons, 35 support agencies and more than 4,000 personnel. Chief Alsvig serves as the primary communications link between the installation commander and the enlisted community, ensuring understanding and compliance with the commander's programs and policies. In addition, he advises the commander on important enlisted force issues and concerns, and also provides a critical interface with Japan Air Self-Defense Force senior enlisted leadership.

Chief Alsvig is from San Jose, California and enlisted in the Air Force in May 1995. His background includes various aircraft fuel systems career field duties, maintenance management and first sergeant. His assignments include bases in , Florida, Montana, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Germany. Chief Alsvig has deployed in support of Operation Joint Guard, Allied Force, Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, Joint Task Force Horn of Africa and Inherent Resolve.

Chief Master Sergeant Lisa R. Arnold is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), Los Angeles AFB, California. In this capacity, Chief Arnold serves as the senior enlisted leader to the SMC Commander. She advises and collaborates with the SMC Commander on all matters of professional development, work force utilization, military readiness, morale, welfare, and mission effectiveness of over 6000 personnel assigned to three stateside locations. CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT JESSICA L. BENDER

Chief Master Sergeant Jessica L. Bender is the Command Chief Master Sergeant for the 18th Wing, , Okinawa, Japan. The 18th Wing, the largest combat wing in the U.S. Air Force, provides the Commander, U.S. Pacific Command, trained and equipped tactical air superiority forces; combat forces; command and control platforms; capability; and global mobility resources for contingency operations. Chief Bender serves as the installation's senior enlisted liaison between the 18th Wing and enlisted personnel from five other Air Force major commands and joint partner units. The wing flies the F-15C, KC-135, HH-60 and E-3 aircraft. Additionally, the wing provides the 5th Air Force Commander a responsive, staging and operational air base with integrated, deployable, forward-based air power. Chief Bender is the principal advisor to the commander and senior staff on operational matters and issues affecting the morale, welfare, safety compliance, and effective utilization of more than 6,000 total force personnel.

Chief Bender was raised in Hudson, Wisconsin and entered active duty service in March of 1992. Her background includes experience at varying levels in the Command and Control career field, as well as leadership positions including the Career Assistance Advisor, MAJCOM Functional Manager and Operations Group Superintendent. She has completed overseas tours in Japan, Italy and the United Kingdom, as well as deployments for humanitarian support and contingency operations in , Iraq, and Turkmenistan.

CMDCM(AW/SW) Benjamin H. Bilyeu Command Master Chief Carrier Air Wing ONE (CVW-1)

Command Master Chief Bilyeu is a native of Kansas City, MO and enlisted into the in 1996. He is a graduate from the Recruit Training Command and Airman Apprenticeship Training School located in Great Lakes, IL.

He then reported to the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) in Bremerton, WA from February 1997 to October 2002. While assigned as a Crash and Salvage Crewman, he executed the 1997-1998 Around the World combat deployment in support of , and advanced from an undesignated Airman Recruit to an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Petty Officer Second Class.

His follow-on tour was Navy Recruiting District Kansas City from December 2002 to December 2005. In June 2005, he was advanced to First Class Petty Officer.

He then reported to the USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) in Norfolk, VA from December 2005 to October 2011. In September 2008, he was inducted into the CPO Mess as a Chief. While assigned as the Crash and Salvage LCPO and a Flight Deck Aircraft Director, he provided humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to the country of Haiti in support of Operation UNIFIED RESPONSE, and executed the 2010-2011 combat deployment in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and NEW DAWN.

His follow-on tour was Naval Support Activity Washington in Washington D.C. from October 2011 to April 2014. In July 2012, he was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer. While there, he served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader at the Washington Navy Yard from June 2013 to November 2013. During which time, on 16 September 2013 he provided sound council to his Commanding Officer throughout the Washington Navy Yard “Active Shooter” attack, the largest attack in history on a naval installation. In February 2014, he was selected into the Command Senior Chief program.

He then reported as the Command Senior Chief to the Bloodhounds of Air Test and Evaluation Squadron THREE ZERO (VX-30) in Point Mugu, CA from June 2014 to October 2016. In May 2015, he was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer.

His follow-on tour was the Command Master Chief to the Fighting Blacklions of Strike Fighter Squadron TWO ONE THREE (VFA-213) in Virginia Beach, VA from October 2016 to May 2018. While there, he executed a seven-month combat deployment aboard USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN 77) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.

He then reported as the Command Master Chief to Carrier Air Wing ONE (CVW-1) in Virginia Beach, VA in June 2018. While there, he executed the Navy’s first Dynamic Force Employment (DFE) combat deployment aboard USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.

He is a graduate from the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 180 - Khaki Group), and CMC/COB Capstone Course (Class 131), located at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI.

Master Chief Brown is from Joplin, Missouri and enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1997. Following completion of training at Recruit Training Command and Naval Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, Illinois where he completed Recruit Training and Hospital Corpsman “A” School, he reported to Field Medical Service School, Camp Johnson, North Carolina. In July of 2000, he completed Physical Therapy Technician “C” School in , Texas and in 2004, he completed Preventive Medicine Technician “C” School in San Diego, California.

Duty assignments include Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, from December 1997 to December 1999. Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, North Carolina from July 2000 to May 2004. During this tour he deployed with Fleet Hospital 20 from May to October 2002 in support of detainee operations at Camp Delta, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. His first operational command was with the Forward Deployed Naval Forces onboard the USS ESSEX (LHD-2), Sasebo, Japan from January 2005 to December 2007. During this tour he constantly deployed in support of exercises and real world contingencies in the U.S. Pacific and Central Commands. He served as an Instructor at Naval Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, Illinois from January 2008 to March 2011. During this tour he deployed to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, Camp Lemonnier, from September 2009 to January 2011. 3rd Marine Logistics Group, G-3 Operations, Health Service Support Element, Okinawa, Japan from May 2011 to March 2014. During this tour he deployed with 1st Maintenance Battalion as the Battalion Chief and the Leading Chief Petty Officer of the 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward) Combined Aid Station, Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan from January to September 2012. The Bureau of Medicine and Surgery as the Senior Enlisted Leader for M12 Human Resources Manpower Plans and Business Policy, Falls Church, Virginia from March 2014 to February 2017. During this tour he deployed as the Command Senior Chief of the NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit, Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan from February to October 2016. Marine Aircraft Group 12 as the Navy Senior Enlisted Leader, Iwakuni, Japan from March 2017 to August 2018. He assumed his current duties as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of the Uniformed Services University, Bethesda, Maryland in September 2018.

Master Chief Brown is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy and the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course. He is qualified Surface Warfare, Fleet Marine Force, Aviation Warfare, Expeditionary Warfare and certified as a Master Training Specialist. He holds a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with an emphasis in Health Care Management. Additionally, he is appointed Assistant Professor at the College of Allied Health Sciences, Uniformed Services University. AARON P. BUELOW

Sergeant Major Aaron P. Buelow is the Senior Enlisted Leader of Joint Training and Exercises for North American Aerospace Defense Command and United States Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, CO.

He is the principal advisor to the Director on all enlisted matters. His responsibilities include providing the Director with the enlisted perspective on strategic vision, goals, objectives, and enlisted professional development throughout the directorate’s five divisions. Additionally, he is responsible for mentoring enlisted service members throughout the J7 Directorate on matters pertaining to the directorate’s mission, vision, core values, director’s intent, enlisted utilization and implementation of policy.

SGM Buelow graduated Magna Cum Laude from Trident University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Leadership, and is currently pursuing his Master’s in Business Administration.

Command Master Chief Ryan Burton Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Three

Command Master Chief Ryan Burton is a native of Bend, Oregon graduating from Redmond Senior High School in 1992. He enlisted in the Navy in 1993 and attended Navy Recruit Training Command San Diego, California followed by Aviation Ordnanceman “A” School located in Millington, Tennessee.

Burton’s first assignment was to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Fifteen (HS-15) in Jacksonville, Florida. HS-15 was attached to Carrier Air Wing Seventeen (CAG 17) onboard the USS SARATOGA (CV-60) in support of operations DENY FLIGHT and PROVIDE PROMISE. HS-15 and CAG 17 was then reassigned to the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65) during operations DECISIVE ENDEAVOR and DESERT STRIKE/SOUTHERN WATCH. Following his first tour Burton was selected for recruiting duty at Navy Recruiting District Portland, Oregon and later reported to the USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70) located in Bremerton, WA. During this assignment the ship and her crew launched the first airstrikes in support of operation ENDURING FREEDOM, and Burton was selected to attend Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) School.

