As we’ve mentioned before, PullCast will be present at both of this popular Design Events and soon will tell you where you’ll be able to find us! + see more Salone del Mobile 2019 But in this article, we’ll focus on this year’s theme of both events: The Tribute to Leonardo Da Vinci’s Work and Life. This tribute happens in the same year that signifies the 500th Anniversary of his Death. It’s a daring but important concept that will likely put the 58th edition of the biggest design event in Europe on the map for the ages. The great master painter Leonardo da Vinci is recognized nowadays as one of the biggest artists of all time! For that reason, Salone del Mobile and Milan will pay tribute to his work with two outstanding and hugely evocative installations at Fiera Milano that will utterly provide to you the most memorable and cultural experience. It’s obvious for those who know Milan and Da Vinci’s work that you’ll be able to find this exhibition at historical Conca dell’Incoronata, a former water canal of Milan whose construction was planned by Da Vinci EXHIBITIONS AQUA himself during his work on another one of his great works: The Naviglio Grande! The Conca dell’Incoronata was decommissioned in 1930, but MILANO PROJECT from 1496 to 1929 was considered one of the main sources of natural water of Milan.. He made this city his home for many years and he helped shape the cultural, architectural and artistic vision of this incredible and historical town! He lived 18 Years in the City and, during this time, he painted some of his most recognized and accomplished works of art, namely the iconic painting of “Last Supper” and helped develop the Naviglio Grande that, till this day, remains as the top water canal of the Lombardia Region. + see more CHURCH OF SANTA 1. MARIA DELLE GRAZIE Nex to the iconic “Mona Lisa” painting, that’s currently on exhibition at the Louvre Museum in Paris, the “Last Supper” it’s one of the main paintings of Da Vinci’s legacy. Today you can see this amazing masterpiece in Milan, namely at the iconic Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, TOUR IN MILAN TOUR that’s been the Home of this Masterpiece for decades. AMBROSIANA 2. ART GALLERY Another relic of Leonardo Da Vinci that’s still in exhibition in Milan is the Atlantic Code! For those who don’t know, the Atlantic Code is the corpus of Leonardo’s autograph manuscripts and is so called because of the size of its sheets, used at that time for the geographical atlases. It’s a real journey through time and the ingenious mind of Leonardo da Vinci that’s currently in exhibition at the Ambrosiana Art Gallery. LEONARDO DA VINCI’S MUSEUM 3. OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY If you want to visit a Sanctuary dedicated to Leonardo Da Vinci’s work and life, then we highly recommend you pay a visit to the Leonardo da Vinci’s Museum of Science and Technology. Besides being a true Milanese classic, a trip to this Museum will allow you to discover and 2. 3. admire Leonardo’s drawings and projects, and to try to make scale models work from the projects of his inventions. It’s at this incredible museum that you’ll find a prototype of the iconic Flying Machines designed by Da Vinci! LEONARDO’S 4. VINNEYARD As we’ve told you previously, Da Vinci’s “Last Supper” is in exhibition at Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. But what many people don’t know, is that Da Vinci lived very close to the Church where one of his stunning masterpieces is currently on display. That’s right, Da Vinci lived right in front 4. of the church at the 65 Corso Magenta ate Casa degli Atellani! The home belonged to the Atellans, a family that were courtiers of the historical Milanese citizen Ludovico Sforza, one of the patrons of Da Vinci. In 1948, the Atellani had a vineyard planted for Leonardo, who loved good wine and worldliness and loved this gift very much. That vine still exists and, today, it’s an important historical style. PADERNO 5. D’ADDA If you want to get the Inspiration Vibe of Da Vinci, then you need to step away from the City of Milan and visit the outskirts of the city! You must travel to Paderno d’Adda, a place where the River Adda flows. It’s in this stretch of river you can visit the places where Leonardo studied TOUR IN MILAN TOUR the rapids to find a way to transport the building materials by water despite that stretch was not navigable. Leonardo took inspiration from the landscapes of the Adda River for the backgrounds of his famous paintings “Virgin of the Rocks” or even “Mona Lisa”/ “Gioconda”. DUOMO 6. OF MILANO What about the Duomo? Well, the Duomo is Milan’s most Iconic building and it’s construction spanned for over 400 years! Some parts of the cathedral were designed during Da Vinci’s Salone del Mobile 2019 | Salone del Mobile 2019 lifetime, but surprisingly, Leonardo Da Vinci wasn’t involved in any part of the construction 5. process of this church, and none of his works can be found inside this architectonic wonder. It’s true that Leonardo made some drawings for the domed crossing tower but these never moved to the construction phase because, according to the local legends, Leonardo told his superiors that his plans and options where inferior to the ones provided by other two court architects: Amadeo and Dolcebuono. CITY 7. OF MILAN You won’t be able to see the Tributes that the City of Milan is preparing for Da Vinci to celebrate 6. 7. this Date during Salone del Mobile or the Milan Design Week because most of them will only start to happen in May (The Month that Leonardo Died)! But Milan is preparing a huge celebration and thought all the Summer you’ll be able to visit countless exhibits, expos and masterclasses about the painter! One of the big events of the programme is the return to Milan of the “Madonna Litta”, which the Hermitage Museum in St.Petersburg is loaning to the Poldi Pezzoli Museum for a special exhibition. SFORZA 8. CASTLE We end this Guide with Sforza Castle in central Milan! This is one of the historical sights of 8. Milan and it’s where we find another masterpiece of the master artist. He painted the famous Frescoed Ceiling of the “Sala delle Asse” (‘Room of the Wooden Panels’), combining a naturalist depiction with a strong symbolism! The Sforza Castle houses another important work by Leonardo: The Codex Trivulzianus. It’s a manuscript containing notes and drawings dealing mainly with military and religious architecture.

