PRESIDENT’S SECRETARIAT (PUBLIC) PRESS WING **** ISLAMABAD, Mar 25 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain on Sunday congratulated the Armed Forces for successfully arranging the marvelous Pakistan Day parade which reflected their exemplary discipline, defense capabilities and professional preparedness. He was addressing the prize distribution ceremony and Bara Khana, hosted for the officers and personnel of Pakistan Armed Forces who participated in the Pakistan Day parade. The President said the nation felt pride over its Armed Forces. The passionate display of performance by the officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces on the Pakistan Day strengthened the spirit in nation and revived the confidence that the Armed Forces of Pakistan were fully capable of defending the country with their professional capabilities. He noted that participation of Turkey, Jordan and United Arab Emirates contingents in Pakistan Day parade had enhanced the moments of joys.“It proved that our friends are standing with us in all circumstances,” he added. The President observed that holding of joint parade also added to country’s esteem and image abroad. He stressed upon display of such faith, unity and discipline in all sectors of life so that the country could progress and the highest targets for the progress and prosperity could be achieved with the strong unity of all segments of society. The President also lauded the bold role of Armed Forces and others for defeating terrorism. “The sacrifices you rendered for restoration of peace and the protection of people would be written in golden words,” he added. The President said the Armed Forces of Pakistan, from the creation of the motherland, had despite scant resources and numbers, and always defeated its enemies. All this was possible due to sincerity and highest degree of patriotism. He noted that with display of such discipline and sacrifices, a strong and democratic Pakistan would overcome all its issues and would become indomitable. .

When Pakistan fell in the clutches of mean men, profligates and pederasts, with the hanging of Bhutto, idiocy in the politics of Pakistan reigned supreme. Falsehood became the qualification and criterion for preferment, public life and governance. In this atmosphere of inordinate falsehood, the thinking and the good stood stupefied by manners of men and, the bewilderment of events. If there were no fools, cowards and crooks in Pakistan there would be no dictators.

ABSTRACT The ranging course of terrorism banishing peace and security prospects of today’s Pakistan is seen as a domestic effluent of its own flawed policies, bad governance, and lack of social justice and rule of law in society and widening gulf of trust between the rulers and the ruled. The study focused on policies and performance of the Musharraf government since assuming the mantle of front ranking ally of the United States in its so called ‘war on terror’. The causes of reversal of pre nine-eleven position on Afghanistan and support of its Taliban’s rulers are examined in the light of the geo-strategic compulsions of that crucial time and the structural weakness of military rule that needed external props for legitimacy. The flaws of the response to the terrorist challenges are traced to its total dependence on the hard option to the total neglect of the human factor from which the thesis develops its argument for a holistic approach to security in which the people occupy a central position.

Dr Mahathir guest-of-honour for Pakistan Day parade BERNAMA 23/03/2019 From Kamarul Ariffin Md Yassin ISLAMABAD, March 23 (Bernama) -- Pakistan on Saturday celebrated Pakistan Day, with the main feature of the day being a military parade where Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the guest-of-honour. Pakistan Day commemorates the 'Lahore Resolution' of March 23, 1940, also known as the 'Pakistan Resolution' that eventually led to the creation of Pakistan. Upon arrival at the Shakar Parian parade ground here, Dr Mahathir was received by Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan at the saluting dais. The event started with the arrival of Pakistan’s President Dr Arif Alvi. The day dawned with a 31-gun salute in the capital city while provincial capitals welcomed it with 21-gun salutes. Special prayers were offered in mosques after the Fajr (dawn) prayers for the progress, prosperity and solidarity of the country and the national flag was hoisted at all major government buildings. For the grand military parade here, contingents of the three wings of the armed forces and the security forces took part in the march past. Aircraft belonging to Army Aviation and the Pakistani Air Force were to demonstrate aerobatic feats for the spectators. Commandos of the Pakistani Army, Navy and Frontier Constabulary in their unique style also made up the march past while the Pakistani Air Force (PAF) carried out the fly-past. Dr Mahathir arrived here Thursday for a three-day working visit to Pakistan . Dr Mahathir’s visit is at the invitation of his counterpart Imran to attend the Pakistan Day celebration, which is observed on March 23 every year.

Published by the Defense Science Board (DSB); December 2016. http://www.acq.osd.mil/dsb/reports/2010s/Seven_Defense_Priorities.pdf This report summarizes the main findings and recommendations of reports published by the Defense Science Board for the Secretary of Defense during the last dozen years. The purpose of this effort is to aid the incoming Administration to make a fast start in addressing pressing national security issues and opportunities. In particular, the report features a chapter on nuclear deterrence, noting that "nuclear deterrence remains a cornerstone of our national security." Because nuclear weapons have continued to evolve under the stewardship of other nuclear-weapon states, the DSB suggests that the United States must continue to develop nuclear and non-nuclear options to deter the possibility of an attack on U.S. national security interests. To be prepared to respond to future uncertainties, the DSB suggests addressing features such as enhanced platform survivability, open architectures for upgrades to address technological advances, lower-yield, primary-only options, and advanced manufacturing to support timely modifications. Non-nuclear forces need to invest in nuclear survivability in particular if deterrence policy relies on non-nuclear deterrent capabilities. Of particular interest, the DSB suggests that general knowledge in the military regarding nuclear weapons and the environments they generate, outside of a small group of specialists within the Air Force, Navy, and Army, does not exist.