In February 2003, Burton attended Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center (NDSTC), Panama City Beach, Florida and then Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (NAVSCOLEOD) in Eglin, Florida. After graduation, he was assigned to EOD Mobile Unit 2 nd where he deployed twice as EOD team leader in support of the 22 Marine Expeditionary Unit st and the Army’s 321 Battalion to Al Anbar Province, Iraq.

In 2007 he transferred and became a plank owner of EOD Mobile Unit 12, deploying twice as a Platoon and Company Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO) to Baquba and Tikrit, Iraq. Then in 2010 he was then assigned to EOD Training and Evaluation Unit 2 where he served as the Director of Training LCPO, where he was selected to Master Chief Petty Officer in 2013.

In October 2013, Burton was selected to serve as the first Command Master Chief (CMC) of Mine Counter Measure Squadron 5/CTF-52 located in Bahrain. Following a successful tour in November 2014, he was assigned to EOD Mobile Unit 12 deploying as CMC in support of CTG 68.3/5 CJTF-HOA and CTG 56.1. Since January 2018, Burton serves as CMC for EOD Mobile Unit 3 where he deployed in support of CTG 56.1.

CMC Burton has completed the Executive and Joint Forces Leadership Symposium, Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy, and Command Leadership School. His awards include Bronze Star (3), Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4, one combat “V”), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6), and several Unit and Campaign awards.

BUTLER DEFENSE LOGISTICS AGENCY, JOINT RESERVE FORCES Command Master Chief Butler a native of Hebron, Maryland, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1988 through the Delayed Entry Program. In 1989, he graduated from Mardela High School and Basic Training in Great Lakes, Illinois. He later was an Honor Graduate from Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 12), Naval Leadership and Ethics Center, Command Leadership Course, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from National University. Command Master Chief Butler completed Active Component sea duty assignments onboard USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) and USS Valley Forge (CG 50), and a shore tour with Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity, San Diego, California. Reserve Component assignments include Inshore Boat Unit SEVENTEEN, Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit THREE ZERO THREE, 30th Naval Construction Regiment, Maritime Civil Affairs Squadron ONE, U. S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Cargo Afloat Rig Team THREE, Cargo Handling Battalion FOURTEEN, and Coastal Riverine Squadron ONE. Master Chief Butler served with Joint Logistics Task Force FIVE throughout Afghanistan, , Kuwait, and Germany as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. He is designated as an Expeditionary, Information, Seabee, Fleet Marine, and Surface Warfare Specialist. Command Master Chief Butler has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (8th award), Combat Action Ribbon, and various other campaign, command, and personal awards. Command Master Chief Ervin H. Byrd

U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet

Master Chief Ervin H. Byrd III grew up in Florida and enlisted in the Navy in 1989. Upon completion of Basic Training, he reported to Naval Training Center Millington, Tennessee for Aviation Structural Mechanic “A” School. He reported to Fighter Squadron FOUR THREE where he promoted to Third Class Petty Officer. He then reported to USS (LPH 9), completing three deployments to the Mediterranean Sea and from 1992-1998 and promoting to Second Class Petty Officer.

He then served as a Recruiter at Navy Recruiting District Raleigh, North Carolina, followed by a tour to Patrol Squadron THREE ZERO in Jacksonville, Florida from 1998 to 2001, where he was promoted to First Class Petty Officer.

From 2001 to 2005, he served as a Safe-for-Flight Technician for Patrol Squadron FOUR in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He completed two Middle East and Western Pacific deployments and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer. From 2005 to 2007, he served as Intermediate Maintenance TWO Division Leading Chief aboard USS NASSAU (LHA 4), home-ported in Norfolk, Virginia, completing Mediterranean and Persian Gulf deployment. He then transferred to Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing ELEVEN (CPRW-11), where he was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia University, Jacksonville Campus.

From 2010 to 2014, he served as Quality Assurance Supervisor, Maintenance Control Supervisor and Maintenance Master Chief for Patrol Squadron SIXTEEN in Jacksonville, Florida, where he promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer. During this tour he completed three deployments to the FIFTH, SIXTH, and SEVENTH Fleet areas of responsibility.

From 2014 to 2017, he served as the Command Master Chief for Patrol Squadron FOUR FIVE in Jacksonville, Florida, where he completed two deployments to the SIXTH and SEVENTH Fleet areas of responsibility. From 2017 to 2019 he served as the Command Master Chief aboard USS (LHD 7) and is currently the Command Master Chief at U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. FOURTH Fleet in Mayport, Florida.

CSM MICHAEL J. COFFEY Command Sergeant Major

Command Sergeant Major Coffey enlisted in the United States Army in January of 1994. David Conduff Command Master Chief

Command Master Chief David Conduff is a native of Tucson, Arizona. He enlisted in the Navy in November 1991 and attended Recruit Training in Orlando, Florida. Upon completion of Hull Maintenance Technician "A" School in April 1992 he reported to his first ship, USS MCKEE (AS 41). After two years on MCKEE, Master Chief Conduff completed Non-Destructive Testing of Metals, Hull Technician "C" school.

Master Chief Conduff’s sea tours include: USS CAPE COD (AD 43), USS SHENANDOAH (AD 44), USS ESSEX (LHD 2), USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA 3), USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74) and USS NIMITZ (CVN 68). He earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Qualification on CAPE COD and his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Qualification on ESSEX. He was selected to Chief Petty Officer in 2002 while serving onboard BELLEAU WOOD. Shore assignments include: Navy Recruiting District - Recruiting Station Lufkin, Texas as Recruiter in Charge and Ship Intermediate Maintenance Activity San Diego, Submarine Maintenance Department, Ballast Point, Point Loma, California as Ship’s Superintendent.

Master Chief Conduff was selected to the Command Master Chief program in 2012 and served as CMC for VFA-14 from January, 2014 to March 2016 and Strike Fighter Squadron ONE TWO TWO (VFA 122) until April 2018 when he reported to Strike Fighter Wing Pacific as Command Master Chief.

Master Chief Conduff’s academic achievements include a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Columbia Southern University. He is a graduate of the Navy's Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 132, Khaki). CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT MICHAEL E. CORNITIUS JR.

Chief Master Sergeant Michael E. Cornitius Jr. is the Texas Military Department Command Senior Enlisted Leader, , Austin, Texas. He is the principal enlisted advisor to The Adjutant General and leader for more than 19,000 Army and Air enlisted personnel in the Guard and State Guard. His responsibilities include advising The Adjutant General on all matters affecting the readiness, training, professional development and effective utilization of assigned enlisted personnel and coordinating with the joint headquarters staff, commanders, and senior personnel on administration and implementation of command policy.

Chief Cornitius entered the U.S. Air Force in 1988 and served as a certified Secure Communications Specialist. He was then assigned to the 1882nd Communications Squadron at , Texas. Without a break in service, Chief Cornitius enlisted in the Texas in 1991 as a traditional guardsman. He served on numerous deployments and homeland missions including CORONET NIGHTHAWK to Panama in 1997 and 1999, as well as Operations SOUTHERN WATCH in 2000 and NOBLE EAGLE in 2001. In addition, Chief deployed to Iraq twice, in 2005 and 2007, following the 9/11 attacks in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. He has held leadership positions at all levels to include Group Quality Assurance Weapons Inspector, Weapons Element Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Superintendent, and Wing Weapons Manager. He was the direct link for the Air National Guard as the Systems Program Office Contact field representative on any weapons related issues for remotely piloted aircraft. Chief Cornitius has held positions as the Command Chief Master Sergeant for the 147th Attack Wing and the State of Command Chief Master Sergeant prior to his current position.

Chief Cornitius has been employed with the Houston Fire Department for 26 years. As a City of Houston firefighter, he was selected by district chiefs to become one of the first Incident Command Technicians to work hand in hand with the district chiefs on fire scenes in directing fire ground operations. He has also been an active member of the League City Volunteer Fire Department since 2001. He was elected by the department membership to serve as a station captain responsible for the training of all members assigned and held this position for the last 11 years.

Chief Master Sergeant Troie Croft is the Command Chief Master Sergeant for the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Command Sergeant Major Marlo V. Cross entered the United States Air Force in February of 1984. He attended basic training and training for Military Police at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and received additional Emergency Response Specialty Training at Camp Bullis, Texas.

Command Sergeant Major Cross served more than 8 years on Active Duty; his first assignment was with the 4392 Security Police Squadron, (SAC) at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. His assignments included Base Security, Patrol, Missile Security, and the Operations Center NCO for the Defense Program. Command Sergeant Major Cross was instrumental in security operations for the first Shuttle program on the West Coast (The U.S Enterprise). He was also a member of the Emergency Service’s Team (EST) and was selected as an Aide-de-camp for the Commanding General of Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Command Sergeant Major Cross entered the United States Army Reserve in 1992, as a Combat Medic and his initial duty assignment was the 349th General Hospital in Los Angeles, California. He was later selected for Drill Sergeant Duty, and assigned to the 104th Division, San Jose, California, performing Drill Sergeant Duties at Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, , Oklahoma, , Kentucky, and Reserve Officer Training Corps missions at Fort Lewis, Washington. Command Sergeant Major Cross also served with the 4211th U. S. Army Hospital as the Company First Sergeant, the Hospital First Sergeant and the acting Command Sergeant Major. Command Sergeant Major Cross has held every leadership position there is in his Military Career.