    Leonardo Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (Anchiano, 15 aprile 1452 – Amboise, 2 maggio 1519) è stato un inventore, artista e scienziato italiano. Uomo d'ingegno e talento universale del Rinascimento, considerato uno dei più grandi geni dell'umanità, incarnò in pieno lo spirito della sua epoca, portandolo alle maggiori forme di espressione nei più disparati campi dell'arte e della conoscenza: fu infatti scienziato, filosofo, architetto, pittore, scultore, disegnatore, trattati sta, scenografo, anatomista, botanico, musicista, ingegnere e progettista. Nella bottega del Verrocchio Diventando ormai sempre più evidente l'interesse del giovane Leonardo nel "disegnare et il fare di rilievo, come cose che gl'andavano a fantasia più d'alcun'altra", ser Piero mandò infine il figlio, dal 1469 o 1470, nella bottega di Andrea del Verrocchio, che in quegli anni era una delle più importanti di Firenze, nonché una vera e propria fucina di nuovi talenti. Tra i suoi allievi figuravano nomi che sarebbero diventati i grandi maestri della successiva generazione, come Sandro Botticelli, Perugino, Domenico Ghirlandaio e Lorenzo di Credi, e la bottega espletava un'attività poliedrica, dalla pittura alle varie tecniche scultoree (su pietra, fusione a cera persa e intaglio ligneo), fino alle arti "minori". Soprattutto veniva stimolata la pratica del disegno, portando tutti i collaboratori a un linguaggio pressoché comune, tanto che ancora oggi può risultare molto difficile l'attribuzione delle opere uscite dalla bottega alla mano del maestro oppure a un determinato allievo. Today, a dozen museums across the UK are simultaneously opening “Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing,” an exhibition of the famed Renaissance artist’s work to mark the 500th anniversary his death, on May 2, 1519. The coordinated British exhibitions—which are part of a larger worldwide celebration of the artist, inventor, architect, and all -around genius—draw from the UK’s Royal Collection Trust, which has sent a dozen drawings from Windsor Castle to each of the 12 participating institutions. Leonardo made “more drawings than any artist of the period” and “more words in manuscripts than anyone from the period in any field,” Martin Clayton, the head of prints and drawings at the Royal Collection Trust, told The Art Newspaper. “You can grasp the whole Leonardo by looking at the drawings.” Leonardo da Vinci, The Head of Leda (circa 1505–08).     A Multidisciplinary Study of the Tongerlo Last Supper and its attribution to Leonardo da Vinci’s Second Milanese studio Jean-Pierre Isbouts, Fielding Graduate University, Santa Barbara, CA, and Christopher Brown, Brown Discoveries, LLC, North Carolina This article presents the findings from a two-year study of the Last Supper canvas in the Abbey of Tongerlo, Belgium, including a detailed review of its provenance as well as a digital analysis and multispectral study conducted by the Belgian company IMEC in the Spring of 2019. The design of the study is a composite multidisciplinary approach, with traditional connoisseurship and literary research being augmented by scientific examination, using new digital processing and multispectral imaging techniques. The article argues that based on the available evidence, the Tongerlo Last Supper was produced in Leonardo’s Milanese workshop between 1507 and 1509, as a collaborative project involving the Leonardeschi Giampietrino, Andrea Solario and Marco d’Oggiono under Leonardo’s supervision. Furthermore, the infrared spectography scans suggest that the face of John in the painting may have been painted by Leonardo himself. The study was funded by IMEC Belgium; Fielding Graduate University of Santa Barbara, CA; Brown Discoveries, LLC of North Carolina, and conducted with the gracious permission of the Premonstratensian Abbey of Tongerlo, Belgium. Tres lustros plenos de ilusiones y de gran satisfacción por saber que hemos alcanzado parte de las metas que aquellos cuatro fundadores Agustín, Paco, Vicente y Loreto habían soñado. Otros caminos diferentes escogieron tres de los precursores. De aquel cuarteto tan solo permanece como puntal inque- brantable Agustín, alma y vida del colectivo durante la mayor parte de estos tres quinquenios; hoy, el incansable ajetreo de otros tiempos, en los que fue permanente e incondicional presidente, lo ha tornado por un merecido -aun- que colaborativo- descanso. Es bueno, y muy sano, hacer una visión retrospectiva ya que nos permi- te recordar a quienes compartieron con nosotros muchos culturales y alegres momentos. Ellos tomaron el camino sin vuelta y en el más allá, seguro, siguen divirtiéndose y componiendo en las más diversas disciplinas: literaria, rapso- da, musical, pintura... Lola Sánchez, Ligia Rueda, Pepita Oliva, Luisa Valle, Pepe Franco, José Ruiz Sebastián, Pepe Calderón, Pepe Sabín, Urbano Pa- rrilla, Rafael Ávila... También nos evoca una realidad tangible de la que nos sentimos orgullosos. Emphasis is placed on critical reading and writing, analysis of art and critical methodology through class discussion, formal presentations, and a substantial research paper. Course Objectives and Description This course will introduce students to advanced critical methods of art history through an extensive examination of Leonardo da Vinci. Students will be introduced to the artist, and consider current debates, scholarly issues, and even the effect of the artist on popular culture. Students will fully engage with an extensive bibliography, intensive critical debates, and critical issues of iconography, connoisseurship, patronage, interpretation, and the contextualization of works of art. A crucial aspect of the course is to learn how art historians select objects and subjects for research, how they investigate works of art, and how they employ different methodologies in the course of critical analysis.