Command Sergeant Major Cross served in Operation Enduring Freedom as the NCOIC of the Joint Operations Center (JOC), Combined Forces Command in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2005. In March of 2007, Command Sergeant Major Cross was selected as the first Battalion Command Sergeant Major of the 98th Signal Battalion as it stood up in Mesa, Arizona.

In August of 2010, Command Sergeant Major Cross was vetted through a vigorous selection process for a high visibility and challenging assignment as the Command Sergeant Major for the Warrior Transition Battalion where he was responsible for upwards of 500+ Wounded Warriors and over 120 civilian and military personnel at any given time. In September of 2012, he was selected for the Medical Readiness and Training Command (MRTC), a One Star Nominative level CSM Position. In 2015, Command Sergeant Major Cross was selected to be the first Army Reserve Command Sergeant Major for Army Reserve Medical Command (ARMEDCOM), a Two Star Nominative level CSM Position previously only held by AGR Command Sergeants Major. Command Sergeant Major Cross has held every level of Leadership positions and is now currently serving as the 807 MC (DS) Command Sergeant Major.

U N I T E D S T A T E S A I R F O R C E CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT DEREK T. CROWDER Chief Master Sergeant Derek T. Crowder is the Command Chief Master Sergeant for the , , California. He is the primary advisor to the commander on matters concerning force utilization, readiness, training, career progression, and quality of life for more than 5,100 enlisted men and women. The wing is responsible for conducting operations and support activities associated with the worldwide air mobility mission. The wing’s assigned aircraft include the C- 5, KC-10 and C-17. These airframes participate in air, land and aerial refueling tasking’s, responding to - directed combat operations, and support U.S. State Department-sponsored humanitarian relief efforts worldwide.

Chief Crowder grew up in Argenta, Illinois and entered the Air Force in January of 1994. His background includes various duties in Materiel Management at the unit and Major Command level. Throughout his career he has also filled roles outside of Materiel Management to include Airman Leadership Instructor and Flight Chief. WO1 (RSM) Douglas Davitt joined the in March 1985. On passing out for duty in Nov 1985 he joined 42 Commando as a rifleman. During his time in the Unit he deployed to Norway conducting Arctic Warfare training and a Jungle Warfare course in Brunei. In 1987 he joined 6 Assault Squadron deploying on numerous exercises throughout the Mediterranean and Norway as a member of the Beach Recce Team. 1989 saw him drafted to Hong Kong for two years as a Fast Pursuit Craft coxswain conducting anti smuggling operations.

Following his Junior Command Course and Specialisation training in 1991 he joined 4 Assault Squadron. The next 18 months saw him deploy again on numerous exercises to the Mediterranean and Norway. From 1993 to 1996 he served at RM deploying on various operations and exercising in Norway, Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean and also completing his Specialisation and Senior Command Course.

In Jan 1997 the next 15 months saw him deployed to Northern Ireland on Operation Lifespan as a Patrol Boat and Multiple Commander. On his return from Northern Ireland in April 1998 he undertook language training prior to spending the next 2 years with his family in North Holland on exchange with the Royal Marine Corps as the senior Instructor. On his return to the UK in October 2000 he took up the position of Course Instructor at 10 Training Squadron and on promotion to in Dec 2001 assumed the post of Senior Instructor responsible for the training of all Officer and SNCO Specialisation Courses.

On completion of his Advanced Command Course in February 2004 he returned to 6 Assault Squadron as the Squadron Sergeant Major participating on numerous exercises including Norway and United States and Cold Weather trials and training in Newfoundland.

In Nov 2005 he deployed for a 6 month tour on OP MONOGRAM as the Detachment Sergeant Major of a small team in Yemen providing training to the Yemeni Coast Guard. On his return to the UK he was drafted to 1 AGRM as 10 Training Squadron Sergeant Major. In 2008 he joined 40 Commando as a Company Sergeant Major deploying on EX TAURUS to the Mediterranean and Far East. Whilst deployed on OP HERRICK 12 he assumed the duties of FOB Jackson Sergeant Major and stood in as RSM in his absence. In 2011 he was successful at the WO1 Regimental Sergeant Major selection board and subsequently appointed as an RSM in the following appointments: Royal Marine Reserves, Commando Logistic Regiment, 42 Commando, 1 Assault Group Royal Marines and Commando Training Centre Royal Marines. In May 2019 he took up the appointment of Command Warrant Officer to Commander Joint Forces Command.

WO1 (CWO) Davitt is married with a daughter and lives in North . In his spare time he is a Bath Rugby supporter and fair weather cyclist!

CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT JAMES E. FITCH II

CMSgt James “Bill” Fitch is the Command Chief Master Sergeant for the , Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL), New Jersey. As the Senior Enlisted Leader of the DOD’s sole Tri-Service Joint Base, he is the principle advisor to the installation commander. The wing provides civil engineering, mission support, and medical services to more than 80 mission partners and 42,000 active duty, reserve, guard, civilians, retirees and family members residing on JB MDL with an infrastructure valued at $9 billion. He is also entrusted with the combat readiness, organization, training, professional development and effective utilization of more than 1,200 enlisted Airmen and Sailors. Additionally, he is the functional manager of 21 First Sergeants who maintain a mission ready force and support the military community’s quality of life needs.

Chief Fitch entered the Air Force in November 1995, and his background includes duties as an Evaluator/Instructor Boom Operator with over 3600 hours in KC-135R/T aircraft. His assignments include bases in North Dakota, Texas, England, Hawaii, Washington and Maryland. He has 16 deployments supporting Operations SOUTHERN/NORTHERN WATCH, DESERT FOX, ALLIED FORCE, ENDURING/IRAQI FREEDOM and JOINT GUARDIAN. Prior to assuming his current position, he served as the Command Chief, , Joint Base Andrews, Maryland.

Command Sergeant Major Flournoy serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Special Operations Command Central. He enlisted in the Army in 1988. After finishing his first tour in Fulda, Germany, he successfully completed the Special Forces Assessment and Selection in 1991 and eventually graduating the Special Forces Medical Sergeant Course earning his Green Beret in 1993.

Command Sergeant Major Flournoy has served in the roles of both Junior and Senior Medical Sergeants on four separate Operational Detachments-Alpha. He was the Operations Sergeant for Operational Detachment-Alpha 091, the First Sergeant for Headquarters Support Company, 3rd Battalion, Company Sergeant Major for A Company, 3rd Battalion, and finally the Command Sergeant Major for 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Force Group (Airborne) over the span of 18 years. He also served as a Military Free Fall Instructor and Detachment NCOIC while assigned to the 1st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne) where he also served as a Battalion Command Sergeant Major within the Training Group. He served in multiple contingencies in Bosnia, Mauritania, Senegal, Morocco and Niger. He also has combat experience in Operations PROVIDE COMFORT, IRAQI FREEDOM, NEW DAWN and Operation RESOLUTE SUPPORT and FREEDOM SENTINEL. His last assignment was serving as the U.S. Special Operations Command J-3, Operations Directorate, Senior Enlisted Advisor.

CSM Flournoy’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with six oak leaf clusters, the Joint Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with V device, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Joint Service Achievement Medal and the Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster. Chief Warrant Officer, Sherri Forward, CD Joint Task Force North Formation Chief Warrant Officer

Chief Warrant Officer Sherri Forward comes from Cormorant, a small community in Northern Manitoba. She joined the Canadian Forces in November of 1989 as a Traffic Technician. Upon completion of recruit, language and trades training, her first posting was to Canadian Armed Forces Base Kingston in Feb of 1992 where she spent the first 7 years of her career.

Promoted to MCpl in 1999 she was posted to 1 Air Movements Squadron, 17 Wing Winnipeg where she was employed as part of a MAMS team. During her time with 1 Air Movements Squadron she was deployed on several exercises and operations as well as a tour to the Golan Heights in 2001. In 2003 she was promoted to the rank of Sgt.

With the closing of 1 Air Movements Squadron in 2006 she was posted to 2 Service Battalion at Garrison Petawawa where she served as the Movements Platoon Operations Sgt and then as the 2 I/C of the Movements Platoon when she was promoted to WO in 2006. In 2008 she did a tour in Afghanistan as the Traffic Platoon WO with the National Support Element and upon her return from tour she went onto serve as the G3 Mov, at 2 Area Support Group Headquarters in Petawawa.

After a yearlong French course in 2011 and promotion to MWO, she was posted to Canadian Materiel Support Group Headquarters (CMSG HQ) in Ottawa where she spent the next 4 years working in a Compliance and Performance Measurement Capacity in the J4 Transportation organization. During her tenure with CMSG she had the privilege to attend the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany where she completed the NATO NCO Advanced Senior Leadership Course as well as the NATO Movements Course.

In July of 2015, she was posted to 1 Canadian Air Division Headquarters as the A4 Mov 3, in May of 2016 she was promoted to the rank of CWO where she assumed the role as the A4 Logistics Directorate CWO. CWO Forward also served as the RCAF Air Logistics Assistant Co-Advisor.

In the summer of 2018 CWO Forward reported for duty as the Joint Task Force North Formation CWO in Yellowknife.

She and her husband Major Jim Quinn have embraced the Northern Experience.

SERGEANT MAJOR STUART D. GLASS

Stuart D. Glass is a native of Janesville, Iowa. He enlisted in September 1992 and underwent recruit training with Company I, 3d Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California.

In March 1993, Sergeant Major Glass completed machinegun training aboard Camp Pendleton, California. He was ordered to Company I, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii for duty. He served in multiple billets within the Machinegun Section and deployed twice to the West Pacific.

Sergeant Major Glass transferred in May of 1996 to Company I, Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, California. As a Squad and Platoon Instructor, he provided instruction on basic infantry tactics to thousands of entry level Marines. In December of 1998, he completed training at Infantry Platoon Sergeants Course and the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion Sapper Leaders Course. He then reported to Company C, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines. There he filled various billets within Weapons Platoon and deployed with the 13th and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Middle East.

Sergeant Major Glass then reported to Special Operations Training Group, G-7, I Marine Expeditionary Force on September 2002. He served as an Amphibious Raid Instructor responsible for training, evaluating, and certifying the combat capabilities of the Ground Combat Element of Marine Expeditionary Units.

Sergeant Major Glass was then assigned to 2d Battalion, 5th Marines in August 2005. As the Company Gunnery Sergeant with Company G, he participated in humanitarian relief in Leyte, with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, combat operations in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08, and training with the Kuwaiti and Jordanian military while deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Promoted to the rank of First Sergeant in September 2008, Sergeant Major Glass transferred to Pensacola, Florida. He served as the Squadron First Sergeant for Aviation Maintenance Squadron Two. His tour in Pensacola allowed him the opportunity to participate in the intricacies of the Air Traffic Control and Avionics community.

Sergeant Major Glass transferred to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion in June 2011. He deployed as the Company First Sergeant, Mobility Assault Company in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2012. He assumed his current rank in July 2013 and has served as the Battalion Sergeant Major of 1st Intelligence Battalion, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, and Task Force Sergeant Major for Marine Rotational Force-Darwin Sergeant Major. He assumed the post of the 11th Marines Sergeant Major on 28 April 2017.

Sergeant Major Glass is a graduate of the Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy and is an alumnus of Norwich University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis.

19th ESC Command Sergeant Major CSM LaDerek T. Green

CSM Green is a native of McComb, Mississippi and enlisted into the United States Army in 1991. He graduated Basic Training from , Missouri, and Advanced Individual Training from Huntsville, Alabama as an Ammunition Stock Accountant Specialist. He later re-classed to the Military Occupational Specialty of Motor Transport Operator.

During his career, CSM Green served in a variety of NCO leadership positions and assignments, all with distinction. His many assignments include service with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment’s, Regimental Support Squadron as Truck Master, and in the 94th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade, 10th Mountain Infantry Division as SPO NCOIC and First Sergeant. Additionally, SGM Green’s assignments include service with the Combined Arms Support Command as First Sergeant, the Army Best Warrior Competition at , Virginia as Operations Sergeant Major, the 595th Transportation Brigade at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait as Operations Sergeant Major and Senior Transportation Supervisor; 330th Transportation BN (MC), Ft Bragg, NC as Battalion Command Sergeant Major, 595th Transportation Brigade at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait as Brigade Command Sergeant Major, and the NCO Leadership CoE & USASMA (Department of Command Leadership) Facilitator.

CSM Green’s deployments include: Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia; Operation Joint Guard in Kosovo; Operation Iraqi Freedom (two tours), and Operation Enduring Freedom.

CSM Green is a graduate of numerous educational courses, to include the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 64, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management (Magna Cum Lade), a Master of Arts degree in Management and Leadership, Liberty University (High Distinction), and earned a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.

CSM Green is married to Viktoria Green and has two children named Alex and Destiny.

COMMAND CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT WINFIELD S. HINKLEY JR.

Chief Master Sergeant Winfield S. Hinkley Jr. serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of the Alaska National Guard. He serves as a special staff advisor to the Adjutant General on all matters affecting the enlisted force and their families. He represents the highest level of enlisted leadership and oversees the combat readiness, health, welfare, development and quality of life for more than 4,100 assigned Air Force and Army personnel across the state of Alaska.

Chief Hinkley entered the Air Force in August 1992 and attended the Materiel Management Apprentice course, graduating November 1992. He has also served an Enlisted Professional Military Education instructor during his tenure. He supported multiple major commands during his 26 years of service and ten assignments, providing contingency supply support during Operation SOUTHERN WATCH, , Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Operation NEW DAWN and multiple missions supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. He also provided logistical assistance to top Department of Defense personnel completing missions to the Air Force’s Central Command. Chief Hinkley has served at the flight, squadron and national leadership levels and holds three Air Force Specialty Codes. Chief Hinkley transitioned to the Alaska Air National Guard in 2013 and has been an integral member of the wing and the Air National Guard in operational support, leadership and professional development of all members. Prior to his current position, Chief Hinkley was assigned to the Air National Guard Readiness Center’s Statutory Tour program where he served as the 15th Commandant of the CMSgt Paul H. Lankford Enlisted Professional Military Education Center at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard base in Knoxville Tennessee.

CMC William Hollandsworth United States Coast Guard Command Master Chief 1st Coast Guard District

Master Chief William D. Hollandsworth assumed his duties as the Command Master Chief for the First Coast Guard District in June of 2018. His primary responsibility is to advise the Commander of the First Coast Guard District on the issues, policies, and initiatives pertaining to all Coast Guard members and their families throughout the District. The First District encompasses the Northeast United States from the Canadian Border to Northern New Jersey. Most recently Master Chief Hollandsworth served as the Command Master Chief for Training Center Cape May, the Coast Guard’s sole enlisted ascension point.

Master Chief first enlisted in the Coast Guard Reserves in 1988 and transferred onto active duty in 1991. Master Chief James enlisted in the Navy on October 26, 1992 and attended Recruit Training in Orlando Florida. Upon completion of Electrician’s Mate “A” school, he graduated from Naval , in Orlando, Florida and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Training Unit in Charleston, South Carolina.

In August 1994, he reported to USS BOISE (SSN 764) in Norfolk, Virginia. He completed two operational deployments in the North Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea, and Persian Gulf and qualified in “Submarines”, earning his Silver Dolphins. In October 1999, he reported onboard USS LA JOLLA (SSN 701), completing an Engineering Refueling Overhaul in Portsmouth, New Hampshire prior to changing homeport to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Onboard LA JOLLA he completed a Western Pacific deployment and was selected for Chief Petty Officer in September 2002. He then transferred to USS OLYMPIA (SSN 717) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and served as the Electrical Division Leading Chief Petty Officer during two Western Pacific deployments. While assigned, he qualified as Diving Officer of the Watch and was selected for Senior Chief Petty Officer. In July 2005, he reported onboard USS CHICAGO (SSN 721) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as the Engineering Department Master Chief. While assigned, the ship completed two Western Pacific deployments and received the Engineering Excellence Red “E” award.

Master Chief James reported to Commander, Submarine Squadron Seven in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in January 2008 as the Engineering Department Master Chief and Electrical Assistant. While assigned, he qualified as Chief of the Boat and was selected for Master Chief Petty Officer. In January 2010, he transferred to Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit, Ballston Spa, New York. He completed qualifications as Engineering Officer of the Watch and relieved as the Plant Master Chief at the MARF Prototype. After selection by the Director of Naval Reactors, he attended the Senior Enlisted Academy and CMC/COB Course and relieved in March 2012 as the Command Master Chief, Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit, Ballston Spa, New York. Master Chief James reported in May 2014 as the Command Master Chief and Engineering Department Master Chief, Commander, Submarine Group EIGHT and Commander, Task Force SIX NINE, in Naples, Italy. In March 2016, he was selected into the Command Master Chief program, and reported onboard USS ROSS (DDG 71) in December 2016. He temporarily served as the Executive Assistant for the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy for the transition between MCPONs 14 and 15, and reported to OPNAV as the Command Master Chief in October 2018.

Master Chief James is authorized to wear the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), and various other unit and campaign awards. He received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Excelsior College, is an honor graduate from the Senior Enlisted Academy, a graduate of the CMC/COB Course and the Executive Leadership Symposium, and was the recipient of the 2017 MCPON Delbert Black Leadership Award.

Command Master Chief (Surface Warfare / Expeditionary Warfare / Aviation Warfare / Information Warfare) Lucas W. Jenkins, U.S. Navy

Command Master Chief Jenkins is a native of St. Louis, MO. He entered active naval service in March 1999 and reported to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon completion of recruit training he attended Gunner’s Mate “A” School followed by MK45 5”/54 Caliber Gunner’s Mate “C” School in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Master Chief Jenkins’ sea tours include MK45 5”/54 Caliber Gun Mount Maintenance Technician in USS SPRUANCE (DD 963), MK75 76mm Gun Mount Maintenance Technician and CG Division Leading Chief Petty Officer in USS ELROD (FFG 55), and Range Division Leading Chief Petty Officer at Naval Special Warfare Development Group in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

He has completed successful sea tours as Command Master Chief in USS CORONADO (LCS 4) and USS PAUL HAMILTON (DDG 60).

Ashore, Master Chief Jenkins has served as a Water Survival Instructor at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois.

In March 2019, he assumed duties as Command Master Chief at Naval Beach Group ONE in San Diego, California.

Master Chief Jenkins holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and is a graduate of the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 169 and the Command Master Chief Course.

As of: 3 May 2019 Sergeant Major Jason K. Jones is a native of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1994. Following recruit training he attended Infantry Training Battalion at Camp Pendleton, California, where he was assigned the MOS 0311.

In September 1994, First Class Jones reported to Marine Barracks Keflavik, Iceland for duty as a security guard.

In September 1995 Jones reported to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He participated in several deployments as a fire team leader, squad leader and platoon sergeant to the Mediterranean, Okinawa, Korea and Haiti.

In July of 1999 Sergeant Jones reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Sergeant Jones was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion.

Staff Sergeant Jones reported to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, in 2002. In March 2003, he served in combat operations for Operation Iraqi Freedom I. In July 2004, Staff Sergeant Jones was redeployed to OIF II. In December 2004, he was combat meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

Gunnery Sergeant Jones reported to Officer Candidate School, Pensacola, Florida in 2005. In 2007 Gunnery Sergeant Jones oversaw the command’s transition from Pensacola to Newport, Rhode Island while serving as the Chief Drill Instructor and the last class Drill Instructor in Pensacola.

In August 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Jones was promoted to First Sergeant and subsequently reported to Marine Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

In August 2011, First Sergeant Jones reported to 10th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. First Sergeant Jones served with 5th Battalion, 10th Marines; 3rd Battalion, 10th Marines; and Security Cooperation Task Force 12.

In June 2013, Sergeant Major Jones was promoted to his current rank. Sergeant Major Jones served as the Inspector-Instructor 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines and the Battalion Sergeant Major 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

In January 2017, Sergeant Major Jones was assigned to his current position as the Sergeant Major of 8th Marine Regiment. In January 2018, Sergeant Major Jones deployed as the Task Force Southwest Sergeant Major in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel executing NATO’s Resolute Support Mission.

Sergeant Major Jones’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. Mr. Tomas “Kash” Kaselionis is the Department of Homeland Security-Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region 9 (Oakland, CA) Regional Training Manager. In that capacity, he oversees the ~$250M internal and external training and employee development programs in the four states and three territories covering over 500,000 responders, emergency managers, and senior officials. Mr. Kaselionis also holds an Operations Cadre position for his collateral-duty disaster role. He is the current Chair of the San Francisco Federal Executive Board- Training and Employee Development Council and one of two regional representatives on the FEMA Training Council. Mr. Kaselionis has worked for FEMA since October of 2008 while also serving in the US Coast Guard Reserves since January of 2001 and held political office (2011-2015) as an elected Fire Board Director. That combined experience culminates in the deployment to over 50 incidents in field leadership positions and is considered a disaster response operation and CBRE subject matter expert.

In the last two years, Mr. Kaselionis has spent 14 months deployed to nine incidents as a leader for federal operations in multiple capacities. Highlighted during that time, he helped lead the response and recovery priorities during the 2017 Oroville Dam failure and California flooding; led local coordination and recovery operation efforts on the ~$1.5B fire debris clearance mission following the 2017 North Bay (CA) Fires; and recently returned from the Western Pacific where he led local, territorial, federal and military field response elements on the island of Tinian and later on Saipan after the historic landfall of Super Typhoon Yutu (2018).

CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT LAVOR A. KIRKPATRICK

Chief Master Sergeant Lavor A. Kirkpatrick is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, , Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas. Chief Kirkpatrick leads the wing’s enlisted force and is the personal advisor to the wing commander on all issues concerning training, readiness, effective utilization and career progression of Airmen. He maintains liaison with and provides recommendations to the wing’s group and squadron commanders, joint service commanders, key staff members, and senior enlisted in leading nearly 4,100 personnel. The wing is responsible for training more than 14,400 firefighting and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance warriors annually for the United States Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and other government agencies, and allied nations – with geographically separated units in Arizona, Florida and California

Previously, he served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Secretary of the Air Force Legislative Liaison Directorate at Headquarters Air Force. Chief Kirkpatrick was Deputy Chief of the Force Structure Branch in Legislative Liaison and served as special legislative advisor to the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force.

Chief Kirkpatrick is a career geospatial intelligence analyst with experience in support of Operations Allied Force, Northern Watch, Southern Watch, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, New Dawn, and Odyssey Dawn. He is a graduate of the Legislative Fellowship and worked as a personal staffer for United States Senator Mark Begich of Alaska during the 113th Congress.

CMDCM Lee was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan raised in Long Beach, California where he graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1994.

He began his naval career in December 1997 at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, followed by Basic Enlisted Submarine School and Machinist Mate “A” and “C” school in Groton, Connecticut. He graduated from the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy and Command Master Chief / Chief of the Boat Leadership Course in February 2014.

Master Chief Lee’s sea duty assignments include USS LOS ANGELES (SSN 688), USS NEVADA (SSBN 733) (BLUE), USS HENRY M. JACKSON (SSBN 730) (GOLD), USS PENNSYLVANIA (SSBN 735) (BLUE) and USS OHIO (SSGN 726) (GOLD).

His shore duty assignments include Navy Recruiting District Michigan as a Recruiter and Recruiter-In-Charge, and Submarine Squadron 19 as the Damage Control Assistant, Bangor, WA.

His command tours include the USS PENNSYLVANIA (SSBN 735) (BLUE) in March 2014 and served as the Chief of the Boat until May 2016. During his time as COB, the ship earned the Olympic Bowl Trophy for top SSBN in the Pacific Fleet for 2014. Master Chief Lee was hand selected in 2016 to relieve as the Chief of the Boat of the USS OHIO (SSGN 726) (GOLD) were he completed a Western Pacific Deployment and two highly successful missions earning them the Battle Efficiency award for 2017. He currently serves as the Command Master Chief for the Fleet Training Team in Pearl Harbor, HI

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), as well as numerous unit and campaign awards.

Command Sergeant Major Andrew Lombardo is the Command Sergeant Major of the 99th Division (Readiness). CSM Lombardo most recently served as Division CSM of the 100th Training Division (Leader Development) at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Previously, he served as CSM of the 333rd Military Police Brigade, 306th Military Police Battalion, the 301st

Regional Support Group and the 1079th Garrison Support Unit.

CSM Lombardo enlisted in the United States Army in 1985. He attended One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort McClellan, Alabama where he graduated from the US Army Military Police School. He completed a two year Active Duty commitment with the United States Military Academy Military Police Company at West Point, New York. After being released from Active Duty, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in Long Island, New York, where he served in every non-commissioned officer leadership position in various units within the 77th RRC. He was selected as Honor Graduate from PLDC, BNCOC, and the First Sergeants course. He is a 2006 graduate of the United States Sergeants Major Academy. In 2015, CSM Lombardo graduated from both the Army Force Management School and the National Defense University Reserve Component National Security Course. He is a 2016 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Business Army Leader Strategic Broadening Program, and, most recently, was selected as Honor Graduate from the United States Army War College Nominative Leader Course 17-03.

During CSM Lombardo's 33 years of distinguished military service, he has served in six overseas deployments including Operation Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Joint Guard Bosnia, Operation Joint Guardian Kosovo, twice in service in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan).

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (awarded twice), the Meritorious Service Medal (awarded twice), the Army Commendation Medal (7th award), the Army Achievement Medal (5th award), the Navy Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (with two Campaign Stars), Air Assault Badge, the German Armed Forces Badge for Weapons Proficiency in Gold (Schützenschnur Gold), and the Meritorious Unit Citation (awarded twice).

In his civilian career, he is currently a Police Deputy Inspector with the New York City Police Department, serving as Executive Officer in an investigative bureau, working directly under a Deputy Chief. His prior assignments in the NYPD include the elite Emergency Service Unit (ESU), the Strategic Response Group (SRG), as well as patrol assignments in commands across Manhattan and Brooklyn.

CSM Lombardo earned a Master of Science Degree in the Administration of Justice from the University of Louisville. He is a 2007 Honor Graduate of the prestigious Southern Police Institute and a 2016 graduate of the Naval Post-Graduate Institute Executive Leaders Course. CSM Lombardo is a New York State licensed Emergency Medical Technician and a Nationally Certified Emergency Medical Technician.

CSM Lombardo is a native New Yorker. When not working, he enjoys running marathons, hiking, diving, motorcycling, traveling and spending time with his wife Elizabeth. Chief Master Sergeant Michael R. Morgan is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, 42nd Air Base Wing, -Gunter Annex, Alabama. He is responsible to the 42nd Air Base Wing Commander for expeditionary readiness, professional development, effective utilization and mission effectiveness of the base’s enlisted Airmen. He directs all base enlisted recognition and professional development programs and advises the commander on all matters affecting the health, morale, welfare, discipline and fitness of enlisted personnel. He provides guidance and expertise in enlisted force leadership to two group and seven squadron commanders as well as ten staff agency chiefs. He is responsible for the quality of life for more than 4,685 assigned military and civilian personnel on Maxwell AFB- Gunter Annex.

Chief Morgan entered the Air Force in October 1994. His background includes service in two AFSCs: Electrical Systems and Logistics Plans, and special duty assignments. He has served at the squadron, Major Command staff and Combatant Command staff levels both inside and outside the continental United States. Master Chief Newsom is a native of Alabama and 1991 graduate of Carthage High School in Carthage, Mississippi. He entered the United States Navy in December 1991 and completed basic training at Recruit Training Center Orlando, Florida. Following recruit training; he reported to Mess Management “A” school in San Diego, CA.

His sea duty assignments include USS LASALLE (AGF 3) in Manama, Bahrain, USS PONCE (LPD 15) where he completed two deployments to the Mediterranean and advanced to First Class Petty Officer, USS LABOON (DDG 58), USS BARRY (DDG 52) as the Supply Department LCPO and he qualified as Helicopter Control Officer, VBSS assistant Boarding Officer and deployed in support of JTF Lebanon, and USS MESA VERDE (LPD 19) where he deployed twice to 5th and 6th Fleet, completing an historic 321–day deployment. His first Command Master Chief tour was with the “Shadows” of Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron FOUR at in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Master Chief’s shore assignments included Sigonella, , Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi, Naval Support Activity Manama, Bahrain as the Housing Department LCPO, Surface Combat System Center Wallops Island, Virginia as the Food Service Officer and Supply Department LCPO, Navy Recruiting District Phoenix where he was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer, recognized as Medical Officer Recruiter of the Year, and selected into the Command Master Chief program.

He assumed duties as Command Master Chief of Strategic Communications Wing ONE in February 2019.

Master Chief Newsom is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 171) and the CMC/COB Course (Class 138). He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resource Management from Liberty University and is currently pursuing his Masters of Education Degree.

Command Sergeant Major Robert B. Nieto was born in Shiner Texas and raised in Moulton, Texas. In 1983 he joined the Texas National Guard and attended Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1984.

CSM Nieto has served in various assignments including the 386th Engineer Company,176th Engineer Company, 111th Engineer Company, 1st-112 CAV , HHB DIVARTY JFT 4 SWBS, 272nd Engineer Company, 551st MRBC Company, HHC 72nd/JASG-C, Command Sergeant Major for the 1st Squadron 112 CAV, Command Sergeant Major for the 3rd BN 141st INF, Command Sergeant Major for the 156th BEB, Command Sergeant Major for the 176th Engineer Brigade, and currently serving as the Command Sergeant Major for the 72nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team. CSM Nieto has served in every leadership position from team leader to Command Sergeant Major. CSM Nieto has participated in three mobilizations and operational deployments to Afghanistan as an Advisor for the Afghanistan 205th Corps CSM 2017, Iraq 09-10, Multinational Force & Observer Sinai Egypt 06 and 03-05 CONUS.

WARRANT OFFICER JANET O’DEA, CSM

Air Force Headquarters Warrant Officer Senior Enlisted Advisor to Chief of Staff – Air Force Headquarters

Warrant Officer O’Dea (nee Cavell) enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force in 1995 as an Imagery Analyst (now Air Intelligence Analyst – Geospatial-Intelligence). Upon completion of initial employment training at the School of Military Intelligence, Warrant Officer O’Dea saw a number of postings within single-service and joint units as a junior airmen, including Australian Theatre Joint Intelligence Centre.

As a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Warrant Officer O’Dea was selected to participate in Exercise LONG LOOK in 2003 where she deployed with the RAF to Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait in support of Operation TELIC (UK military contribution in Iraq). This experience was further enhanced in 2004 in support of AP-3C operations in the Middle East. 2005 saw Warrant Officer O’Dea posted to HQAC as part of the team to establish the Air Force’s combat targeting capability. This team, Targeting Flight, relocated to Edinburgh in 2006 with the reformation of No 87 Squadron where she was promoted to .

On promotion to Warrant Officer in 2008, Warrant Officer O’Dea returned to Canberra to the Target Analysis Section as part of the now Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation. In the following two years, Warrant Officer O’Dea saw two tours as Liaison Officer with Special Operations Task Group in Afghanistan that highlighted the importance of operating in a multinational, joint and inter-agency environment. In 2010 the targeting capability transferred to Air Force under the reformation of No 460 Squadron as the ‘Air Force’s target intelligence squadron’ and was appointed as the inaugural Squadron Warrant Officer. For her performance at 460SQN, Warrant Officer O’Dea was recognised in the 2015 Australia Day Honour’s and awarded a Conspicuous Service Medal for meritorious devotion to duty as Squadron Warrant Officer.

In 2014 Warrant Officer O’Dea posted to Glenbrook in the A2 (Air Intelligence) Directorate, where in late 2015 she proceeded to Directorate of Personnel – Air Force as a Career Manager. This broadening experience saw her involved in the establishment of Warrant Officer Talent Management (Career Management Board – WOFF) and assisted in the implementation of the WOFF Employment Continuum.

Warrant Officer O’Dea has undertaken a number of representational roles, including Trustee on the RAAF Welfare Trust Fund from 2011 to 2013 and assisted in coordinating Canberra-based Women’s Integrated Network Group (WINGS) sessions (2017 - 2018). Recently, Warrant Officer O’Dea was appointed as Assistant to the Service Women’s Advisor – Air Force (Specialist Clothing Working Group – Non Combat).

Warrant Officer O’Dea is a graduate from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Arts (International Relations) and a Graduate Certificate – Strategic Studies and is currently studying a Masters in Strategic People Management at UNSW. She is married to Simon, an Army Officer, and have two primary school-aged sons.

In January 2019, Warrant Officer O’Dea commenced her appointment as the Air Force Headquarters Warrant Officer.

Sergeant Major Pearson reported to MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina in December 1991 for recruit training and upon graduation, was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. Upon completion of training at School of Infantry-East (SOI-E) he was assigned as an Infantryman 0311 to Company L, 3d, Battalion, 2nd Marines in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In December 1992, he deployed in support of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP) and served in Operation Team Spirit. In June 1994 he deployed with BLT 3/2, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Restore Hope and Provide Promise. In July 1995 he deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of JTF-160 for Operation Sea Signal.

In February 1996, he reported to 1st Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team Company in Norfolk, Virginia. He was assigned as a squad leader for the close-quarter battle and designated marksmen sections.

In August 1998, he reported to Company F, 2nd Battalion 3d Marines, 3d Marine Division in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii to serve as a Platoon Sergeant. In November 2000 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and assigned as the machinegun section leader for with Weapons Platoon. He deployed during two UDP’s, participating in Korea and Thailand for KITP and Cobra Gold 1999. He attended Small Arms Weapons Instructor Course and Martial Arts Instructor Trainer School.

In October 2001, he reported to Drill Instructor School in MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina. He reported to Company M, 3d Battalion. He served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor.

In October 2003, he reported to Company K, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, in Twenty-nine Palms, California, as Weapons Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant. In December 2003 he deployed on UDP and subsequently, Operation Iraqi Freedom II, for combat operations in Haditha. In April 2004 he supported combat operations in Fallujah for Operation Vigilant Response. In January 2005 he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq for combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III and security operations for the first Iraqi elections. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in November 2005.

In January 2006, he reported to Drill Instructor School in MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon Completion of school he reported to Company M, 3d Battalion. During his tour he served as a Senior Drill Instructor, Series GySgt, Instructor at Drill Instructor School and Regimental Drillmaster. He was selected to the rank of First Sergeant in November 2008. In March 2009, he reported to 3d Battalion, 10th Marines and served as a First Sergeant for Battery K, Battery I, and Headquarters Battery. He deployed in November 2009 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and combat operations in the Helmand Province.

In October 2011, he reported to Infantry Training Battalion, SOI-E and served as the First Sergeant for Company E. In April 2014, he was reassigned as the First Sergeant for Marine Combat Instructor School, SOI-E. He was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major in November 2015.

In April 2016, Sergeant Major Pearson reported to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa Japan for duty as the Squadron Sergeant Major and participated in Exercise Cobra Gold in February 2017.

In January 2018, Sergeant Major Pearson assumed the post of Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. Sergeant Major Pearson deployed as the Air Combat Element Sergeant Major for patrols 18.2 and 19.1 in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Sergeant Major Pearson's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device (gold star in lieu of fifth award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of second award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Master Chief Jahmal A. Pereira Command Master Chief 9th Coast Guard District

Master Chief Pereira assumed duties as Command Master Chief, for the Ninth Coast Guard District on June 05, 2018. His primary responsibility is to advise the Ninth Coast Guard District Commander on issues and initiatives pertaining to all Coast Guard members and their families. The Ninth District encompasses eight states, 1,500 miles of international border, and a workforce of more than 6,000 Coast Guard active duty, Reserve, civilian and auxiliary men and women.

Master Chief Pereira’s previous assignments include several Marine Corps, Army, and Coast Guard installations; to include Paris Island, SC, Camp Foster Okinawa, Japan, and Camp Pendleton, CA. Army Installations to include Ft. Benning GA, Ft. Lee VA, and Ft. Bliss, TX. He has also served three tours in Kodiak, AK, two tours in Mobile, AL, an instructor for the Chief Petty Officers Academy in Petaluma, CA. and finally as the Command Master Chief at the Coast Guard Leadership Development Center and Senior Enlisted Leadership Course School Chief, before assuming the duties of Ninth Coast Guard District Command Master Chief.

In 2006 WO Pierce was promoted to Warrant Officer and took up his duties as the Marine Engineering School Warrant Officer which allowed him to undertake marine engineering training in both Australia and Germany. Later, in 2008, WO Pierce was appointed the Inspector of Electrical Systems at the Fleet Engineering Centre where he remained until he was appointed the Command Warrant Officer of HMNZS PHILOMEL in late 2012. The middle of 2015 saw WO Pierce posted to the newly established Technical Seaworthiness authority as the Deputy of Platform Systems. This posting saw him deployed to both Singapore and the United Kingdom in an assessment and training role. In August 2016 WO Pierce was posted to the Initial Training Squadron as the Leander Divisional Officer. In 2018 WO Pierce was posted to the Seamanship Combat Specialist School as the Seamanship Combat Specialist Head of School. WO Pierce is a graduate of Joint Warrant Officer Advanced Course 5. During this course WO Pierce also became a fellow of the Asia-Pacific Centre for Security Studies. WO Pierce is married with two children and in his spare time enjoys reading, particularly military non-fiction books and also enjoys participating in the shooting sports. Warrant Officer Marine Technician (Electrical) Kramer Pierce was born in Tauranga, New Zealand and enlisted into the Royal New Zealand Navy in 1990 as a Weapons Electrical Mechanic.

On completion of his Basic Branch Training he posted to HMNZS WAIKATO for duties on both electrical and weapon sections. From there he was posted to HMNZS WELLINGTON and later returned to HMNZS WAIKATO for her deployment to Hawaii for the 50 year anniversary of Victory over Japan Day celebrations in 1995. WO Pierce deployed to Australia in 1996 for 18 months as part of the commissioning ships company for HMNZS TE KAHA. Chief Master Sergeant Vicki L. Robertson is the

Command Chief Master Sergeant of the , , Georgia. In this capacity, she serves as principal advisor to the wing commander of the 2,200 Reserve member, C-130 airlift organization, on all matters relating to readiness, training, professional development, force utilization, operations tempo, health, morale, welfare and leadership of the enlisted members of the wing. She ensures personnel compliance with Air Force policies optimizing a mission-deployable force. She performs as the functional manager to the first sergeants within the wing and serves as the commander’s representative on councils, boards and selected events within the military and civilian communities.

Chief Robertson first joined the U.S. Air Force in April 1990. After completing Technical Training at , Mississippi in August 1990, she was stationed at Zweibrucken Air Force Base, Germany as an Aerospace Control Operator assigned to the 601st Tactical Control Squadron. In November 1992, Chief Robertson transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve as a personnelist with the 1st Battalion in Guymon, Oklahoma. She later returned to the Air Force as a traditional Reservist in January 1995, serving as personnel specialist with the 302nd Mission Support Squadron at Peterson AFB, Colorado. Since joining the Air Force Reserves, Chief Robertson’s diverse background includes assignments as an administrative specialist, paralegal specialist, Law Office Superintendent, services craftsman and as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee with HQ, Pacific Air Forces.

SERGEANT MAJOR CARLOS A. RUIZ

Sergeant Major Ruiz enlisted in the Marine Corps February 1993 in Phoenix, Az. On 2 November 1993, he reported to recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA. He graduated in January 1994 and reported to Marine Combat Training, Golf Company.

In May 1994, Sergeant Major Ruiz reported to Supply Company, 3d Supply Battalion, 3d Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan. In May 1996 he received orders to Marine Corps Logistics Base, Barstow, California to serve as a contracting and purchasing NCO.

In October 1998, he received orders to Recruiting School, MCRD San Diego, CA. Upon graduation he was assigned to 12th Marine Corps District, Recruiting Station Los Angeles. In October 2001, Sergeant Major Ruiz received orders to Supply Company, 1st Supply Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group. In January 2003, he deployed with Equipment Reception Platoon and later with Combat Service Support Group-12 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In April 2004, Sergeant Major Ruiz requested orders to Drill Instructor School class 4-04. He graduated in September 2004 as the recipient of the Leadership Award and the class Honor Graduate. Sergeant Major Ruiz was assigned to Company L, Third Recruit Training Battalion. In October 2006, Sergeant Major Ruiz was transferred to the Instructor Staff, Drill Instructor School, MCRD San Diego, California as a Drill Instructor School Instructor. During this period he held the billets of Drill Master, Physical Training Instructor, and later the School’s Chief Instructor.

In April 2008, he reported to Supply Company, Combat Service Support Group-15. He served as Company Gunnery Sergeant until February 2009.

In February 2009, Sergeant Major Ruiz reported to Company L, 3d Battalion, 4th Marines to serve as the Company First Sergeant. He subsequently deployed to Afghanistan in support of OEF. Following the end of his first tour, Sergeant Major Ruiz was re-assigned to Headquarters and Service Company and completed a second tour to Afghanistan.

In June 2012, Sergeant Major Ruiz received orders to Inspector Instructor Staff, Sacramento, California to serve as Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant. In September 2013 upon his selection to Sergeant Major, he received orders to 3d Battalion, 5th Marines. He served as the Battalion Landing Team Sergeant Major, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and as the Battalion Sergeant Major for Unit Deployment Program 16.1.

In May 2016, Sergeant Major Ruiz received orders to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion and was in December 2016 re-assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group.

Sergeant Major Ruiz assumed his current duties as the 4th Marine Logistics Group Senior Enlisted Leader on 7 December 2018.

Command Sergeant Major John F. Sampa 12th Command Sergeant Major Army National Guard

Command Sergeant Major John F. Sampa was appointed as the Command Sergeant Major of the Army National Guard on 15 February 2018.

He joined the United States Army on 30 April 1987 and has served in the Army National Guard and the United States Army for more than 30 years. He completed basic training as a Tank Armored Crewman at Fort Knox Army Post in Fort Knox, Kentucky. CSM Sampa was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major on 8 April 2009. Prior to becoming the Command Sergeant Major of the Army National Guard, CSM Sampa served as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Texas Military Department from March 2017 to February 2018. CSM Sampa was previously the Command Sergeant Major for the 36th Infantry Division for more than three years, from December 2013 to March 2017. CSM Sampa has been mobilized for combat duty three times and deployed overseas for combat operations in Bosnia and twice to Iraq.

CSM Sampa’s military and civilian education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy. CSM Sampa is also a graduate of the Texas Highway Patrol Academy.

Chief Master Sergeant Brent S. Sheehan is the Command Chief for the 5th Bomb Wing, Minot AFB, North Dakota. He serves as the principle advisor to the wing commander on all matters and concerns for 12,195 active duty Airmen, dependents, and civilian personnel. Additionally, he is the primary Enlisted Advisor on matters of force utilization, professional development, readiness, morale, welfare, and quality of life. He ensures the wing’s Airmen expertly prepare aviation forces for combat and are ready to deploy at a moment’s notice in support of global operations. In addition, he communicates the wing’s mission, vision, priorities, and commander’s intent to all levels of senior leadership at America’s only installation that houses two pillars of the nuclear triad.

Chief Sheehan grew up in Tacoma, Washington and entered the Air Force in February 1992. He graduated from the Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) course at , Texas in June 1992. Throughout his career, Chief Sheehan has served in multiple capacities within the Civil Engineer functional community from technician to Squadron Chief Enlisted Manager. Chief Master Sergeant John G. Storms is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, (Air Forces Southern), Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona. He is responsible for all matters regarding the health, welfare, morale, and effective utilization of over 14,000 enlisted personnel. In this role he is the primary communications link between the Commander and the enlisted force. Twelfth Air Force ensures the readiness of six active duty wings and one direct reporting unit for contingency operations, and oversees 21 gained units from the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard, totaling more than 630 aircraft with more than 42,000 Airmen. As the air and space component to U.S. Southern Command, Air Forces Southern conducts security cooperation and provides air, space, and cyberspace capabilities throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

Chief Storms joined the Air Force in June 1992 and graduated Security Specialist Technical Training at Lackland AFB, Texas. He has held numerous positions at squadron, group, wing and MAJCOM levels. CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT MIKAEL “MACK” SUNDIN

Chief Master Sergeant Mikael “Mack” Sundin is the Command Chief for the , Buckley Air Force Base, Aurora, Colorado. As the Command Chief, he advises the wing commander on matters impacting the enlisted force such as proper utilization of personnel, quality of enlisted leadership, management/supervisor training, operations tempo and quality of life. Further, Chief Sundin is responsible for monitoring compliance with Air National Guard and Air Force standards including those standards governing conduct, performance, appearance, and professional military education. He serves on advisory councils and works to insure a close relationship with the local community. Chief Sundin maintains as liaison between the wing commander and enlisted force and staff members, and communicates with the wing commander on issues, concerns, and morale of the enlisted force. Also, Chief Sundin serves as the functional manager for assigned 140th Wing First Sergeants and performs other duties as outlined and directed by the 140th Wing Commander.

Chief Sundin entered the Air National Guard (ANG) in 1996 enlisting with the Minnesota Air National Guard as an Aircraft Structural Maintenance Apprentice. In this role, he worked on the F-16 airframe in support the 148th Fighter Wing operations. In August of 2002 Chief Sundin was assigned to 140th Maintenance Squadron, Colorado Air National Guard (COANG), Buckley Air Force Base, Colo. His extensive background in the COANG includes positions as: Corrosion Control NCOIC; Aircraft Fuel Systems NCOIC; Maintenance Production Superintendent, Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) 2012-2013 and Fabrication Element Supervisor. In 2015 Chief Sundin was assigned to the Air National Guard Office of the Command Chief, JB Andrews, Md. Serving in the role of Manager, Senior Enlisted Leader Management Office (SELMO), he was responsible for the development, interpretation and implementation of ANG SELMO policies and processes; to include coordinating senior leader development opportunities and training for all ANG State/Wing CCMs and 1900 ANG CMSgts. Chief Sundin was also directly responsible to plan, organize, staff, direct, report, and budget for personnel actions pertaining to functional management oversight of 9E and 9G AFSCs. He also communicated daily with the ANGRC Staff, National Guard Bureau General Officer Management Office, Air Force “Chief’s Group” and key DoD senior leader offices regarding ANG Senior Enlisted Leader issues and concerns. Chief Sundin has also participated in Operations NOBLE EAGLE, ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, THREAT SECURITY PACKAGE/PACAF, and State Active Duty missions. Prior to his current position, Chief Sundin was assigned as the Air Enlisted Legislative Liaison, National Guard Bureau, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

Sergeant Major Wilson enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 1994 and conducted Recruit Training at MCRD San Diego. Upon completion, he reported to the School of Infantry where he earned the MOS 0311 and was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class. Upon graduation, he reported to Company K, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines where he served as an Automatic Rifleman, Team Leader and Squad Leader. During his tour, he deployed twice to Okinawa, Japan and was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal, Corporal, and Sergeant.

In March of 1998, Sergeant Wilson reported to Drill Instructor School, MCRD San Diego and graduated first in his class. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Hotel Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor/Senior Drill Instructor as well as a Water Survival Instructor. During this tour he was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant. Upon completion of his tour, he attended the SNCO Career Course and graduated first in his class.

Staff Sergeant Wilson reported to Lima Company, 3d Battalion, 1st Marines in August of 2001 where he served as Platoon Commander and Platoon Sergeant for 3rd Platoon and deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom as part of the 11th MEU. Upon return, he was immediately re-deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) I. He returned to CONUS in May 2003 and was assigned as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Lima Company. Shortly after, he was selected for the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and attended the SNCO Advanced Course where he once again graduated first in his class.

In June 2004 he deployed to Iraq a second time. During this deployment, he participated in the battle of Fallujah as part of Operation AL FAJR/PHANTOM FURY. Throughout this period, he served as Company Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant.

In April 2005 Gunnery Sergeant Wilson was transferred to the SNCO Academy, where he served as a Faculty Advisor/Instructor for the Career Course as well as Chief Instructor for the Advanced Course. During his assignment, he earned his Master Instructor Certification and was selected as the 2006 Instructor of the Year.

In December 2006, he was selected for the rank of First Sergeant and received orders to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines as the Weapons Company First Sergeant. In June 2007 he deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. In May 2009, he deployed to the Helmand Province of Afghanistan where he was assigned as the Charlie Company First Sergeant. During this tour, he participated in combat operations in the Nawa District as a part of Operation KHANJARI.

In May 2010, First Sergeant Wilson was assigned to Inspector-Instructor duty in San Jose, California. In September 2011 he attended the Senior Enlisted PME Course in Quantico, Virginia where he earned the Excellence in Speech & Writing Award. In May 2012, he was promoted to Sergeant Major and assigned as the Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 311 in Yuma, Arizona. He again deployed to Afghanistan from April to September 2013. In 2014, VMA-311 was recognized by the Marine Corps Aviation Association as the Marine Attack Squadron of the Year.

In March 2015, Sergeant Major Wilson was assigned as the Sergeant Major of Marine Wing Support Squadron 371 and deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

In November 2015, Sergeant Major Wilson was assigned as the I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group Sergeant Major. The unit was re-designated as I Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group in July 2017.

In February 2018, Sergeant Major Wilson was assigned as the Sergeant Major of U.S. Marine Corps Training Command.

Sergeant Major Wilson’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device Meritorious Service Medal (third award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (fourth award) with Valor Device, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (second award) with Valor Device, and the Combat Action Ribbon (second award).

73rd Troop CMD Command Sergeant Major CSM William A. Workley

CSM Workley is a native of Cortland, Ohio and enlisted into the United States Army in 1984. He graduated Basic Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Virginia as a Food Service Specialist. He later re- classified as a Human Resources Specialist.

During his career, CSM Workley served in a variety of leadership positions and assignments. His many assignments include service with the 3rd BN, 75th Ranger regiment as a Food Service Specialist, the 684th Medical Company a Food Operations Sergeant, the 237th Personnel Services Battalion as First Sergeant and Command Sergeant Major, the STB/ 37th IBCT as Command Sergeant Major, the 37th IBCT as Operations SGM, and the 73rd Troop Command as Brigade Command Sergeant Major and Senior Enlisted Advisor for the FEMA Region V Homeland Response Force.

CSM Workley’s deployments include Operation Iraqi Freedom in Kuwait and Operation Enduring Freedom in RC North, Afghanistan.

CSM Workley is a graduate of several educational courses to include the United States Sergeants Major Academy, NRC Class 1-09; He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership (Summa Cum Laude) from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio and has earned a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
